Chapter One: The humiliation
ANGEL'S POV “Wake up, Angel. I told you last night that I'll wake you. Did you think I was joking? Your brother will soon leave and you have to follow him now.” I was sleeping soundly when I heard a loud knock on my door. I tried to sleep again but the knock was heavier. My mother was banging on my door. She had come to inform me that my brother will soon be leaving and he was meant to drive me to school. “If you don't come out now, I'll tell him to kill your boyfriend.” My mother threatened. I opened my eyes and sat up instantly. “Mum, why are you doing this? My brother should wait for me. I'm coming now.” Good girl. I rolled my eyes. My mother is aware of my weakness, which is my boyfriend, Clinton Donald. It was a blessing to have a man like him in my life. He loves me so much. I was so comfortable calling him my own. He's the younger brother of our Alpha, Alex Donald. The love I have for Clinton extended to my mother, but my mother hated him, and if there's a way he would separate both of them, he would have done that long ago. Despite the fact that Alex and Clinton are siblings, they are totally different from each other. It'll be difficult for a stranger to find out that they're siblings. Clinton is a calm, collected person. He's social and everybody's friend. On the other hand, Alex was a cold-hearted man. He was the direct opposite of his brother. Because of his personality, he scares people away from coming close to him coupled with the fact that he's an Alpha. They said that with a gaze as sharp as a dagger, he exudes an air of danger that sends shivers down the spine of those who dare to cross his path. He was not just the strongest but also a business tycoon who, through his experience in business, catapulted our pack to the next level. Well, that's what I heard about him. I had only seen him once. That was during Clinton's birthday. I was relieved that Clinton is not like his brother and I love him the way he is. I went to have a shower and wore my green long gown and my favourite sneakers. I quickly grabbed my phone and bag and dashed downstairs. “See, she's seldom on time. She loves to attend to anything late.” I overheard my brother complaining to my mother about me. “Mom, don't listen to him. That is how he loves pressuring me all the time. If you were not around he would left me because he's very impatient.” My Mom laughed because she was used to our bickering. She just had both of them, and most times when she sees us bickering, it makes her happy. Kingsley and I bade our mother goodbye and left. My mother had instructed my brother to always drop me off at school each time he goes to work. My brother is the Alpha's PA and always goes around with him. “Kingsley, why were you rushing? If you don't drop me I'll tell Clint…” “Don't mention that name here. I'll be dropping you off at school, but let me tell you the truth: I hate that boy.” I quickly frowned at him. “It’s not a must that you must like him. He's not your boyfriend, he's my boyfriend. So whether you like him or not, it's none of your business. He said he'll be coming to have a conversation with Mom after my eighteenth birthday.” I replied mockingly. When every mate reaches the age of eighteen, they will find their mate. Most times when they find their mate and they don't like him or her, they look out for their second chance mate. There's another law, this is just for our pack. Our pack's head, Alpha, could not reject his fated mate; if he did, his mate would die. Also, he'll be dethroned which would be worse than death to him. “That will be tomorrow, which is your birthday, Angel.” My brother reminded me. “Yes, or he may come a day after my birthday.” “I'll keep an eye on him, then allow him to be your mate.” Clinton is the same age as my brother. He did not like him, no matter how I tried to present him. “Ok, brother. Your wish is my command.” My brother pulled me close and knocked my head gently. He dropped me off at the main entrance of my school. I had studied very hard to get admission in the University of my choice. I was also a fresher. After the classes, I looked around but could not see my best friend, Linda. I tried reaching out to her but her number was not connecting. I was already missing Clinton so I dialled his number. He picked up on the second ring. “Baby, you're not in school today.” “Yes, I won't be in school today. I accompanied my brother to go and get his fiancée. You know their engagement is tomorrow. You're invited to the ceremony.” I sighed as I hung up the phone. He was doing the right thing by helping his family. Just then, an idea popped into my mind. “I should go to the pack's house to surprise him. I will help him out with some chores. I left the university and stopped a cab. I got to the pack's house. Guards halted me at the entrance and first but when I told them I was Kingsley's sister, they allowed me in. As I stepped into the house, a wave of fragrance enveloped me, filling the air with the sweet fragrance of blooming flowers. The walls were adorned with delicate bouquets, their petals gently cascading down like a waterfall of nature's beauty. Why would they not decorate the house? It was Alpha's Alex's engagement. I looked around to find Clinton, but he was nowhere to be found. “Excuse me, where is Clinton? I asked a maid. “He is not here.” The maid responded with a calm voice. I assumed he might be in his room. So I asked. “Where is his room?’ “Upstairs, in the corner? She replied before returning to her work. “Thanks.” I went upstairs and looked at the two corners. “Which one?” The right one or the left one? I asked myself, remembering that I had forgotten to ask about which corner. I followed my instinct and went to the far right corner. I walked slowly and opened the door. What I saw amazed me. It was a master bedroom. There was this sense of order and cleanliness that washed over me. The room was meticulously arranged and very neat. I gently sat on the bed and kept looking around the room. “Clinton,” I called but there was no response. I started contemplating whether I was in the right room since I did not ask the maid for the exact room. I made use of my instinct. I was contemplating this when I saw a picture hanging on the wall. I walked closer and found out that it's Clinton's picture. I was so carried away with watching the picture that I didn't know when someone walked into the room. All of a sudden , a cold voice behind me made me come out of my thoughts and shook me to the core. “How dare you enter my room without my permission?.
