Lizzy was quiet through dessert and the ride back to the hotel. She wasn’t sure what to make of Aaron’s confession. She’d always assumed he asked her to marry him because of Sam. After all, the timing made sense. But if he’d been planning to anyway, he was picturing his life with Lizzy long before Sam was a consideration.
Lizzy struggled to process the new information. Between her mixed up emotions and the copious amounts of wine, she was a mess. She followed Aaron to the hotel room and dropped to the bed when they entered the room.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m not sure. I shouldn’t have drank that much.”
Aaron handed Lizzy two pills and a glass of water. She took both without thinking and laid back on the bed. She rolled the empty glass over her forehead and wished for something cooler. S
