~Jamorea~
I wanted to get some fresh air. I could still feel the pull to Dominic, and his scent was thick in the apartment. I couldn’t breathe properly, and I could barely breathe. I figured that a walk outside would be helpful, and it would keep Brackston off my back.
I didn’t intend to run into anyone, and I wasn’t planning to talk to anyone. Most people who see me usually just nod at me, but give me a wide berth. I never thought that I’d walk outside and encounter what was just in front of me. If I had imagined it, I would have probably stayed inside.
My chest is tight, and my breath is barely coming out. My hands are clenched at my sides, and I don’t like this feeling. You’re jealous.
I’m not, Mona. I don’t care.
Why are you lying?
I’m standing behind a tree, and I want to rip it out of the ground. I watched the entire thing, and I hate that I feel how I feel. I watched that little blonde girl get close to my mate. I know she wants him, I can tell by her body language. She wants him, and she isn’t making it a secret. If you are so worried about her, claim our mate.
Who says I’m worried about her?
Okay, Jamorea. Keep lying to yourself if you want to. She puts a block up between us, and I let out a breath.
Okay, so I don’t like that this little girl has an agenda with my mate. I can’t say anything about it, though. For all I know, that’s his girlfriend or something. This is his home pack, and he barely met me. Whatever he had going on before me is really none of my business. My being here doesn’t mean he has to stop living his life like he was before. The mate bond doesn’t delete a person’s choice.
I step away from the tree and take deep breaths. I slowly make my way toward the packhouse, hating how I’m feeling. My arm is grabbed, and my body is turned around. I’m face-to-face with the spy that Brackston sent here. “It’s good to see you finally out and about. Though I would love to know how you made it out of the cells.” I keep my face neutral and look around to see that we are alone outside.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t do that. Don’t try to treat me like I’m stupid.” She steps closer to me, and I fight the urge to step back. “I know you were taken to the cells, and I told Brackston as much. I just don’t know how you got released. Did you make a deal? Did you rat him out?” It’s vital that I give the same, dry story that I gave Brackston. I can’t let her think that there’s any truth to her words.
“I’m going to tell you just like I told Brackston. I was not taken to the cells. There would be no reason for me to be taken to the cells.” I move a bit closer to her and drop my voice. “I was wondering where he got such a crazy story and now I know. I would appreciate it if you would accurate communicate with him if you were going to be the eyes here.” She searches my face, but I keep all emotion locked up.
“I’m watching you. I know you’re lying and I will find out the truth.” I say nothing in response. She looks at me a bit longer before turning and walking away. I take a few breaths and continue to the packhouse.
I know they have eyes on her, so I don’t need to worry. I just hope they can stop her before she does anything serious. No matter what’s going on here, I have my brother to think about. I need him to stay safe while I figure out this mess.
I have no destination in mind when I reach the packhouse. I walk through it without really looking at where I’m going. My mind is full of thoughts regarding my brother and my own safety.
My feet finally stop moving, and I’m broken out of my thoughts. I look around and notice that I’m in a hallway, standing in front of an open door. “Are you planning to come in or stay out there?” His voice washes over me, and goosebumps erupt all over my arms. How the hell did I make it here?
We needed to see mate, so I brought us here. Go inside already. I let out a quiet sigh, knowing that I have no other choice but to walk inside.
I slowly step into the room, letting it wash over me. This must be Dominic’s office. It’s pretty spacious, though not as big as the Alpha’s office.
The back wall is made of glass and has a view of the treeline. The left side of the room is covered in built-in bookshelves. There are books, pictures, and knick-knacks all over the shelves. The right side of the room has a big television mounted on the wall. There’s a black leather couch in front of it and a glass coffee table in front of that.
Dominic’s desk is in the middle of the room, in front of the big window. It’s a black desk with a big leather chair. Dominic is seated at his desk, looking at me. He motions me over and gestures to the smaller leather chairs in front of his desk. “I’m surprised that you’re here, mate. Have a seat and we can get to know each other better.”
I was ready to walk away. I had a little speech prepared, which would have gotten me out of this with the minimal amount of embarrassment. I planned to walk away and go upstairs graciously. Instead, my body moves forward without my permission. I move forward until I’m in front of the chairs, and my body slides into one. Traitor! Mona giggles in my mind.
You’ll thank me later. Mona pushes me forward, putting a block up. Now I’m stuck in this room with my fated mate in front of me, and I have no idea what to do from here.
