Chapter 1
"Jessie! Jessie!! Jessie!!! Arise and shine darling, for it is a new and beautiful day." Katherine says as she wakes up her daughter while opening the curtains.
"Good morning, mom. I hope you slept well." Jessica says as she pulls out the quilt and sits up on the bed. "Good morning. Of course not, dear. How do you expect me to sleep comfortably when you bearly ate last night due to your annoyance. Sweetheart, I want you to understand that your father and I love you so much and care about your well fair. Marrying George is not a bad idea. We have been in good terms with his family for so many years and at the look of things he is well trained to be the heir of his father's throne." "Mom, I understand quite well that you and dad want the best for me, but you don't seem to understand that I don't have any feelings for him. In fact, I don't feel comfortable around him let alone to get married to him. Also I am in love with Maxwell and I wouldn't want to betray him. Please mom, try to understand and find a way to convince dad about how I feel."
"There is no going back on the decisions made. Besides, It has been ten years ago since you saw him, that was when you were a teenager. When you meet him at the ball that will be held next weekend you will appreciate him and I believe that with time you will be deeply in love with him, because I don't see anything wrong with him. He is handsome, rich, a prince and has a good physique that women crave for. You should consider yourself lucky to have such a hottie as your spouse. Also, I don't see Maxwell taking the relationship serious. So don't waste your time daydreaming and focus on what is relevant."
"Why is it so difficult for me to express myself. What have I done wrong to be treated this way?" "Sweetheart, you didn't do anything wrong. I would like you to think about it. You will be highly grateful. I have to go now to get ready for work. Take good care of yourself." Katherine says finally and hugs her daughter before leaving.
Jessica is a 24 years old girl that studies accountancy in the university and lives with her parents Mr. Henry Fields, a successful business man and the CEO of Fields industry and Mrs. Katherine Fields, a fashion designer.
Jessica hurriedly got out of bed, went straight to the bathroom and had her bath as she contemplated on the issue at hand, not knowing exactly what to do to escape all this marriage dilemma. She came out of the bathroom and went to her wardrobe to find a casual, but elegant cream colour body fitted blouse with a flay brown knee length skirt outfit and a pair of cream colour shoes. When she reached her vanity table she found an envelope kept there and wondered who kept it and whom it was from. There was a knock on the door.
"Come in." She responded. Rachel her nanny in her early forties came in. "Good morning, aunty Rachel." She greeted without turning her head from the table.
"Good morning, Jessie. I hope you had a nice sleep." She greeted and continued: "Your dad asked me to tell you to come for breakfast."
Jessica replied immediately: "Tell him that I am coming."
"Do you know who kept this envelope here?" She asked.
"Yeah, I was the one that kept it there last night, you had fallen asleep by then, so I didn't want to wake you up and decided to keep it there for you. A young man came here yesterday evening and asked after you, I told him that you weren't at home, so he asked me to give it to you. He also told me that it was from his master. I asked him who his master is, he said that his master preferred to keep his identity anonymous and that you will get to know more about him when the time comes." Rachel explained.
"Did he tell you where he was coming from, can you describe him?" Jessica asked curiously.
"He didn't tell me either where he was coming from when I asked him. I nearly refused collecting the envelope from him, but he insisted that I should collect it, because his master won't take it light with him if he did not deliver his message as he ordered. For his appearance, he is a very young man that is in his early twenties and a bit tall."
Jessica thought of what her nanny just told her for a while, but she could not make out anything from it, because she knows that George is seven years older than her and as a prince the possibility of keeping his identity anonymous is close to none.
"Won't you open it to see its content. You might get a clue of who the person is from it." Rachel said as Jessica headed towards the door without being moved to touch the envelope.
"I will open it when I come back from having breakfast with my parents. I would not want to keep them waiting."
When they were going through the passage that leads to the dinning room Jessica asked: "Are my parents aware of the envelope and the messenger?"
"No, they are not." Rachel replied.
"Please, don't tell them about it until we are sure of the information."
"Sure, the story is safe with me." Rachel assured her.
On arriving at the dinning room, Jessica sat next to her father, Henry Fields, who was sitting at the head of the dinning table. Katherine was sitting at the left hand side of her husband.
"Good morning, dad."
"Good morning, my angel. How are you doing?"
"Hmmm, fine." Jessica replied reluctantly.
There was silence as they ate their breakfast. When they were almost through with their meal Henry broke the silence by asking: "Why do you think that George is not the right man for you to get married to?"
"Dad, I am in love with Maxwell. I have known him for two years now. And he promised to marry me very soon. How do you expect me to betray him and move on with someone I barely know or have no feelings for?"
"You are not wrong to have feelings for whoever for whatever reason, but are you sure of what you feel and his promises?"
"Yes of course, dad. He told me that we would get married in six months time." She replied with hope that her father is communicating.
"Now listen my dear. I would want you to give George a chance. You are going to meet him next weekend, but it is up to you to think carefully and decide wisely who you want to be with as your life partner. Marriage is not only about having feelings for each other, it is also about commitment."
"Thanks dad. I love you."
"I love you too, my angel."
She gave him a hug and left feeling a bit relieved. When she got back to her bedroom she picked up the envelope and opened it. She found a white silk handkerchief that has a golden rose embroidery on each of the edges and a golden necklace with a heart shaped pendant. She also found a letter which she opened instantly and read:
"To my beloved, I want to let you know that you are so dear to my heart. The very moment I set my eyes on you, I had the feelings that there is a connection between us. Though with time we will get to know about each other properly. The handkerchief and necklace represent how precious you are to me. I would not want to part with you and I hope that you would understand and cherish me as well. Love, From an admirer."
She placed the letter on her chest feeling ecstatic to meet her mysterious admirer. Also, she held the handkerchief and appreciated its soft texture, she also thought of putting on the necklace immediately. On a second thought she decided to put it on some other day.
'But I already have someone in mind. Who could it be? I just hope that Maxwell keeps his word, with that mom and dad will understand that we really love each other.' She thought to herself while folding and putting the letter back into the envelope and also neatly keeping the handkerchief and necklace in the first drawer of her vanity table.
She got herself ready for school, Rachel caught up with her as she was about enter her sports car in the garage.
"Have you opened it to know what it is about?" Rachel asked.
"Yes, I have. But the person didn't write his name or information about him. He only entailed his feelings for me and a beautifully embroidered silk handkerchief and necklace were included, which I will show you when I come back from school. I wish to know who he is. He stated that he had seen me before."
"Don't you worry, my child. You will definitely know since he has feelings for you. Have a nice time."
"Thanks a lot. And you too." Jessica replied cheerfully and drove off to school.
On arriving to the school's parking lot she observed that students were gathered at the front of the first building on entering the school's compound.
'What is going on?' She asked herself and quickly got out of the car, hoping that she didn't miss out on the information that would be given.
