Chapter 2

LEXI'S P.O.V "Beep... Beep.... Beep...." Where is that annoying sound coming from? I immediately opened my eyes remembering I have school today. The nightmare from the night before was still fresh in my mind and for a moment I thought of staying in and skipping school even though it was my first day. I turned to my side to stare at the new city through the windows. It was quiet with the street lights illuminating everywhere making it look lively. No noisy neighbors, no sirens, just birds chirping and singing. It calmed me in a way, settling my disturbed mind. I don't know where the strength came from, but I found myself getting up from bed and heading to the bathroom to take a bath and prepare for school. I looked at my reflection in the mirror – hair tangled, eyes dull and lifeless. I sighed, entering the shower and letting the warm water calm me and wash away thoughts of the nightmare that still clung to me. I brushed my teeth and stepped out of the bathroom to the walk – in – closet. I put on a black jeans and red crop top hoodie and brushed my black-and-brown curly hair that reached my lower back. I added a bit of eyeliner and a nude colored lip-gloss. I stared at myself in the mirror and couldn't help but admire myself. My hair wasn't as pale as it used to be and my eyes were lively and vibrant than before. Maybe this was it, the ray of hope I've been looking for. I twirled around in front of the floor-length mirror. "Okay, who's that?" I muttered, turning in front of the mirror. "It's me b***h – Certified baddie." I giggled a little before blowing a kiss at the mirror and heading out. I went to my room, collected my phone, wallet and power bank and put them in my school bag before heading downstairs for breakfast. The smell of breakfast met me halfway down the stairs. Mum was humming softly in the kitchen while Dad was sitting down in his favorite chair with his black coffee and newspaper. Logan, my twenty-six year old brother was slouched in a chair scrolling through his phone. "Morning." I announced with a bright smile giving Mom and Dad a peck on the cheek before sitting on a chair. All three of them looked surprised at my actions. Ever since what happened two years ago, I've always been withdrawn and never openly expressed affection but today was different. I've resolved that I want to have a fresh start, the past should stay in the past; and that starts with me having a good relationship with my family. Because no matter who betrays you or leaves you, family will never, a family is the strongest bond in the world. My mom's eyes softened instantly. "Good morning, sweetheart." She said with a smile and kissed my forehead. Dad blinked, smiled and nodded. "Good morning, dearie. You're up early." He kissed my forehead and ruffled my hair. "Urghh, Dad. I just made that." I pouted, straightening my hair with my hand. He just chuckled and smiled. Logan cleared his throat and we all turned to him. "Am I the insignificant one in this family? I didn't so much as get a kiss on the cheek." He grumbled like a child. I rolled my eyes at his childish antics. My mom leaned closer and placed a kiss on his forehead. "Mummy's boy." I murmured. "Daddy's girl." He murmured back ruffling my hair. I groaned in frustration. What is with these men and my hair today? Do they want it to look like a bird's nest? Logan stuck his tongue out while I glared at him. "Okay... that's enough both of you. Lexi, eat your breakfast you don't want it getting cold. And Logan, you're dropping Lexi off at school." My mum scolded, placing hot pancakes on my plate with hot cocoa. I shot her a smile as a thank you and she nodded with a smile of her own. "Mom, do I really have too? I don't want to be late for work." Logan whined, holding my mom's hand. "Yes, you do." She replied in a firm voice before heading back to the kitchen. Logan has a company of his own. It was originally my dad's company, but when he turned forty-five, he passed it on to Logan. Logan was twenty at the time. He was the youngest billionaire in the world and still is. He made a lot of changes in the company and it expanded to all parts of the world, growing and flourishing. He's the top most handsome and youngest billionaire in the world. Back then, in my old school when he would come and pick me up, girls used to flock around him like bees never giving him breathing space, that's why most times he carries bodyguards or wears a mask. And me being the sister to the youngest billionaire is a hassle. Girls would become friends with me just to get his number and sometimes paparazzi could come to our school to get photos of me. Logan didn't like me being in the spotlight so he dealt with the paparazzi and they eventually stopped coming. But having a rich brother still has its perks. I snapped out of my thoughts and hurriedly finished my food, not wanting to be late for school. I kept the plate in the sink and dashed out. "Bye Mum, bye Dad. Have a nice day." I turned around and offered them a bright smile. "Okay... be good and have fun. Try and make friends." They both shouted from the couch. "I'll try my best." I hurriedly shut the door and went outside. Logan was standing by his BMW E60. When he saw me, he jingled his car keys, looking like a movie star. "Come on, sunshine. Don't make me late." I held my school bag tighter and jogged to his car, he opened the car door for me and I entered before shutting it. He walked over to the driver's seat, sat down and drove off. The drive to the school was silent, except from the soft music playing through the speakers. "Okay," Logan said, breaking the silence. "What's the vibe today? Rebel student or main character energy?" I smirked, tugging my hoodie tighter. "Both. Gotta keep the baddie energy flowing." I winked at him. He laughed, shaking his head. "You nervous?" "A little." I admitted, rubbing my palms together. I stared out the window as the school came into view – kids laughing, lockers clanging, life buzzing all around. "But it's fine. I'll manage." Logan glanced at me, his eyes softening. "It's okay, you'll be fine. There's nothing you can't handle." I smiled brightly at him. Even though he can be annoying at times, he's very caring and knows the right thing to say that brightens my mood and calms me down. He parked in front of the school, bringing the car to a stop. "Here we are." He said, glancing at the building. I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out of the car, nerves twisting in my stomach. "Remember," Logan said, leaning back in his seat. "Don't let anyone mess with you. If anybody threatens you or harasses you, call big brother and he will take care it. And don't go getting yourself lost on your first day." I rolled my eyes. "I'm fine Logan. Really." He smirked, shaking his head. "Yeah, sure. Just... don't do anything stupid." I laughed softly. "I'll try my best not to." He gave me a quick teasing salute before starting the engine again. As he pulled away, I caught him glancing back at me through the rearview mirror. I waved at him. "Bye, big brother." He gave me one last grin before disappearing down the street. I took a deep breath and entered inside the school, feeling the first real spark of excitement in the pit of my stomach. New city. New school. New life. Time to step in – and start a new chapter and beginning in my life.
