Two Young Men

POV Bryan Oxford Lyra led me far beyond the hills. After traveling for nearly an hour, a surprisingly modern civilization came into view. Beautiful castles stood proudly across the landscape. Down there, the werewolves seemed to live peacefully. "Welcome to Agrari." I glanced at Lyra. She plucked a dark-colored fruit from a tree branch, squeezed a drop of its ink-like juice into her eyes, and I watched as her blue irises gradually turned brown. "You... what did you do to your eyes?" She handed me the same twig. "Use it. Do you know who rules Agrari now? The reigning Alpha is a blue-eyed white wolf. He's a ruthless Alpha with countless enemies. If the brown-eyed packs see your blue eyes, they'll attack you immediately." I let out a slow breath. "Can I really fight them?" I wasn't afraid. I just wasn't confident in my own strength yet. Without hesitation, I took the twig and let a few drops of the liquid fall into my eyes. Lyra smiled as my blue irises disappeared beneath a layer of brown. "Come on. I'll show you around Agrari." This place was incredible. It looked like a modern city. No one would ever imagine that it was actually a civilization built by werewolves. Even the human world acknowledged Agrari's existence, but only a handful of people knew its true nature. We walked calmly through the crowded streets. Instead of taking me to the busiest part of the city, Lyra led me to a district beside the marketplace. I noticed the largest pharmacy was packed with injured warriors waiting in line to receive treatment. Then, amidst the crowd, I saw a man standing beside his son. A man I had last seen ten years ago. The man I once called... Father. He was carefully tending to the wounded. My footsteps came to a halt. I stared at him for a long moment before Lyra's voice pulled me back to reality. "What is it? You've been staring at them for quite a while." I snapped out of my thoughts and quickly changed the subject. "I'm just surprised that pharmacy is so crowded," I lied. I didn't want them to realize I was here. "A few days ago, two packs clashed because Alpha Maxim's Luna returned. They fought over the Luna and their territory. Unfortunately, Alpha Robert's pack lost, and many of them were injured." "They fought over their Luna?" I whispered to myself. So Mother really had returned here... Maxim had found her and begun hunting her once again. Now I finally understood why she had insisted on raising me in the human world. She had been running from her own mate. And... she had another son as well. I watched as James, Robert's son, walked toward us. There was no mistake. The mark on his forehead. I had seen that same birthmark when Mother gave birth to my little brother—the son she had with the brown-eyed man. "Are you two new here?" Lyra immediately pulled me behind her. "My apologies, Young Master. My friend and I are only sightseeing. We're from a small pack near the forest's edge. Please forgive us. We didn't know members of Alpha Robert's pack would be here." "You two... white-furred wolves? Are you mixed-blood werewolves?" I glanced at Lyra. Even she looked nervous. "Y-Yes... you're right. We're just ordinary mixed-blood wolves," Lyra answered uneasily. James shifted his gaze toward me. He studied me carefully. I returned his stare without the slightest fear. I knew he was my younger brother. "You... your aura doesn't feel like that of an ordinary wolf." Lyra immediately grabbed my arm. "That's only your imagination, Young Master. We should be going now. Until we meet again." She hurriedly pulled me away from James. I looked back. The day Robert took him away from me and separated us forever... I had been devastated. And now, after meeting him again, I still couldn't embrace him. From a distance, I looked at Robert. His eyes locked onto mine. I wasn't sure whether he had recognized me or not. He had seen me during my teenage years before. Mother had surely contacted him as well when I disappeared back then. Lyra tugged me forward, urging me to leave. But before we could go any farther, our steps came to an abrupt halt. Several white-wolf warriors suddenly stormed into the city. Panic erupted. Everyone fled Everyone except Robert and James. Screams echoed throughout the entire market district. In an instant, the place that had been filled with laughter turned into a sea of panic. Merchants abandoned their stalls. Children ran through the streets in tears. The metallic scent of blood quickly filled the air. Dozens of warriors in white cloaks suddenly appeared on the rooftops. "Find James!" the commander shouted from the royal carriage. "Don't let Robert's bastard son escape!" "Take him to the castle!" My chest tightened. So... they really had come for James. I turned toward Robert. Without hesitation, he drew his sword and stepped in front of his son. "All warriors! Protect the civilians!" The clash of steel instantly filled the streets. James drew his own sword. "Father!" He dashed straight into the battlefield. "No!" Robert roared. "They're after you!" More than a dozen warriors immediately surrounded James. "Surrender!" "By Alpha Maxim's order, you are to be taken to the castle as a prisoner." James let out a furious growl. The wolf within him emerged. A gigantic black wolf stood proudly beneath Agrari's dark sky. "I won't go with you!" "Bastard child! Your birth was a mistake!" I froze. Rage surged through me as I heard those words. No matter what... he was still my brother. We were born from the same mother. Their insults pierced my ears like blades. "Robert's bastard! You are ordered to stand before Maxim!" "The son of Maxim's Luna." "Your blood is the reason this war exists." Robert charged at the white wolf warriors, slashing at every enemy in his path. Although he managed to fight them back, their numbers were overwhelming. Eventually, he could no longer break through. "You!" one warrior sneered. "Worry about the handful of wolves you have left! After today, you'll never see your son again!" Robert struggled desperately, but more white wolf warriors restrained him while others subdued James. James fought back with everything he had. His sword deflected several attacks, but there were simply too many enemies. A spear slammed into his shoulder. "Ugh!" He dropped to one knee. Two warriors kicked him hard, sending his sword flying. "Tie him up!" I clenched my fists. The two people I had come to know... had both been brought down before my eyes. My body instinctively moved forward, but Lyra grabbed my arm. "Don't!" I stared at James, who was now being trampled beneath the warriors' boots. "Don't stop me, Lyra! They're not strangers to me!" She looked at me in shock. "What?" "I won't let them take him like this." Without waiting for her reply, I sprinted forward. "Hey!" I leaped high into the air. Bang! My kick smashed into one warrior's face, sending him crashing through the market stall behind him. Every eye immediately turned toward me. "Who is he?" I planted myself in front of James. "Twenty against two? Is that the courage of the White Wolf Pack?" Their commander narrowed his eyes. "Who are you?" "The one who's going to stop you." Three warriors attacked at once. I sidestepped the first strike and drove my elbow into the first warrior's jaw. Spinning on my heel, I slammed my foot into the second warrior's chest. The third tried to stab me from behind. I caught his wrist and hurled him into the ground. As much as possible, I kept the wolf inside me under control. But more and more warriors poured into the battlefield. "A wolfless creature? How are you even in Agrari?" He stared at me carefully. "...Are you a hybrid?" "Capture him too!" Dozens of silver chains flew toward me. I managed to snap several of them apart. But one chain wrapped around my arm. Another coiled around my legs. I crashed to the ground. Before I could free myself, a third chain tightened around my body. "Damn..." I struggled with all my strength. But the chains were forged from pure silver. They drained my strength with every passing second. It felt as though the silver was suppressing the wolf inside me. Beside me, James was struck again until he lost consciousness. I growled. "Don't touch him!" Robert erupted in fury. His Alpha Aura exploded with such force that several warriors were thrown backward. But the enemy numbers kept growing. Even Robert was slowly being surrounded. The White Wolf commander smiled in satisfaction. "The Alpha only ordered us to capture James." His gaze shifted toward me. "But this boy is interesting. He's clearly not an ordinary citizen. You've got quite a lot of nerve. Do you really think you can stand against the Alpha's ruling pack?" I clenched my jaw. He raised his hand. "Take both of them!" I struggled violently, but the silver chains made it impossible to move. James, his face covered in blood, weakly turned toward me. "Why... did you save me?" I simply looked back at him. I couldn't tell him the truth. Not yet. The warriors threw both of us into a prison wagon. The heavy iron door slammed shut behind us. Through the narrow bars, I could still see Robert standing in the middle of the bloodstained street, his sword dripping crimson. His eyes never left us as we were slowly taken farther and farther away. I clenched my fists. No matter what happens next... I'll bring James back. I'll return him safely to Robert. In the distance, I caught sight of Lyra watching me amid the ruins of the battlefield. I knew she was angry... disappointed that I had failed to control myself. But I silently made her a promise. I would come back to her as soon as I could.
