 Chapter 1: Assignment  Lexi Thompson stood outside the sleek, modern building, her eyes scanning the rooftop for any signs of trouble. As a bodyguard for the private security firm, Phoenix Protection, Lexi had seen her fair share of high-stakes assignments. But this one was different.  She was about to meet her new client, Julian Saint Clair, billionaire CEO of Saint Clair Industries. Lexi had heard rumors about Julian's ruthless business tactics, but she wasn't intimidated. She had a job to do, and she was going to do it to the best of her ability.  Lexi took a deep breath, smoothing out her black tactical pants and adjusting her earpiece. She was dressed in her standard issue Phoenix Protection gear, complete with a Kevlar vest and a Glock 19 at her hip.  As she entered the building, Lexi was greeted by Julian's assistant, a poised and polished woman with a clipboard.  "Ah, Ms. Thompson, welcome. Mr. Saint Clair is expecting you." Well, I'm afraid I have a bit of a situation on my hands. There have been some... threats made against me, and I require someone with your particular skillset to keep me safe."  Lexi raised an eyebrow, her interest piqued. "What kind of threats, Mr. Saint Clair?"  Julian's smile grew wider, but his eyes seemed to darken. "Oh, just the usual. "Ah, that's need-to-know, Ms. Thompson. Let's just say that it's a business deal that's worth a lot of money, and there are people who are willing to do whatever it takes to stop me from getting it."  Lexi nodded, her mind racing with possibilities. She made a mental note to look into Julian's business dealings, to see if she could uncover any potential motives for the threats.  "I see," she said. "And have you received any other threats since then?"  Julian nodded. "Yes, there have been a few more letters, and some... unsettling phone calls. But I'm sure it's just someone trying to intimidate me."  Lexi raised an eyebrow. "I'm not so sure, Mr. Saint Clair. Threats like this can be serious, and we need to take them seriously."  Julian's expression turned serious, and for a moment, Lexi saw a glimmer of vulnerability behind his eyes.  "I know, Ms. Thompson. That's why I hired your firm. I need someone who can protect me from these threats, and help me uncover who's behind them."  Lexi nodded, her expression professional. "I understand, Mr. Saint Clair. I'll do everything in my power to keep you safe, and to help you get to the bottom of these threats."  Julian smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I appreciate that, Ms. Thompson. I feel safer already, knowing that you're on the job."  Lexi smiled back, feeling a spark of attraction that she quickly suppressed. She was here to do a job, not to get involved with her client.  "I'll get started right away, Mr. Saint Clair," she said. "I'll review your security protocols, and start looking into the threats you've received. I'll also assign a team to watch your back, and to provide additional security as needed."  Julian nodded, his expression serious. "Thank you, Ms. Thompson. I appreciate your professionalism, and your dedication to keeping me safe."  Lexi smiled, feeling a sense of satisfaction. She was going to do everything in her power to keep Julian Saint Clair safe, and to help him uncover the truth behind the threats against him.
