The Piano
I poured some wine into my glass and moved to my desk to look at the file that Marcus sent over just a few minutes ago. This case looks easy enough to take on. It’s not like I had any choice to begin with anyways. The girl’s name is Stephanie. 11-year-old with long blond hair with blue eyes. I just have to keep the kidnappers from her until my boss can track down the mastermind and stop the attackers indefinitely. Seems easy enough compared to the other cases I have taken in the past.               I meet Marcus tomorrow outside my apartment with all my belongings. There isn’t much to take. Just a bag full of clothes and my toiletries. I already packed when I read the file the first time.               Looks like she has an older brother that has been protecting her for some time. Looks like not good enough if I am needed. Then again, they do come from a blue blood family so he probably doesn’t know the first about getting his hands dirty.               Green eyes appeared in my vision unwillingly and I quickly turned my attention to refill my glass of wine to drown his image. I don’t need those memories right now. I need to focus on my case.   In the morning…                             “Hey Skylar. You ready for this? I don’t know how long you will be gone from this place so you probably need to settle things here.”               “I know Marcus, don’t worry about it. I already took care of everything when I received that file.”               I jumped into Marcus’ car and buckled up. Marcus is my handler. He handles my cases for me and keeps me updated on everything that goes on in our group and also keeps me in contact with Boss when it is needed. I would have to guess that he is around 30 years old but I could never get him to admit it to me, no matter how many drinks I pump into him. He has sandy brown hair in a military cut with brown eyes that remind me of milk chocolate. He is the only person I trust my past with.               Marcus glances at me and smirks, “You might even like living there with the girl and her brother. I have heard he is something else as far as personality and looks. He might even be able to tame you, my dear.”               I scoffed at him and turned my attention to the window. Marcus knows I have a special place in my heart for children, so he knew I couldn’t refuse this job even if I didn’t want to accept it. Children always reminded me of a better time in my life.               It didn’t take long to reach the mansion where I would be living at for an indefinite amount of time.               Marcus got out first and heads to the front door with me not too far tagging along, “Now mind your manners. They are clients of the Boss. Not your personal clients. Stay on your best behavior.”               I chuckled behind him. He knows me all too well.               Marcus knocked on the door. A few minutes later, a man opened the door with a black t-shirt and blue jeans. He sized up Marcus before asking, “Who are you?”               “We are the Blue Coats.”               The man paled and opened the door, gesturing inside for us to come in.               I followed Marcus while looking around the house. Marcus started conversating with the man that introduced himself as Avery. I slowly sneaked away from their company. I have never been good at social conversating. I always managed to say the wrong thing and put myself in an awkward situation.               As I was exploring, I found one room that contained shelves of books with huge windows that stretch to the ceiling and reaching all the way to the floor with a bench for sitting on every window. In the middle of the room was a piano.               I slowly approached the piano and played a few keys, half expecting it to be out of tune sine most rich people I have met seem to have theses things just for looks. To my pleasant surprise the piano was in tune.               I sat down on the bench and started a melody while humming. I thought of a song that used to give me comfort when with a certain person with green eyes. I sighed and slowly gave into the sadness that enveloped me and started playing the song while singing the lyrics.               The song is Always Remember Us this Way by Lady Gaga.               By the time I was done a tear fell down my cheek. I smiled silently at the keys.               “What are you doing here?”
