LOS ANGELES—PHOENIX LABS
Dr. Jackson Fredricks sat at his desk in the newly renamed Phoenix Labs, shifting his attention between several holographic displays spread out across his desk. Thorpe and Braxton had given him a great deal to think about. For one, of course he was checking their calculations. For two, Drs. Brad Kominsky and Sally Nguyen from School of Mines needed lab space out of the public view where they could conduct their portal research. For three, the number of thinsats it would take to create the three swarms…he ran a couple of calculations. He would need thirty-one billion thinsats for Earth-Sun L3 and eight billion for Mercury-Sun L1. For four, manufacturing that many thinsats would be an enormous undertaking that staggered the imagination.
