CHARLOTTE POV
DANGER ZONE
My younger sister is very obstinate and mulish, causing her to make very brutal and deadly decisions all the time, one of which she is making now. It’s up to me to stop her from playing with fire, this time it’s not ordinary fire. It’s a poisonous one in the form of the most dangerous and wealthy Billionaire in our city.
“Do you even know who you are trying to play these dirty games with? He’s Oscar ADAMS! The same one and only Oscar, Lucy!!, please I beg you, just quit all of these now,”. I started my speech by admonishing her.
But remembering quickly that Lucy doesn’t do well with taking orders or commands, especially from me. She’s so spoilt and rude but I love her nevertheless.
“Ohooo please, spare me the lectures.. I’m smart and not dumb, do you think its an easy task to make the most poweful and wealthy bachelor fall so deep in love? Alex kept talking about how wealthy and Famous he is. I had to check for myself,” my sister responded, beaming one of her sweet smiles at me.
“He’s my boss and I know that he doesn’t like to share his things, Lucy you are sleeping with his cousin too, Alex and his mother live in Oscar’s’ mansion estate, it means that if you decide to marry him in the future, you would cause a huge fight between the two brothers.”
This time I made sure my voice was softer and more pleading, if it will make my sister listen, I really don’t mind going on my knees to beg, Oscar ADAMS isn’t someone to be toyed with, he’s crazy and scary.
“Charlotte you are getting on my nerves right now, are you jealous of us? I mean.. don’t look at me like that, he loves me and showers me with expensive gifts and money, I intentionally bumped into him for all of these goodies and I know what I’m putting myself into before I did, so quit lecturing me,” Lucy voice was getting sturdier and firmer.
She stood up from the sofa in her bedroom and walked toward her window, backing me. She does that whenever she’s trying to keep her irritation at bay.
Lucy is my biggest problem and source of worry, always causing one trouble or the other for me and now it’s my boss!. If I try to advise or caution her about her lifestyle she will remind me about our dead parents.
Just as I was thinking of what to do or say, she turned abruptly at me and gave me a very wicked smile before opening her mouth to sing her usual song.
“Don’t try to lecture me, you are not my parent, you killed them for a stupid birthday cake! And don’t say you were too young to know…” she yelled at me, tears welling In her eyes.
I sniffed in the tears that were threatening to spring out of my eye as well. Lucy is so good at making me feel bad and useless, always throwing all her bad behaviour and mistakes at me, acting like the loss of our parents is what made her so uncouth and greedy.
“You made them stay indoors with you, by lying about being sick when you weren’t, it was my birthday and you knew how much the cake they promised me meant to me Lucy, I was only twelve then and I didn’t know they would want to make it up to me that night!” I shrieked back at her.
“Ohooo, so you want to deny the fact that you ruined our life? After they died what happened to us? Uhhhnnn! didn’t we lose all the money they worked hard for? A whole me, was forced to live in this old and poor house,” Lucy spat out the one word that I hate to hear.
Looking down on our Grandmothers' house or her love for us, the old woman took us in when we had no one, took care of us with her last set of strength and made sure we went to school up till college, although I assisted by working hard alongside with her but yet, Grandma Magaret would not be insulted.
“Watch your mouth Lucy, watch it now… you can insult me and redivide me but not Grabdma, enough of your disrespect,” I warned my sister, walking briskly to face her by her window side.
She realized at once that she had gone overboard and relaxed her tensed muscle at Once, looking away from my furious face. I hate fighting with my younger sister but she’s a hard brick to c***k and always enjoys being at loggerheads with me.
“Just stop acting like you are closer to Oscar than I am, all because you’ve worked in one of his hotels for six years, he doesn’t even know about your existence until he had me investigated by his men, because he loves me” Lucy picked another topic.
And this time she choose to flaunt Oscar love for her in my face, calling me a nobody in the process.
“I worked six years for you, remember that? Dropped out of high school and attended only a two year programme in college. So that you can have enough to complete your whole education while I work,” I seriously don’t know why I keep explaining myself to her.
When she definitely knows about all the love and sacrifices I have given to her since her birth. She didn’t respond to me, except for rolling her eyes and snorting louding.
“I might not love your boss but at least I’m helping him to love, he’s able to finally have real emotions for a woman for the first time in his life. He told me himself that aside from his aunty, he wasn’t able to feel for anyone until I came along,”
Lucy ignored me and continue to blabber about how important she’s to Oscar, the same man who’s she dating his cousin along with him. A disaster is about to happen and I do hope it won’t wreck us all.
“But wait charlotte, enough of fighting with you for now, do you know his wealth is generational? I mean, all of his ancestors were super Wealthy and he can’t seem to get angry with me even though he’s so cold and strict to everyone else.” Lucy informed me, her eyes filled with so much pride.
The new information made me more scared. The fact that Oscar had met with my sister is a big disaster. The man chose to give love a chance With an unserious person like Lucy? I felt sad on his behalf, he would be so broken when he find out that Lucy is only after his wealth and fame.
“Grandma is sick with cancer right now and I need to focus on work because we need lots of money for her treatnent, please Lucy I’m begging you, keep your troubles away, the last time you got pregnant for a married man, his wife came to my workplace and almost burnt me with acid,” Relieving the memory was scary enough.
Lucy chucked at me while patting my shoulder before walking briskly to her wardrobe, looking for a dress to wear for her dinner date with Oscar, will she ever listen?.
“Spare me story about that old hag and yes! I used you again this time dear sister, I lied about needing money urgently for school, knowing fully well that you would never allow me visit your work place because Oscar was visiting for weekly check in with the hotel..”
“Yes, don’t be shocked, you told me about him coming every Friday to check with the hotel where you work so I planned my move on that day and you were the excuse … you killed our parent so you have to fill in the gap Charlotte,”
“I want somthing, you get it for me, you’ve been doing a good job taking care of all my expensive needs and unlimited want and I will need you not to slack off now? Especially now that I need to look great for my new catch, “ I kept quiet all the while she spat out her nonsense.
Wishing our parents never died, I would have been able to live my own life and not waste it away for a sister who doesn’t respect her grandmother let alone her elder sister.
“He’s here, he came to pick me up personally, ohooo my sweet Oscar, Charlotte just stay hidden in your room, You look like a mess!” Lucy suddenly screamed before dashing out of her room to meet with my boss outside our house.
My reply to my sister died in my throat along with the sound of her bedroom door slamming loudly in my face, I fell face down into the floor and cried silently, Lucy is my sister and I love her so much but, at times like this I wish she wasn’t my sister.
