Chapter 1—Fated reunion
Daisy’s POV On Sunday the 12th of January 2014, Tom Morrison who was my boss died of a heart failure. I wasn’t exactly sad about his passing, after all; my parents did give me to him as a settlement for all the debt they owed him. I had lived and served in Mr. Morrison’s household ever since I was a child. I knew of Morrison’s secrets, all the times he had cheated on his wife, the aborted pregnancies of the other house staff, his secret children. This was because he made me his hand maiden, I followed him everywhere, even the office. He tried occasionally to touch me too but he knew better than to put his secrets at risk. He owned the biggest media company in the city and I knew about some shady deals he had made to make his company grow bigger as well. All in all, he was not a good man. Still, he did give me food and a roof over my head for 12 years after my parents made me his slave at the tender age of 10. My biggest concern and what I was really afraid of was being homeless. Since he died, the contract must have been nullified, meaning that I was free. However, if the contract still stood then I was going to become his wife’s slave. His wife Magdalene had hated me since the day I stepped foot in their household. She was either going to throw me out on the streets, or enslave me further. A week had passed since Tom’s funeral. On that day, the house helpers including me were asked to dress moderately in preparation for Sam’s return. Sam was the first and only son known to Morrison’s family. He was his heir. Sam was just as promiscuous as his father. He was 5 years older than me. Back when he was a teenager he’d bring different girls to the mansion and I’d be asked to clean his room after whatever mess they would make. 7 years ago, he traveled overseas to further his education. I hadn’t seen him ever since. There had been rumors of him coming back to take care of his father’s company. They weren’t rumors anymore as I stood aside the other staff in my maid attire with my hands held together in wait for him, as per his mother’s instructions. “He’s here, everyone behave yourself” Maurice, the oldest of the staff said as we heard a loud honking outside the mansion’s gate. We all put up our best behaviors and waited at the house entrance. A strange man made his way from where the car was parked to the entrance. “Good day young master” everyone chorused. Everyone but me. I was too confused. I wondered if the person I saw was really Sam. I confirmed that he was indeed the one when his mother walked out and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Welcome home, Sammy. I’ve missed you so much” Magdalene said. Sam hugged her tightly, “I’ve missed you too”, he said. Even his voice didn’t sound the same. Before I could get my thoughts together he was standing in front of me. “Daisy, you look like you’ve seen a ghost” he said with a grin across his lips. “Girl, do you not know how to address the new master of this house hold?” Magdalene asked. Hearing her ask that in a gruff tone snapped me back to reality. “pardon me. Young master, it has certainly been a long time” I said in a shaky tone. “You certainly have grown into a fine woman. Not bad at all” Sam said, brushing his hand against my waist. He might have changed in looks but he was still the same uncultured human being. “I shall prepare the table” I said in an attempt to walk away. “You can leave that to Maurice. I just came home after a long trip. You should help me unpack my stuff in my room” Sam said. He had that same grin on his face. I could see the same animalistic look of desire I had always seen in his eyes. I looked at Sam, then turned to his mother, then back to Sam. “did he stutter or do you have hearing problems?” Magdalene questioned. “Apologies Ma’am. I will do as instructed.” I responded. I was feeling more anxious than ever. I hadn’t been in his room in 7 years, cleaners were assigned to keep it tidy. My chest felt tight. In the past I hated it whenever Sam touched me. This time it was different. Something about his touch had me wanting more. I perished the thought just as quickly as it came. I followed behind Sam who made it up to his door and unlocked it. “Go in” he commanded in a voice that sound authoritative and warm at the same time. “Seems like the room had already been put in order. Was there any need for my coming here?” I asked politely. I was still very weary of him because I knew he hadn’t changed in the slightest. Rather I was afraid that he had gotten worse overtime. Sam threw himself on the bed and took a sigh. He had been exhausted from the journey. “I’m sure you already figured but now that my father is gone, whatever contract you had is nullified. Why are you still in the house if you’re free now? Have you grown too attached to the luxury life your parents never gave you?” He questioned, almost in a mocking manner. “That’s not it, Sa— young master I mean. I do not have a place to go, I was never paid a dime by your father” I replied, my voice shaky as I tried to hide the fear of being homeless that overwhelmed me. “My mother plans to throw you out. I have a proposition. Would like to you work as my personal assistant?” Sam asked in his most serious tone.
