42 We threaded our way carefully through the dense undergrowth. Without the aid of night-vision equipment we relied more on touch than sight. I just hoped that none of the overhanging vines I was grasping turned out to be a snake instead. My watch was missing from my left wrist although none of the guards I’d killed had it in their possession. I therefore had no idea what time it was, although I guessed it must have been somewhere around three in the morning. We needed to put as much distance between the road and ourselves by daylight. Once it was light our pursuers would have no problem following our tracks. The noise emanating from the surrounding jungle was incredibly loud as we pressed on relentlessly. I led the way, grasping Danni’s hand as I forced my way through the thick bush. O
