“Gills, this can’t go on any longer.”
I ignored him.
“I mean it,” he went on in a tone I’m sure he thought I’d find menacing and would have found himself somewhat diminished to know I was totally unconcerned.
In the week since my telling him to sleep in the spare room after making him aware the marriage he found so convenient was something quite different to me, I had grown more and more confident I could bring this handsome man of mine to heel in a way of my choosing.
My closing off of all avenues of intimacy between us and my refusal to engage in the usual marital banter to which he was used had seen a distinct change in his attitude towards me.
