Chapter 20

2344 Words
Christa POV I wake up in a dark room with nothing around me. There are no walls, no furniture, there isn’t anything. Where am I? I call out. ”Hello? Is anyone there?” I am met with nothing but the echo of my voice. I try to move around, but the space I am in seems endless. I don't seem to be getting anywhere no matter what I do. I am not sure how long I walk around for, but I begin to get tired, so I sit down. I cry out again. “Please… is anyone there? I need help…” Once again, I am met with silence. I lay down for a moment to rest my eyes for what seemed like only a moment. When I open them, I see a door with white light shining around the edges. I walk towards the door and open the knob but it won’t open. I pull harder, but it won’t budge. “Hey, I’m here! Let me out!” I bang on the door, hoping someone would hear me. For the first time I have been in this place, I hear something. It’s not a voice but a movement. I call out to it. “Hello, who are you?” Once again silence. “Can you tell me where I am?” This time I hear a growl. I gasp, putting my back against the door. “I promise… I mean, you no harm. It’s just… I don’t know where I am or how I got here?” The growl suddenly disappears, and I am once again met with silence. I can feel myself getting frustrated. I have no clue what to do to get out of here! I yell out, even though I’m scared of whatever it was I heard, it has to be better than being here by myself in this… in this netherworld or something. “Hey, come back! I need help!” I hear the click-clack of claws on the ground from far away. I feel like I am being watched. It makes me nervous that I can hear whatever it is, but I can’t see it. “Hello, please… answer me! Show yourself!” As soon as I called out to show itself, I saw a pair of silver eyes slowly coming from out of the darkness. It’s the only thing I can see. I silently watch the creature as it does the same to me. It watches and circles me. Its eyes are so beautiful and so powerful it has me almost hypnotized. As it circles me, it slowly comes closer and closer. As it gets closer the size of it I can tell is going to be enormous. Slowly I begin to see a big head. I can see that it’s a wolf now. I immediately tense up. “I-It’s ok… I-I’m not here to hurt you.” I say to it. I am trying to keep myself calm. If I freak out then I might give it cause to attack me. I slowly put my hands up in surrender to show I mean it no harm. It slowly comes out of darkness, and I can see it more and more. It’s fur is a huge contrast from its eyes. While the eyes give off a more cool, powerful vibe, the fur is fire and fury. Its coat is a beautiful golden color, and when any light hits it, it gleams and sparkles, and yet in some parts, it’s also silver giving it a magnificent fire and ice tone. It’s the most beautiful wolf I have ever seen. It gradually gets closer to me, it’s nose drawing near my hands, and I gently reach out for it. The wolf draws back with a growl, but for some reason, it doesn’t scare me. In fact, I feel drawn to it. I can also feel like it’s drawn to me. Finally, after slowly circling each other I reach out and touch the wolf's nose and I receive a huge electric shock that knocks me back. When I open my eyes, I am laying on my back, and the giant wolf is standing over me, looking me straight in the eyes. What was that? All of a sudden, I can hear a voice. “Hello!” A female voice calls out. “Uh, what… who’s talking to me?” The wolf sits down and tilts its head at me as I slowly try and sit up from the ground. “What do you mean? I’m talking to you!” “What? But I can’t talk to wolves!” “No, but you can talk to me!” “I don’t understand? How?” “Because… I am your wolf.” “WHAT? I mean… that can’t be. I’m human.” She laughs. “You were never human, Christa.” “What do you mean? If I were a werewolf, my brothers and others would have sensed it.” Confused, I drew my eyebrows down and frowned, “And I would have turned at 18, but I didn’t.” “My dear Christa, there is so much you don’t know about yourself. You are more special than you think.” “How? What do you mean?” “In due time. I’m sorry you had to find out like this. You were never supposed to go this long without knowing who you are. After your parents died in the car crash, everything that was supposed to happen, well… didn’t. Your parents were supposed to reveal to you your true self and help you change, but after they died, they took their secrets with them.” She gets up and moves to sit directly in front of me, “So Christa, you are not a human and not quite a wolf either. You are something very special and sit somewhere in between.” “Well then, why am I sick with all of these health issues, and why don’t I heal normally?” “Because your body has been in a constant fight on what it is. It’s been fighting between flesh and magic, and unfortunately, it’s slowly killing you. Christa, you need to change soon or you are going to die. We are going to die.” **Eli** I get back to Christa as soon as I possibly can. When I see the doctor leaving her room, I stop him. “How is she doing? Any changes?” He sadly shakes his head, “What’s wrong?” “It seems as though her body is slowly shutting down.” I shake my head in denial. ”Isn’t there anything else you can do?” He shakes his head. ”I’ve done everything I can possibly do.” He says as he places his hand on my shoulder with his head down and walks away. No… no, that can’t be it. “Dr. Wilson... I’ve been thinking about my healing capabilities.” Dr. Wilson looks at me, paying close attention to what I have to say, “What if we give her some of my blood to help her body heal on its own?” He shakes his head. “Her body is in a delicate state right now. If we put your blood in her and her body rejects, it could be devastating to her and kill her within seconds.” “She’s dying anyway, and we’ve tried everything up until this point, and I’ve been saving this for last! I need to do everything in power to save her! Please… Dr. Wilson, at least try.” He nods his head. “First, you need to talk to Pete. Him being her brother, he should have a say in this too.” I nod my head. “I’ll talk to him. I’ll let you know ASAP.” “See to it. She doesn’t have much time left.” He says before he walks away. I blew out my breath that I wasn’t even aware I was holding and walked into Christa’s room. She looked so peaceful and still. The only chaos is the wires, and vents, and machines beeping and pumping around her. I walk over to her bedside and take her hand and kiss her knuckles. I reach over and caress her beautiful brown hair. ”Hey sweetheart, I’m going to do everything I can to bring you back to me! I promise.” I mind link Pete to meet me in Christa’s hospital room. Shortly after, he arrives. ”What’s the news?” He asks as soon as he walks in. ”Pete, it's not looking good.” He stops and goes completely rigid. ”What do you mean?” ”Dr. Wilson said her body is slowly shutting down.” ”Well, isn’t there something he can do?” ”No, but there is something I can do.” Pete’s eyebrows raise in surprise. ”What do you mean? ”We can give her some of my blood to help her body heal.” He thinks about what I’m saying, shaking his head. ”Will that actually work?” ”There is a risk her body rejects it. If that happens, she's dead, but she's dead anyway if we don't try. At least this way we’re giving her a chance to survive. So… what do you say?” He walks over to Christa and kisses her on her forehead, and then takes her hand. ”I told my parents I would do everything in my power to protect her. So if this is her only chance then we have to do it.” I breathed out a sigh of relief when Pete agreed to give Christa some of my blood. I immediately mind link the pack doctor and tell him it's a go. ~ ~ ~ A couple of hours later, we have everything we need set up. Dr. Wilson begins pumping my blood into Christa while Pete and I sit there with bated breath holding her hands, praying to the moon goddess that she’ll pull through. Minutes go by and nothing happens, then hours. **Christa** I sit there with my wolf thinking about what she has told me. ”We’re going to die?” She nods her head solemnly. ”Yes, but only if you don't turn. Christa, your human body, can’t take the onslaught of magic it's been dealing with.” ”But how do I turn?” ”You have to fully mate with Eli. Once you fully mate and mark each other, your change will begin.” All of a sudden, the door begins to open. ”It’s time.” ”Will I be able to talk to you after this?” ”Not right away. Once you begin your transition I’ll be right there with you.” I begin walking to the door, and before I walk through, I turn around. ”Wait! I didn't get your name?” ”My name is Amya.” ”It’s nice to finally meet you, Amya.” I smile at her. I turn back towards the door and walk through it towards the bright light. **Eli** It's been hours since giving Christa my blood, and nothing has changed. I’m worried that it won’t have any effect on her. After hours of sitting next to her waiting, I see her finger twitch; then her eyelids begin twitching; she lets out a quiet little moan that sounds like music to my ears. I call out to Pete. ”Look, I think she's waking up!” Pete quickly walks back to the bed and takes her other hand.” ”Christa, can you hear me?” I quietly say to her. ”Mmmmm.” ”Christa, wake up, sweetheart.” I calmly say to her while I smooth her hair away from her face. Her eyes slowly begin to open. At first, she just stares up at the ceiling. Then she looks over towards Pete and smiles. ”Hey big bro, what are you doing here?” She asks with her brows furrowed and frowns. ”I’ve been by your side waiting for you to wake up!” He says smiling at her. He looks over to me, and she sees she follows his eyesight over to me. ”Hey you!” She says, with the most adorable smile I’ve ever seen. ”Hey sweetheart! I’ve missed you so much.” She frowns at that. ”You have? Why? Wait…” She looks around as if just now noticing where she is at. ”Where am I? And why do I feel like I've been hit by a bus?” I chuckle at that because it's not far from what actually happened. ”Sweetheart, you were hit by an SUV while you were on your way to the mall.” ”I was?” I simply nod my head, unable to speak for fear of my voice cracking in emotion. I still remember that night like it was yesterday, and I've had nightmares ever since. I get flashes of her blood dripping down her cracked skull, the metal sticking out of her stomach, and her legs being crushed by the glove box compartment, and the door being smashed into her side. I can still smell the metallic of her blood mixed in the gasoline and burning rubber. ”Eli?” I quickly snap out of my flashback when I hear the sound of her voice. ”Yes, you were.” ”How bad was it?” ”Sweetheart, we didn't think you were going to make it.” ”Oh.” Is the only thing she says. ”I’m really thirsty. Can I have some water?” ”Of course.” Pete grabs her glass of water and opens a straw and slides it into the water, then hands it to me. I take the straw and gently put it to her mouth to drink. After she gets enough water, she closes her eyes and begins to speak again. ”How long have I been out?” She says as she reopens her eyes to look at me. ”About a week.” ”WHAT? A week!” She yells out and attempts to get out of bed. ”Shhh, it's ok, honey.” I say quickly while gently pushing her back onto her back. ”W-Why can’t I move m-my legs?” Pete jumps in, ”Christa, ” She looks over at Pete, ”I really hate to tell you this, but when the accident happened, it fractured several parts of your spine. When that happened it paralyzed you.” Christa lays there in complete silence. Her eyes unblinking, she stares at the wall. ”I-I-I’m paralyzed?” Her face is in complete shock. I give a gentle squeeze to her hand, and she turns her attention back on me. ”It’s going to be ok, sweetheart. I promise.” She only nods her head with a single tear falling down her cheek. ”I know this is a lot to take in, but we're going to get through this together.” She looks me dead in the eye and says, ”Eli, I need you to change me.” At that, you could hear a pin drop from a mile away. *Name pronunciation: Amya (Uh-my-ya).
