~ACCALIA~
We all stand facing the forest, waiting for the Alpha to make an appearance. When he does, he leads us into the forest where we hide behind trees.
My heart starts thumping so bad against my ribcage as my pulse presses outward, jerking the veins within. Only if I can stay rooted in the present but time always just pushes ahead.
My heart is still hammering but I keep my gait casual with no hint of hesitation since they'll be able to feel discomfort in the pack bond.
They can’t know about what's happening to me.
My empty burning lungs and my heart hitting my chest so hard make me tremble in thought it will break my ribs and rip apart my skin.
Esmee is the only one who can fill this void right now, and make this fear of being cast out away.
We stand in number.
Mom grips my hand tightly like I’m a kid who will get lost if she’s left by herself.
“Wait for all of us to shift” Mom whispers in my ears.
I just nod before she leaves.
My fur is not just white but a very white one which can blind you if you stare for a long time.
No she-wolf has white fur like mine.
I’ve never heard of a wolf with fur as white as light. If I take my wolf’s skin, you might mistake me for an Alpha.
I take all my clothes off and jump in fright when someone calls my name from behind.
I turn around to face a naked Jem who’s so gone in laughter.
She knows that deep down I’m scared.
I don’t want to be cast out and that’s going to happen if they find out I haven’t been able to communicate with my wolf for some time now, worse of all, I and can’t shift too!.
That alone will make them think that I’ve lost her. Jem holds my hand, noticing my distress.
I hear the cracking of Bones and I know that everyone else is shifting, then followed by howls.
The others run after the Alpha as he takes off.
“Accalia... think deep. focus on her” Jem says.
I shut my eyes, thinking about me in Esmee’s shape, the fun we had together, her favorite places.
Her earthly scent and warming smiles.
Accalia... Esmee faintly calls out my name.
Esmee, where the hell is you?!.”
Something is wrong. I sense it.
Then I feel a pinch at the back of my mind.
Esmee. I call out one more time.
I’m sorry, Accalia. I fought hard but I’m not that strong. let’s go for a run. I don’t want you to be cast out or let the others be suspicious. I can’t hold on for much longer. Esmee says after I felt her.
Wait, don’t go. what do you mean. who’s her?... I yell but it seems I’m too late.
She’s gone.
That’s what I think before I feel my bones breaking and taking on a new form. I’m shifting but this time it’s painful as if she’s struggling so much to come out.
My chest aches during the transformation.
I stand on all four paws and come face-to-face with Jem in her wolf Trixie’s form.
Esmee and Trixie both howl as Jem and I communicate with the mind-link.
“Let’s Join the others”
Trixie and Esmee let out playful howls while nipping at each other’s ears, enjoying each other's presence.
“As you wish, doll”
We both take off howling in unison. It’s been a long time since I let loose in this form so I heighten all my five senses, greedy to take in all the feels nature offers.
We can’t find the others so we just head to a nearby river.
We’re having fun, playing around, and smelling each other to imprint our scents in mind.
“Hey watch out” Jem mind-link me, causing me to turn to look at her, but is only welcomed with mud.
My white fur is now brown thanks to Trixie.
I scratch the earth with all paws, ready to attack when a scent hits me, followed by a howl, and this time, it isn’t any of our pack members.
It’s a male, its howl holds power and dominance.
An Alpha.
Jem and I lie low behind a big tree with unsteady heartbeats.
Something in me wants to run after the voice. What's another Alpha doing in our territory?.
That aside, my insides tingle to step out and run after the howls till I get to its own.
It's calling out to me and Esmee howls in response to it.
What are you doing?. We're gonna get into trouble. I warn but she doesn’t pay attention to me, eager to follow the voice but I compel her to stop.
I’m going to our mate.
Mate?.
That word leaves my thoughts swirling around.
She takes off, running towards the voice as our life pivots on it, with Jem following behind.
What are you doing?. Do you want to get killed or what?. Jem yells in my mind.
Ask Esmee. I don't even know what she's doing!.
She continues running at a fast pace I never knew she's capable of, escaping all the branches she comes across. My mind is blank. I can't think straight right now.
She stops and inhales trying to figure out where the scent has gone.
Esmee howl in frustration, twirling around like an insane wolf. She keeps howling that I can't even control her anymore making my headache.
Stop behaving this way. I yell at her.
She keeps howling and howling in distress and pain. I try calling her but to no avail.
We have five days more Accalia., I think it was him. She let howls of need and heartache out.
Trixie licks her face and fur, assuring her that everything's going to be okay.
Jem says nothing more as we make our way back, knowing well what took place.
*******
The Alpha and a few others have already returned when we arrive. At least we aren’t the only ones late.
We howl together as a pack when the others returned. This represents unity which is missing in this pack.
No offense.
Everyone is aware.
Taking our positions behind the trees where we left our clothes, we shift back. Jem and Nero are intensively looking at each other.
She's blushing.
Seriously, Jem!. You can't be eye f*****g right now. I scoff, earning her attention.
Hey!. Her face is all red now.
The Alpha glances at Nero and growls at Jem.
I frown.
What's his business in his son and a woman enjoying each other?
When he acknowledges my glare, he brush it off with a smile.
I wave at Nero and he waves back with a genuine smile. I walk to his side with Jem beside me.
"Hey, Nero" We share a brief hug.
Jem just waves at him and it takes forever.
"Long time" he says, smiling.
"Yep...you look good" I comment and he chuckles.
"You don't look bad yourself."
"Let's hang out sometimes, what do you think?. You, me and Jem" I suggest.
"Great...These pack stuff has been bugging me a lot" He let out a loud sigh, clarifying how much tired he is.
Mom is busily involved in a conversation with the Alpha and the luna.
She seems not to agree with whatever they’re saying. That’s when I realise again that Alpha Ulfred has his eyes fixed on mine.
"Shit... forgot to wear my shades again”
"Let’s go girls. I already said goodbye to them”
Mom says with a hint of annoyance in her tone.
Forcefully, she takes my hands and Jem’s before storming out of the Pack House. She didn't even let us say goodbye to Nero.
