Chapter 1 Drey felt the pain and pressure blast straight into her chest. She opened her eyes to see a swirling dark vortex engulfing her. f**k am I dead? Is this death? Or Hell? Definitely not Heaven. To dark to be Heaven, Drey thought as she observed her surroundings. She noticed she felt very calm in this pitch black void. f**k I wish I could be at Jace's house, she thought. As if the void read her mind, a portal like illusion opened up in front of her in the view of Jace's bedroom. "What the-?" She exclaimed, slowly sticking her arm through the portal. Suddenly she felt as if her arm was being yanked on. Suddenly she flew through the portal and landed directly on to a familiar bed. She looked around to see rap and rock posters all over the walls. Holy s**t I'm really here! How the bloody hell did I get here? she thought, looking around frantically. The room door suddenly opened to reveal a shirtless Jace with a sandwich in his mouth and handfuls of snacks. He let out a high pitched muffled scream, causing Drey to roll her eyes. "Dude how the hell you get in my room?!" he screeched, picking up his snacks. Such a drama queen, she thought. "Nice to see you too, bestie. Thanks for checking up on me, you know, with being shot and all" she quipped. Suddenly she froze. Wait, I was shot. The thought finally settled in. "I WAS SHOT!" she exclaimed, checking over her body. Crazy enough there was no wound or any indication that she had been shot at all. The f**k? she thought. She couldn't have just made it up, especially when she was banging...oh god... "What do you mean you were shot?" Jace exclaimed, suddenly worried. At that moment, the TV blared to life. "BREAKING NEWS! HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER ARRESTED IN THE MURDER AND SHOOTING OF HIS WIFE AMARIE HARRISON AND AN UNKNOWN VICTIM. WHEREABOUTS OF THE SHOOTING VICTIM REMAINS UNKNOWN." Jace slowly turned from the TV to Drey with a look of shock on his face. "Bro, what the f**k did you do!?" he said slowly. "Bro I don't even know what went down! One minute I was face deep in the kitty, next thing BLOW! I'm shot and all I see is pitch black! Now I'm here and I don't even know how I got through the goddamned front door or how I'm even standing!" "Okay, okay lets take a deep breath and just think. What came to your mind at that point in time" he said, sitting in a chair next to her. Drey took a deep breath and thought back to when she got shot. She thought back to the pressure that hit her and then suddenly disappearing to in a dark void. For some reason she felt like her body got a whole lot lighter. "What the hell?!" Jace exclaimed, moving back in his chair. Drey opened her eyes to see Jace frantically looking around. "What are you doing?" She asked, causing him to jump and look her way. He had a look of astonishment. "Dude, you're invisible!" he exclaimed, holding his hands out in her direction. Drey looked at him crazy before hopping off his bed. She ran to his vanity and gasped when she couldn't see herself. This is trippy, she thought. She examined herself and started thinking about how good it would be to see herself. Suddenly, her body seemed to phase from pitch black to normal. She felt a pull towards a shadow part of the room. She slowly moved toward the shadow and stuck her hand out. Soon enough, her arm began to get engulfed by the shadow, followed by her whole body. Holy s**t! I blended into the shadow! she thought. "Dude what the hell happened to you? You got like dark powers or some s**t!" Jace exclaimed, walking over to where Drey is. "Even your eyes are different!" He added, holding up his phone camera to her. He was right. Her eyes were no longer light brown. They were now pitch black with white lining. They looked dark and mystical . Drey was so dumbstruck she didn't even notice her body phased back until she saw her normal self besides her eyes, which now have black veins protruding on the side and under her eyes. She was so shocked and amazed at the same time. She slowly brought her hand up to her face and gently guided her fingers over the black veins. Okay, this is freaky, she thought. She was so confused and lost in what was going on. She remembered everything was simple and shitty, just the way she liked it. Every now and then banging your hated teachers, wife everything was fine. Then your shot...shot and don't even understand how you're alive or even have this...thing going on. While she was deep in thought, Drey felt a soothing sensation swirl around her hand. She held her hand out to see a dark essence swirling around her hand. She played and twirled it around her fingers like it was the most natural thing in the world. Hell it felt like it! She was brought out of her thoughts again by the impact of a towel across her head. "You just became even more freakier and its awesome, but I'm not tryna get kicked off the basketball team to over your freakiness. So hurry up and take a shower. We got school in less than 2 hours", he said, walking into his closet. Drey smiled at the closet. She and Jace have been close friends since 5th grade. They became the siblings they never had. Ever needed anything, they'd run to eachother. She knew she could count on him. She grabbed his shampoo off the dresser and walked in to the shower to get ready for their day.
