I throw another punch at the warrior in front of me. He absorbs the hit, but it’s not even slightly graceful. I motion for him to come at me again, but he looks up from the ground with pain in his eyes. I guess I broke him.
I move my head to the side, signaling that he needs to remove himself. This is how it’s been. I’ve been feeling anxious and angry. I’ve come to the training grounds to try to expel this energy, and there’s no one who can keep up with me.
I feel unfulfilled, and it bothers me to no end. I know what I want, but I can’t have it right now. If I want my big plan realized, I need to see this through piece by piece. I’ve never been known as a patient man, and that hasn’t changed.
I sigh and walk over to my water bottle. I pour water over my head before taking a big drink from the bottle. A throat clears behind me, and irritation immediately sets in. “Uh, sir?”
“What?”
“You have a phone call.” I turn and snatch my phone out of Teddy’s hand and step to the side.
“Speak.” As I listen to the caller, my anger climbs. My hands clench, and I hear the crack of glass and plastic. The call disconnects, and I pull the damaged phone from my hand and toss it at Teddy. “Get a car ready. I will be leaving shortly.” I finish the rest of the water and toss the bottle away. “I need to go to a human town.”

I’m still kicking myself for not saying no to him. Yes, I want to spend time with my fated mate, and I was excited that he asked me out. Regardless, I should have said no. I should have told him that I didn’t want to spend this one-on-one time with him.
I smooth my hands over the skirt of my dress as I look at myself in the mirror. I guess I look okay, but I really don’t know. I swear it’s been so long since I’ve dressed properly. That’s usually the last thing you worry about when you are trying to survive.
My black, pleated skirt stops mid-thigh. I paired it with a red corset top. It’s a bit much for me, but Luna Katarina insisted. She gave me some cute black ankle boots and a black leather jacket. I’m not sure that I’ve ever dressed like this, but I can’t say that I don’t like it.
I decided against any makeup, mostly because I never really learned how to put it on. I just have some lip gloss in my jacket pocket. There’s no purse because I have nothing to my name. I sigh and shake my head, not wanting to dwell on things that I can’t change.
There’s a light knock on the door, which immediately makes butterflies erupt in my stomach. His scent is already wrapping around me, and I don’t even have the door open. If it’s like this now, it’s not going to get any better throughout this date.
I try to take a deep breath before opening the door. I’m not sure why I bothered because the moment my eyes land on him, I swear I’m suffocating. My grip on the door tightens as I try to keep my composure. Mate is yummy, isn’t he?
Not now, Mona.
Yes… yes now. Now and later. I quickly block her and loosen my grip.
“You are breathtaking.” His velvet voice wraps around me and damn near short-circuits my mind.
Dominic is wearing a white, button-up shirt with the first few buttons undone. The sleeves are rolled up to his elbows. The shirt is see-through when it catches the light a certain way, and the outlines of his tattoos show through. His blue jeans wrap around his muscles, making it a snug fit. “Jamorea?” My eyes jump up, and I hate that they did. There’s a smug look on his face as if he knows exactly what I was just doing. “Are you okay?” My mouth is dry, but I try to swallow and lubricate my throat.
“I… I…” Thankfully, Dominic takes mercy on me.
“Let’s go, love. We have a date to get to.” He holds his arm out, and I slowly take it. “You are going to enjoy tonight.”
Don’t ask what type of car we hop into because I know nothing about cars. All I know is that Dominic is driving and the ride is smooth. We are quiet in the car, but it isn’t uncomfortable. I mean, I’m uncomfortable because I feel like I should be saying something, but I have no idea what that should be.
We are on the road for a while, and the scenery goes past without me noticing anything in particular. I can’t remember when I’ve ever been this nervous, and I can’t even tell you why I am. I never should have agreed to this outing, but how could I say no?
The car pulls up in front of a building, and my car door is opened. This is fancy with their valet and whatnot. Definitely not something I’ve ever experienced before. By the time I’m helped out of the car, Dominic is on the sidewalk, waiting for me. He holds his hand out, and I cautiously take it.
He leads us into the restaurant. It’s your typical, upscale environment, I guess. There are lights all over that emit a low brightness. It contributes to a serene mood. Everything is gold and red, from the napkins and tablecloths to the gold utensils on the table. This is the type of place that feels expensive, and I feel out of place.
We are seated toward the back, in a booth. Menus are placed in front of us, and water is poured. I pick up the menu to look it over, but really I’m trying to distract myself. I don’t know what to do right now, and I’m super nervous.
I look up from the menu, and Dominic is looking at me. My mouth immediately goes dry, so I pick up the water and drink a good portion of it. Dominic’s eyes never leave me, and I can feel his gaze all over. “You’ve been quiet the entire ride. What’s going on in that head of yours?” I put my glass down, mostly to try to buy time. I slowly look up at him, ready to speak when my eyes stray. My voice disappears, and my heart sticks in my throat.
“I… I need to pee.” I scramble to my feet and hurry down to the restroom, praying that I’m simply losing my mind.
