Chapter 13

"What? Entry denied?" Nathan asked in shock. Kim frowned. "You must be mistaken. This invitation was personally delivered to Mr. Nathan Marion by Mr. Field. How can we be blacklisted?" The security guard's face remained indifferent. "No mistake. Anyone on the blacklist is prohibited from entering." Hunter was furious. "This man is the future head of the Marion family and our Barton family’s future son-in-law. How dare you stop us?" The guard sneered. "Barton family? Marion family? Never heard of you. Keep causing trouble, and we won't be so polite." "Nathan, what's going on? Is the invitation fake?" Hunter glared angrily at Nathan, his previous respect gone. Seeing Hunter's change, Nathan said, "I'll go confirm what's going on." With no better option, Hunter and the others nonchalantly nodded. Nathan felt the sting of their changed demeanor and turned angry. But he knew he needed to clear up the invitation issue. He walked towards the guard. "Please show your invitation," the guard demanded, blocking Nathan. Nathan took a deep breath and handed over his invitation. The guard glanced at it and, with the same cold expression, said, "Sorry, you're also on the blacklist. No entry." "What? What nonsense are you spouting? I'm the young master of the Marion family! How dare you deny me entry?" Nathan seethed with anger. He had never experienced such humiliation before. Additionally, the Marion family's swift ascent had earned them considerable recognition in M City. 'If news spreads that I can't even gain access to Stanley Field's banquet, the Marion family will become a laughingstock.' "I've told you, if you keep causing trouble here, we won't be so nice." At this, a dozen guards stared menacingly at Nathan and his fellows. Seeing this, Nathan and the others were too scared to speak further. "You just wait. When my father gets here, you'll regret this," Nathan muttered under his breath. He then led the Barton family to wait nearby, vowing that once his father, the head of the Marion family, arrived, he would have him teach these disrespectful guards a lesson. At that moment, a Cadillac pulled up. Clement, the head of the Joseph family, stepped out of the car, followed by Norman and Edison, who were leaning on crutches and looking rather ridiculous. Both men's faces were sullen after having their legs broken by Vincent's men at the hospital earlier that day. At Clement's recent birthday party, Nathan had assured them they could attend Stanley Field's banquet. Such an opportunity was rare, so despite their injuries, Norman and Edison had hobbled over on crutches and followed Clement here. "Grandpa, that bastard Vincent is unbearable! He had our legs broken! You must avenge us!" Edison cried out, his face full of grief and anger. "Yeah, Dad, Vincent is way out of line! He's just a worthless son-in-law of our Joseph family, yet he dared to threaten us to publicly apologize to Emma. It's outrageous!" Norman echoed, equally enraged. Clement snorted coldly. "Don't worry. After the banquet, I'll have Vincent dealt with. He'll learn what it means to cross our Joseph family." Hearing Clement's words, Norman and Edison exchanged a cruel smile. As they reached the entrance, a security guard stepped forward. "Hold on. Please show your invitations." Edison shouted, "How dare you! We're from the Joseph family. How dare you stop us?" The guard remained unfazed. "I don't care who you are. Everyone needs an invitation to enter." Clement said calmly, "Hand over the invitation Mr. Nathan Marion gave us." He knew his family was considered minor in M City, and Stanley Field, the city's wealthiest man, was not someone they could offend. Reluctantly, Edison handed over the invitation. The guard glanced at it, then tossed it to the ground. "Hey, what the hell are you doing?" Edison yelled, his expression darkening. The guard's expression was icy. "Sorry, but you're on the blacklist. You can't come in." "What did you say, you piece of s**t? How dare you insult the Joseph family? You’re asking for it!" Edison, enraged, tried to grab the guard. With a strong shove, the guard sent Edison crashing to the ground, screaming in pain. Clement's face darkened. "I am the head of the Joseph family. There must be some mistake." The guard remained indifferent. "There's no mistake. Anyone on the blacklist cannot attend the banquet." Clement's expression turned extremely unpleasant. "Dad, what do we do now?" Norman asked. "Wait," Clement growled. "We'll wait for Mr. Field. I want to know why we're not allowed in." Hunter and his group noticed the Joseph family also being stopped. They felt a bit smug. It seemed they weren’t the only ones on the blacklist. Soon, an unusual scene unfolded at the entrance: the bustling, lively crowd moving through the gates, while two groups of scowling people stood on either side. The wealthy guests at the banquet couldn't resist looking at the Barton and Joseph families with a hint of scorn on their faces. At that time, both families stood there and looked grim. They felt like clowns, surrounded by people watching and laughing at their predicament. Suddenly, the roar of an engine drew everyone's attention. A military Hummer pulled up, and Emma stepped out with her parents. Una, seeing the lavish decorations, couldn't help but gasp in amazement. When the other guests noticed, they chuckled. Franklin hurried forward to gesture to Una to stay calm. Una noticed the Joseph and Barton families stuck outside and couldn't resist showing off. "Why aren’t you going in? Don’t you want to?" Hunter exploded with anger. "Una, I am your father. Show some respect!" Clement stepped forward. "What are you doing here? You don’t belong here, you lowly people."
