Chapter One: Fresh Start
Scarlett crossed her arms and glared at Tom, her patience stretched thinner than his excuses.
“Tom,” she said, her voice sharp like a whip, “I’m done. Done with your whining, your attitude, your—well, basically everything. So back off before I make you regret thinking you could mess with me.”
Tom’s face turned red, his jaw twitching. “You… you can’t just—”
“Watch me,” Scarlett cut him off, her smirk daring him to say another word. “Seriously, take your sad little self and disappear.”
He puffed up like a balloon about to pop, muttered something under his breath, and stomped away, leaving Scarlett grinning like she’d just won the easiest battle of her life.
She shook her head and strutted toward class, hips swinging to the beat of her own confidence. That’s when she heard it: a low, teasing wolf-whistle from across the room. She turned and caught Blake’s gaze — tall, impossibly good-looking, and annoyingly magnetic. Scarlett raised an eyebrow, gave a teasing wink, and let her smirk linger just long enough to make him notice.
Her friends in the class glanced her way, smiles spreading across their faces. Scarlett slid into her usual spot, denim brushing against her black sneakers, black crop top hugging her like it knew all her secrets.
“Guess who’s officially single?” she announced, throwing her hair over her shoulder.
Her friends leaned in, eyes sparkling with curiosity and mischief.
“Tom finally realized he couldn’t handle Scarlett?” one whispered, barely containing laughter.
Scarlett grinned, her green eyes glinting. “Oh, honey, let me tell you… that walking disaster was trying to act like he was the prize. I mean, please. That boy’s got less charm than a soggy toast and his personality? Non-existent. I swear, if arrogance could kill, Tom would’ve been six feet under by now.”
Her friends laughed, one clutching her stomach. Scarlett basked in the glory, letting the sass roll off her tongue.
“And let’s be real,” she continued, voice dripping with venomous delight, “he spends half his life thinking he’s hotter than he is. Newsflash, Tom: no one’s blind, we can see the desperate clinging to relevance. Pathetic.”
More laughter filled the room. Scarlett leaned back, satisfied. Single life had never looked so good — and somehow, she had a feeling today was going to get even more interesting.
