35 When we returned to Gulu the following day we were quickly brought back to reality. The lead Buffel on that days convoy had tripped a huge anti-tank mine. The driver was badly injured and was currently fighting for his life at the local hospital. Unlike the other two armored vehicles, the Buffel drivers sat in a separate section of the vehicle that was more susceptible to mine damage. We immediately rushed over to the hospital. After a while one of our doctors emerged from the operating theatre.
