Chapter 2: The Mysterious Stranger As Lexi walked back to her office, she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. She had promised Julian that she would keep his secrets safe, but she couldn't help but wonder what those secrets were. Just as she was about to sit down at her desk, her phone rang. It was her partner, Mike. "Hey, Lexi," Mike said. "I've got some news about the threats against Julian." "What is it?" Lexi asked, her curiosity piqued. "I've been going over the security footage, and I think I found something," Mike said. "There's a mysterious stranger who's been lurking around Julian's office building. I think he might be our guy." Lexi's eyes narrowed. "What does he look like?" she asked. "He's tall, with dark hair and a scar on his cheek," Mike said. "He's been wearing a black leather jacket and sunglasses." Lexi's mind was racing. She knew that she had to find out more about this mysterious stranger. "I'll come take a look at the footage," Lexi said. "See if I can recognize him." As she hung up the phone, Lexi couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. She knew that she was getting closer to the truth, but she also knew that she was taking a risk. She got up from her desk and walked over to Mike's office. When she arrived, Mike was sitting at his desk, staring at a computer screen. "Hey, Lexi," Mike said, looking up. "I've got the footage right here." Lexi sat down next to Mike and looked at the screen. The footage showed a tall, dark-haired man with a scar on his cheek. He was wearing a black leather jacket and sunglasses. "Do you recognize him?" Mike asked. Lexi shook her head. "No, I don't," she said. "But I think we should show the footage to Julian. See if he recognizes him." Mike nodded. "I'll send it over to Julian's office," he said. "See what he says." As they waited for Julian's response, Lexi couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. She knew that they were getting closer to the truth, and she was determined to find out who was behind the threats. A few minutes later, Mike's phone rang. It was Julian. "What did you think of the footage?" Mike asked. "I recognize him," Julian said. "His name is Victor. He's a former employee of mine." Lexi's eyes narrowed. "What did he do for you?" she asked. "He was a security guard," Julian said. "But I had to let him go. He was unstable." Lexi's mind was racing. She knew that they had to find Victor and bring him in for questioning. "We'll take care of it," Lexi said. "Don't worry." As they hung up the phone, Lexi turned to Mike. "We need to find Victor," Lexi said. "Now." Mike nodded. "I'll get started on it," he said. "You go back to Julian's office and make sure he's safe." Lexi nodded. She knew that she had to protect Julian, no matter what. As she walked back to Julian's office, Lexi couldn't help but feel a sense of determination. She was going to find Victor and bring him to justice, no matter what it took. When she arrived at Julian's office, she found him sitting at his desk, staring at a computer screen. "Hey, Lexi," Julian said, looking up. "I'm glad you're here." Lexi smiled. "I'm not going anywhere," she said. "You're safe with me." Julian's eyes locked on hers, and for a moment, Lexi felt a spark of attraction. "Thank you, Lexi," Julian said, his voice low. "I don't know what I would do without you." Lexi's heart skipped a beat. She knew that she had to be careful, that she couldn't let her feelings get in the way of her job. But as she looked into Julian's eyes, Lexi couldn't help but feel a sense of connection. She knew that she was in trouble. As Lexi stood there, looking into Julian's eyes, she couldn't help but wonder what secrets he was hiding. She knew that he was a complex person, with a past that was shrouded in mystery. "Julian, can I ask you something?" Lexi said, her voice soft. Julian nodded, his eyes never leaving hers. "Of course, Lexi. What is it?" "What happened to you in the past?" Lexi asked, her curiosity getting the better of her. "You seem to be hiding something." Julian's expression changed, and for a moment, Lexi saw a glimmer of pain in his eyes. "I've made mistakes, Lexi," Julian said, his voice low. "I've hurt people, and I've been hurt myself." Lexi's heart went out to him. She could see the pain in his eyes, and she knew that he was struggling to come to terms with his past. "What kind of mistakes?" Lexi asked, her voice gentle. Julian sighed, rubbing his temples. "I was involved in some shady dealings, Lexi. I was young and stupid, and I thought I could get away with it." Lexi's eyes narrowed. "What kind of dealings?" she asked. Julian hesitated, looking around the room nervously. "I was involved in some illegal business ventures," he said finally. "I was making a lot of money, but I was also taking a lot of risks." Lexi's expression was neutral. She wasn't surprised by Julian's revelation, but she was intrigued. "What happened?" she asked. Julian's eyes dropped, and he stared at the floor. "I got caught," he said. "I was arrested and charged with several felonies." Lexi's eyes widened. "What happened to you?" she asked. Julian shrugged. "I got lucky. I had a good lawyer, and I was able to plea bargain my way out of jail time." Lexi nodded, her mind racing with possibilities. She knew that Julian's past was more complicated than he was letting on, but she also knew that she had to be careful. As she stood there, looking at Julian, Lexi felt a sense of compassion wash over her. She knew that he was a complex person, with a past that was shrouded in mystery. As Julian left Lexi's office, he couldn't shake off the feeling that he was being watched. He had told Lexi about his past, and he knew that he had taken a risk. But he had also felt a sense of relief, knowing that he had finally shared his secrets with someone. As he walked back to his car, Julian noticed a black SUV following him. He quickened his pace, but the SUV kept pace with him. Suddenly, the SUV swerved and cut off Julian's path. Julian's heart racing, he tried to react, but it was too late. A group of masked men jumped out of the SUV and attacked Julian. He tried to defend himself, but he was outnumbered. Just as the men were about to deliver the final blow, a car screeched to a halt beside them. Lexi jumped out of the car, gun drawn. "Get away from him!" she yelled. The men hesitated, then turned and ran. Lexi rushed to Julian's side and helped him up. "Are you okay?" she asked, her voice shaking with concern. Julian nodded, wincing in pain. "Yeah, I think so," he said. Lexi's eyes narrowed. "We need to get you out of here," she said. "Now." She helped Julian into her car and sped away from the scene. As they drove, Lexi couldn't help but wonder who was behind the attack. Was it Victor, the mysterious stranger from the security footage? Or was it someone else entirely? She knew that she had to find out, and fast. Julian's life depended on it. As they arrived at Julian's penthouse apartment, Lexi helped him inside and tended to his wounds. "I'm sorry this happened," she said, her voice soft. Julian looked up at her, his eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you for saving me," he said. Lexi smiled, feeling a sense of warmth towards Julian. "That's what I'm here for," she said. As she looked into Julian's eyes, Lexi felt a spark of attraction. She knew that she had to be careful, that she couldn't let her feelings get in the way of her job. But as she stood there, looking at Julian, Lexi couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to kiss him. How But she also knew that she couldn't let her feelings get in the way of her job. She had to stay professional, no matter what. "I'm glad you told me, Julian," Lexi said finally. "But I have to ask, what does this have to do with the threats against you?" Julian's expression changed, and for a moment, Lexi saw a glimmer of fear in his eyes. "I think someone from my past is trying to hurt me," Julian said. "I think they're trying to sabotage my business and ruin my reputation." Lexi's eyes narrowed. "Who?" she asked. Julian hesitated, looking around the room nervously. "I don't know," he said finally. "But I think it's someone who's been watching me for a long time." Lexi's expression was neutral. She knew that she had to be careful, that she had to consider all the possibilities.
