Christa POV
The wolves surrounding us are slowly coming in closer and closer to us. Simon steps back towards me and starts circling me, trying to keep his eyes on them and keep them from getting too close to me. We’re at a standoff! After a few moments, one wolf gets brave and takes a step closer to me. Simon sees him from the corner of his eyes, and he lunges towards snapping his powerful jaws at the wolf growling and snarling at him. Simon’s so viscous that he has drool coming out of his mouth, making him look feral. I’m shaking hard not knowing what to do. I’m frozen in fear. I couldn’t force my legs to move if I wanted to.
I understand now why he was scared of me meeting his wolf and why others are so fearful of Simon. But even while being surrounded, Simon is doing everything in his power to protect me. I know he would never hurt me.
Simon tucks me under his belly and slowly moves me backward with him. I understand what he’s trying to do. He's trying to move us so that the tree is behind me instead of the wolves, and he can guard better in front of me without having to worry about what’s behind us. Once I am standing in front of the large tree, Simon stands guarding, snapping at any wolf that dares get too close. All of a sudden, an ear-piercing howl sounds out. Right as the howl sounds, the wolves are surrounding us pounce on Simon.
At this point, all I see are teeth and fur flying around in a blur. I can’t tell who is who anymore! I can hear their teeth snapping, similar to what a giant tree breaking apart before it falls would sound like, and I hear snarling and growls all around me. All I can do is hide against the tree and make myself as small as I can. I try to find Simon in all the commotion. Finally, I see him surrounded, one by one, the smaller wolves are biting at his neck, legs, tail, anywhere they can get to without getting into his grasp. I see one wolf jump up on his back and bite at him, he gives a loud yelp, but then he swings around and grabs the wolf by the neck and rips its throat out as he tosses it off him. As I am watching Simon fight for us, I can hear wolves paws running against the ground like a stampede, coming in closer and closer until all of a sudden, I hear more howls. I look over and see more wolves coming in fast. I look over to Simon, scared for him. There’s no way he can fight off all of these wolves! They're going to kill him.
One of the wolves behind him comes in to blindside him while he fights off another wolf. I try to scream, “watch out,” but nothing comes out. I flinch, expecting the wolf to take out Simon, but instead, another wolf bulldozes into it, hitting it so hard I can hear every single one of its bones break! As soon as it hits the ground, it just lays there still, its tongue hanging out from the side of its mouth, panting until it stops breathing altogether, then it slowly turns into a man. I can’t help but start to cry at that point. I don’t know if it’s shock or the fact I’ve never seen anyone die before; my whole body shakes as I sob. Then a hand reaches for me touching my arm making me jump and scream out.
“Sshh, it’s me, Christa!”
“Amanda! You’re here!” I say as I throw my arms around her neck.
“Sshh, I’m going to get you out of here, ok!” She says in a loud whisper, looking into my wide-open eyes, making sure I’m hearing and understanding her. All I can do is nod my head.
“I need you to listen closely! I’m going to turn into my wolf, and when she lowers herself to the ground, I want you to jump on her back and hold on really tight! You understand?” I nod again but hesitate.
“What about Eli?”
“He’ll be ok. He can take care of himself, ok. We need to go now!” Becca let’s go of me and immediately shifts into her wolf.
She kneels low like she said she would; I get onto her back, I grab the fur around her neck and squeeze tight. Her wolf looks back at me, and I can see my terrified reflection in her wolf's eyes. She lets out a huff of reassurance, I assume, and takes off. I look behind me at the c*****e. I see Simon take out two wolves at the same time, and all I can think about at that moment is how powerful and beautiful he is and how much I love him. I look forward and see the scenery around us, passing by in a blur. I squeeze her fur as tight as I can in my fists with my knuckles turning white and clamp my legs around her body, feeling like I could fall off of her at any moment from how fast she was running. As Amanda’s wolf is running, I focus on the sounds of her huffs, pants, the sounds of her paws pounding against the dirt. I see that we’re close to safety when all of a sudden I find myself in the air weightless. It all happened so fast but it feels like I’m suspended in mid air for a few minutes before I feel hit the ground, and everything after that goes black.

Everything had been going well with Simon and Christa. I was pleased with how gentle Simon was being until these mutts came in and ruined our day. When we smelled the rogues coming in, Simon went into defense. And I could hear him whimper when he realized that our mate was scared of us. But he couldn’t let himself worry too long because our mate was in danger, and we needed to protect her at all cost. As we noticed that we were being surrounded, we let out a howl to notify my pack of our position.
“Seth, Ethan, I’m with Christa. We’re surrounded by rogues. Gather as many warriors as possible and get out here!”
“Got it, Alpha. On our way.!” Ethan and Seth respond.
“Amanda I need you to come as fast as you can and get Christa out of here to safety!”
“On my way, Alpha!”
All we could do at this point was to keep Christa safe until the Cavalry arrived. As the wolves came at us, we did our best to keep our eye on her and make sure none of them got close. Where did these fuckers come from? How did they get into my territory without anyone noticing? Just the thought that they were this close to our mate pissed us off. It made Simon even more aggressive and vicious than I’ve ever seen him before. He wasn’t going to let anyone lay a hand on her and it made me so proud. As we were fending off the wolves, we felt relief when our pack howled and came hurtling toward us, ready to protect their Luna.
We took a second to check on our mate to make sure she was ok and our heart sank when we saw the terrified look on her face. It’s a look that will be etched in our memory for a long time. I see my sister come up on her and grab her arm, startling her. My sister is whispering something to her when I see her nod and look over to me once more. When I see her climb on Amanda’s back, we feel like we can breathe again. As my sister takes off with our mate we do our best to stick close behind trying to fend off the rogues as we do. We try not to lose sight of Christa. As we run to keep up with Amanda it seems more rogues are coming at us. We see Amanda getting close to home when a giant wolf with red eyes comes out of thin air straight into my sister, pummeling her to the ground in a hard tackle. She slides to the ground with a loud yelp and whimpers as she does her best to get back up. We see our mate hit the ground hard next to her, but she doesn’t move afterward. Simon begins ripping and slashing through the rogues taking his claws and simply slashed straight into their intestines, letting them fall out into the ground before quickly moving on to the next wolf in our way in order to get to Christa. Still, even with our size, there are too many, and they are slowing us down too much. The wolf with red eyes looks over at us, showing his teeth before he takes Christa and disappears. Along with the big wolf with the red eyes, all the rogues take off with my pack chasing after them. We go to where we had last seen Christa and Simon let out a despairing howl. One that I have never known before. For hours and hours, we searched in and out of the territory. The spot where she had fallen was the last place her scent was. She was gone. That son of a b***h had our mate.

I slowly wake up in a room on a bed. I look around my surroundings, and the only thing in here is a bed and a small window. I feel so confused. I try to remember what happened, but my head is killing me, and my entire body is in pain. I slowly remember meeting Eli’s wolf Simon and then being surrounded by rogue wolves. I remember riding on Amanda’s wolf's back. Did we make it back home? Why am I in this room?
“Hello? Is anyone there? Eli?” I yell out.
The door slowly opens and in walks a man I’ve never seen before.
“Sorry, sweetheart, but Eli’s not going to be able to make it.”
“Who-who are you? Where am I?” I stutter.
“Well sweetheart,” he says as he gets closer to me. He stops and inhales deep at my neck. His eyes change to red, and his fangs become elongated, and at the same time, his fingers slowly turn into claws. He takes his sharp claws and slowly runs them along my cheek to my jawline to my collarbone, then he licks my face and says, “I’m your worst nightmare come true!” He says and then lets out a dark sardonic laugh that sent chills through my spine. I lay there trembling and shaking my head. No, please! This can’t be happening!
