Hale's Sword

Today is the day! I jumped out of bed and raced down the hallway to my twins room. "Kane! Get up!" I opened his door and jumped on his bed. "Wake uppppppppp!" One husky blue eye opened and looked into mine. "Why must you wake me at ungodly hours." I collapsed on him and rolled onto my back. "Today is the day. It's our day! We have to go get waffle house as is tradition before mother makes up and makes us eat with the rest of the pack." Kane rolled his eyes and pushed me off the bed. "Fine, get dressed and lets go. We have to be back in an hour." **************************************************************************************************************** "Why did you let me eat so much? I feel like I am going to explode!" I sunk down in the passenger seat of Kane's car.  "Don't blame me. You're the one that ordered four All Star combos." Kane laughed. I slumped lower in my seat. "Whatever animal is inside of me is starving me. I am always hungry and I can't contain it." Already the fullness that fatigued me just minutes earlier was already starting to wear off. Kane turned to me. "You must have an elephant in there seeing as how you are getting as fat as one." I gasped and touched my stomach. "I am perfect the way I am. I'd love to see you body shame your mate one day. Asshole." "I love women of all shapes and sizes. Don't get it twisted." He grumbled.  We pulled up to our house and just stared. In an hours time our entire driveway was filled.  "It's too early in the morning for this shit." I muttered as I clambered out of his car. We hadn't made it two steps into the front door when we were both smacked on the back of the head. "Ouch, what the hell!" I whirled around and immediately took a step back. My mother's emerald green eyes had darkened to almost black. "How many times have I told you how important today is? I asked you, I f*****g asked you to just once listen to what I have to say. Yet you still run off. Get changed. NOW. The other packs are here to meet you both." She growled. We took off upstairs to get changed into our outfits. I pursed my lips at the pink ball gown my mother picked out for me. UGH. I walked down the hall and was met at the stairs with Kane. His pink tie matching my dress. We both grimaced looking at the other.  Our mother ran up the stair with a frantic look on her face. "Hurry. You must hide." We ran down the stairs and followed our mother to a hidden compartment under the stairs. "Get in now. No matter what happens don't come out. Don't make a noise. Someone will come get you when you can come out. I love you both." A tear slid down her face. She shut the door behind her and ran. Through small holes in the door we watched as the windows busted in. Screams erupted all around us. I looked at Kane and saw tears rolling down his cheeks.  "Where are they? Where are the children?"  I don't think the sound of his voice would ever leave me. It was oily and dark. "They have been banished. You will never find them." My mother's voice was strong and unwavering.  A paled hand shot out and grabbed her by the throat. "Little one, I smell your lie. We will find them and we will end them." Mother screamed as the man bit her throat. "SHEAAAA!" My father roared. He tackled the man holding my mother. Fists flew in all directions. Another pale man approached and pulled a sword from his waistband. I covered my mouth and watched in horror as my father was stabbed from behind. My fathers lifeless body fell next to my mothers. "Dispose of the bodies. Tear this place apart until you find them."  We stayed in our hidden closet for days. No one came for us. We waited until we no longer had food before we opened the door. Blood was splattered everywhere. My heart beat an erratic rhythm in my chest as we took in the tragedy that happened before our eyes.  "Katarina. Kane." I looked over my shoulder and saw the one person in the world I never expected to see. My father's sister, Holly stood in the doorway. Kane ran over and hugged her tiny body. I just stared. I had never met her but he obviously had.  "Kane, we must go." Holly touched his tear stained face.  Realization hit me. I wasn't meant to go with my twin. Pain assaulted me so hard I grabbed at my chest. I had lost my parents and now was being separated from the only person I had left in my life. "Kat, let's go." He reached for me. Holly grabbed his arm. "I am sorry Kane, but her path must go another way." Fresh tears rolled down our faces as we looked at each other. "I love you brother mine. I will keep in touch and I will see you soon." I walked out the front door and out of my brother's life.
