Back to Maxim's Trap

Yura's POV My steps came to a halt as the border gates of Agrari appeared in the distance. I had only just arrived in Agrari's territory when a battle broke out over me. Maxim had never stopped hunting me down, even after all these years. In the end, Robert's pack won the battle, and I had no choice but to go with them. I couldn't let Robert's entire pack become victims just because I wanted to stay by his side. Legally, I was still Maxim's Luna. "I'll be fine," I whispered softly, though I wasn't even sure myself. Before I could take another step, the sound of marching footsteps shattered the silence of the forest. Crash! A formation of werewolf knights surrounded me from every direction. My chest tightened the moment I saw the man standing at the center of them. Maxim. The man who had once been my entire world. The Alpha who had destroyed my life. His blue eyes were still the same—cold and impossible to read. "You've kept me searching for you for far too long, Luna." I met his gaze without fear. "I'm not your Luna anymore." His jaw tightened. "You are still the rightful Luna. My wife." I slowly shook my head. "Our relationship ended the moment you chose Ellena." For a brief moment, no one spoke. Then Maxim stepped closer. "Come with me." "No." I struggled and took a step back. "I'm never going back to that filthy place!" His gaze turned even colder. "You call yourself an Alpha!" I shouted. "Yet you slept with that low-born rogue she-wolf!" "Then..." He raised one hand. Dozens of soldiers immediately stepped aside, revealing a sight that made my blood run cold. "Robert..." My body froze. Robert was kneeling on the ground, both of his hands bound by sacred silver chains. Dozens of Alphas surrounded him. His body was covered in wounds, yet he still struggled to rise. "Yura!" His roar echoed across the valley. The strongest Alpha alive had been brought down by Maxim. Tears streamed down my face instantly. "Robert!" I ran toward him, but Maxim caught my wrist before I could reach him. "Let me go!" I struggled to break free, but his grip was too strong. "Don't go near him," Maxim whispered into my ear. Helplessly, I watched Robert being tortured. But another thought filled my mind. Why wasn't Robert fighting back? I refused to believe he had truly lost his strength. "Maxim..." I shoved him aside and tried to run toward Robert again. Maxim dragged me back and threw me to the ground right in front of Robert. Robert lowered his voice. "For James... I won't fight them. James is still on the battlefield. I want them to believe they've completely destroyed my pack." Hearing those words, my eyes widened. I froze. The question that had haunted me was finally answered. Robert had endured all of this to protect our son. James Blackwood. My second son. The child Robert and I shared. Robert continued struggling to break the silver chains binding him, even as blood flowed from both of his hands. "Go with him," he ordered. My chest felt like it was being crushed. I couldn't bear to see him like this. "No..." I whispered. Maxim stared at me without blinking. I stood there, looking at the husband I had believed to be dead for many years. "The choice is yours," he threatened. I closed my eyes. If I refused, I would ruin Robert's plan. His entire pack would become victims as well. Taking a deep breath, I looked back at Maxim. "...Fine." The surroundings fell silent. "But release Robert." Maxim let out a quiet hiss before ordering his servants to remove Robert's restraints. Robert collapsed onto the ground, gravely wounded. They simply abandoned him there. --- As dusk approached, the royal carriage entered the courtyard of the Blue-Eyed White Wolf Castle. The place I had once called home. Now, it felt like a prison waiting to swallow me. The servants knelt the moment I stepped down from the carriage. "Welcome home, Luna." I didn't answer. I walked into the grand hall, only to stop when I saw Ellena. At the top of the staircase stood a woman in an elegant white gown. "You shameless b***h," I muttered. The adopted sister I had raised as my own. The woman who had destroyed my marriage. She looked down at me with arrogant eyes. "Sister Yura..." A faint smile curved across her lips. "My beloved sister has finally come home." I stared at her expressionlessly. "Don't call me your sister. You're nothing but a rogue wolf I rescued from that filthy place." Ellena's expression darkened immediately. "Hah... Your words hurt me so much," she mocked softly. I laughed. "So this is how shameless you've become?" "Lowly woman." "Yura!" Maxim snapped. "Watch your tongue! You're a traitor too. You abandoned your husband and ran away with another man." I glanced at him. Slap! My palm struck his cheek with all my strength. The entire hall fell silent. I looked him straight in the eyes. "You dare blame me?" "As if I'm the one who's guilty?" "I didn't come back to become your perfect Luna." "I came back because this is where I need to be." --- I understood Maxim all too well. He was trying to take me back. I knew he only wanted to turn me into a weakness he could use whenever he pleased. But I was no longer the Luna he could manipulate. I didn't return to this castle for him. I came back to save Robert. And for my son, who still didn't know who he truly was. Bryan. My son. I slowly closed my eyes. Bryan... where are you? Have you found Agrari? Did you survive the Blood Moon that night, my son? At first, I thought he had returned here. But even Maxim couldn't sense the scent of his own flesh and blood. Still, my instincts told me otherwise. I only had to wait. The Moon Goddess never intertwined two destinies without reason. Bryan had inherited the blood of the White Wolf. Sooner or later... His own destiny would lead him home. Back to Agrari. Maxim... you don't even know that you have a son who inherited your blood. I looked up at the sky, now painted with the colors of twilight. "Moon Goddess..." "If this is truly the destiny You have written..." "Please protect my son." "Let him find his way back to me safely." One of the reasons I returned to Maxim's castle was to wait for Bryan. I knew he would come here on his own. This was the place I had always told him about. The place where he truly belonged. The sound of bells echoed throughout the castle. Servants, knights, and the elders of the pack stood in neat rows along the grand staircase, all eyes fixed on me. I lifted my chin, refusing to let my dignity crumble despite the weight pressing against my heart. Maxim walked several steps ahead of me toward the castle's main balcony. He raised one hand, signaling for silence. "Everyone..." The Supreme Alpha's voice echoed across the courtyard. "Today, Luna Yura has returned to the castle." A few soldiers cheered quietly. Then Maxim raised his hand again. "But..." His voice turned cold. "Yura has not returned as a free Luna." My chest tightened. "She has returned as a Luna serving her punishment." Silence fell instantly. "What does he mean...?" someone whispered. Maxim swept his gaze across the crowd. "As punishment for abandoning her mate and this castle for many years, Yura will remain inside this castle." "And she will be confined to her chambers." His piercing gaze locked onto mine. "She is forbidden to leave this castle until the Red Moon Eclipse." "That restriction will remain until the Moon Goddess herself severs our mate bond." Whispers spread throughout the grand hall. None of the pack members dared question their Alpha's decision. I clenched my fists. How cunning... He deliberately used the Moon Goddess' sacred mate bond as an excuse so that no one would dare oppose him. Among werewolves, decisions involving the sacred mate bond were untouchable. Maxim turned to face me. "Do you object?" I met his gaze. "I agree... as long as you remember my condition." Maxim let out a slow sigh. "To spare Robert's pack... and make peace with your precious lover?" I remained silent. "I'll keep my promise." Relief washed over me. Even if I had to live as Maxim's prisoner... At least Robert and my son, James, would have time to rebuild their shattered pack. Even if I had to return to the place that had once broken my heart... I would endure.
