Pack run 1

2308 Words
~ACCALIA ~ “Are we ever going to get there, mom?” A little bit annoyed, I inquire. We've been in the car for more than 45 minutes, and it’s frustrating. I’m in black ripped jeans matched with a grey cropped top, because Mum told me to wear something simple, along with some dark shades. We don’t want any curious eyes on me. Apart from Jem, no one in our pack has seen my original eye color since I wear contacts most of the time. For today, I hold my hair in a messy bun and wore a little make-up. Jem, like always, wears short white jeans that don’t reach her mid-thigh and a white fitting top, paired with a black jacket and heels. I wonder why she doesn’t hold her hair up today and did very little makeup. I glance at her to find her nervously kicking her legs. This girl is up to something. There's something fishy about her appearance and anxious attitude. If we were to be heading somewhere else, she would be singing out loud till we alight. I nip my tongue in confusion as I watch her, wondering if it’s all because of a man. If my guess turns out to be true, she’s so dead. I’m going to tease the life out of her. “In five minutes, dear” Mom answers not taking her eyes off the road. Not like we expect her to do so. She's not aware that I barely feel Esmee nowadays. I'll like to keep it that way. No need to get her too worried. Also, we’re currently not on good terms. She only nods whenever I tell her about the weird dreams I’ve been experiencing lately. Staring at Jem leaves me thirsty. I reach for my water bottle from my bag and stop mid-way when I feel a sharp pain in my stomach. My shades fall when the pain worsens, forcing me to bend down. The car stops when I howl in agony, drawing Jem’s attention. “You okay?” Mom and Jem ask in unison. Mom ties her blonde hair in a bun instantly before unbuckling her seat belt. “I...I don’t know!” “Accalia, Accalia, Accalia...” The voice keeps reciting my name over and over again, doubling the pain. I close my eyes and cover my ears hardly. If only it can diminish this pain and shut off the voice, I will press my hands harder till I bleed. My head starts to burn. The sweats roll down my face. I scream when it comes into contact with my skin. My own tears f*****g burn like fire. “I can’t...No, I can’t take it anymore. What are you doing to me? Leave me alone!” A pair of hands hold my shoulders firmly but I still can’t take it anymore. “Look at me Accalia” Jem shouts. Opening my eyes with my hands still covering my eyes, I do as she says. They both back away in fear at my action, leaving me confused despite my condition. The voice then leaves along with the pain it brought as their blank faces are still visible to me. “What’s wrong?... Jem?, Mom?” No one answers, both lost in thought. Mom clears her throat. “Your...Your eyes...they turned all black!” Jem says not sure of her own words. “What?. You are kidding me.” I chuckle while fixing myself as if nothing occurred. I drink the water feeling more thirsty with each gulp and fatigued. Mom stays silent. Her facial expression is unclear. She’s possibly communicating with her wolf. “Jem, forget this ever happened... we’re already late for the pack run” She mutters before starting the car. What's wrong with her? **** " The packhouse has undoubtedly gone through a transformation.” Jem enthusiastically says as we get out of the car. Her glossy eyes make it too evident she misses her. “It’s been like a year since I came here. I’ve missed home” She adds taking in a deep breath. This place doesn’t feel like home to me. It has to be the first place in my heart and any other werewolf’s but it doesn’t to me. How do you expect me to react when we left this place when I was five. My heart feels empty as I stand here. Mom says she and dad wanted a fresh start so they decided it’d be better if we leave among the humans for some time. A lot of werewolves live among humans. You just have to be careful not to be exposed for no reason or you’ll have to face the WERECOUNCIL. I’ve learned a lot concerning this council but have never been there. Jem tells me all since Mom refuses. The WERECOUNCIL was made a thousand years ago, or more. According to Jem, history says before werewolves, Vampires, Fairies, Mermaids, witches, Naiads, Faes and other creatures were created by Moon Goddess, other superior beings whose powers are on the same level as our creator lives with humans in a...let's say planet known to none. A Zombie-like species causes havoc among humans who possessed superpowers, destroying that entire race on one fateful day. Monroe DEvianne, the leader of the humans in that era couldn’t sit back and watch. He lost the only humans who possess special abilities. Moon Goddess, Cupid the God of love, and the other heavenly beings became disturbed. Primarily because they know not where these creatures came from. Monroe DEvianne confronted the heavenly beings. It was either they take care of this matter or he does. Not wanting to destroy the relationship existing between them and the humans, all the ten heavenly beings brought up a deal. They'll bring the Zombies into extinction in exchange that all humans will emigrate to Earth, for their safety. Before signing the blood contract (a contract of no return), Monroe made sure that all humans will forget heavenly beings ever existed with the help of a sorceress called Nat something....I’ve forgotten. Cupid brought up the WERECOUNCIL. Any creature in the future who reveals his or her authentic self to humans, whether by mistake or not will face the Council. That’s all I know for now. Moon Goddess created us and other creatures which many even I, believe they’re only myths. Whatever, let’s get back to the story. In every werewolf pack, there’s an Alpha, Beta, Delta, Healer, and Hunter. To protect the pack. The Alphas are the Wisest, Strongest, Highest ranking members. They hold absolute control over the pack members. The Alphas are responsible for leading the pack on hunts, establishing pack territory and its safety, accepting strangers into the pack, or driving errant wolves out of the pack. They are responsible for keeping the pack in order and control and will take many precautions to see that the pack is not disturbed. Each pack member is considered family but respect is still persistent. They tell the pack what to do, where to go, and how to work without questions from their members. Keeping things on a strict basis is their way of showing their care and concern for the pack-mates. Alpha wolves can also choose their most trusted companions to become their Betas. They demand respect and are in the position to punish or banish those who do not show it. An Alphas command can not be disobeyed without consequences. The Beta rank is the highest-ranking wolf in the pack just below the Alpha couple. The Beta wolf is essentially the second-in-command of the wolf pack and beyond this most significant point, the Beta is otherwise similar to wolves in the High rank. When the Alpha’s our absence, it is the Beta’s job to make sure the pack is organized and under control. Any problems that occur in the pack, the Betas report to the Alphas and allow the Alphas to take control. When the Alphas are indeed away for a time, these wolves are the next in authority and demand the same respect and control from their pack mates. The Delta is the third in command, they are below the Alphas and Betas but are higher up in the rankings than other wolves. Deltas usually take control of the spars and training when the Betas or Alphas are too busy to do so. They are also known as the peacemakers between them and other rival packs. Hunter is the fourth in command. They can either gather food or service for the pack or track down the ones that appear threatening. They mostly introduce their recruits to the Alphas to see whether or not other wolves can be accepted. They also protect the pack by fighting off enemies or predators. If there are ones that are threatening the pack, they take on the role of “decoys” till the pack has found safety. Once the coast is clear, they meet up with the pack hours later. Healers are the last in command. When someone is injured from a battle, fight, or accident, they are to be sent to the healer. They’re mostly called the pack doctors. Healers can either be gifted to heal another wolf or are good with medicine and looking after wolves. Funny right. I mean werewolves with powers. Our pack doctor has no powers. Healers stay out of pack fights as they are needed to heal, if there are no healers, the pack can slowly grow weak. “Accalia” Mom calls out my name. Jem moves out of here a year ago when she’s informed her parents died among the humans. She inherits all their companies making her wealthy. What bothers me is why she doesn’t tell me the second reason for moving out because she could have managed the companies from the packhouse. “We’re late. Let’s go” Mom says, annoyed. What’s with the mood swings?. The packhouse is huge indeed. We're left with about five minutes to reach the main gate. I can’t wait to see how Alpha Ulfred now looks. I smirk at my thoughts. The main door opens by itself when we reach there. I guess we’re indeed late. All eyes land on us when we enter. I’m strangely feeling nervous now I might pee in my pants. Jem and I walk behind Mom. I steal one look at our Alpha. He's still the same. I presume that’s because we have a long life span. We can live over 500 years but not more than a thousand years. The Luna, Vianne Hale, and his son, Nero hale sit near the Alpha. Nero has grown extremely handsome. He waves when he sees me. Nero, Jem, and I used to play together when we were kids and he's all grown up. He still got that shy attitude. His red-dyed hair fits him perfectly but for his attitude, I’d go for a blue dye. This dude is way too shy. He’s grown a lot of muscles. That's a plus. “Take a seat Chloe, Accalia and...Jem” Alpha Ulfred gestures to the couch in front of him. We do so. I sense the Alpha’s eyes on me. Mom engages in a long conversation with him leaving me and Jem alone. The other pack members were conversing too. Talking of Jem, she hasn’t said a word since we got here. She looks hysterical as she stares at a particular place. “Jem!” She jumps culpably. She seems distracted “What?!” She slyly says coming back to her senses and sending death glares my way. JEM’S P.O.V "I called you but you seem to be distracted. What are you thinking of?” Accalia asks raising her eyebrows at me. I can’t tell her. I hope she didn’t notice that I was staring at Nero. If she gets to know Alpha Ulfred wants Nero to reject me, she’ll get mad at him and I don’t want that to happen. He keeps telling me he won't do that. He's not going to reject me for an unknown reason and even if there was one, he still won't. Nero can't. “Nothing...”I answer, hiding that lie underneath a smile. She’s about saying something when a sound draws our attention. Alpha Ulfred stands with wine in his hands. “Attention please...” He commands and smiles. How I wish I could slap that smile from his face. My eye searches for my mate to find him already staring at me. f**k this mate bond. I feel all tingly inside. All I want right now is to be in his arms, giving him the best kiss of his life while my hands mess with his hair. He gives me a weak smile showing he wants nothing more than doing that with me too. But what’s stopping him?. Why is he rejecting me?. That thought even makes my wolf, Trixie, whimper. Accalia pinches me again. Shifting my gaze to her, I find her puzzled and worried and just shrug. " We’ve gathered here today for a pack run. It’s been a long time since we’ve had one. Also, I want to announce that I received a letter from the council. The Prime Alpha joined the dead last week.” Alpha Ulfred informs and bows his head in respect. We all follow his act. I know he’s just pretending to be sad. " He lived for a thousand years. ” He adds. “Therefore... The council has decided to select a new Alpha to take that position. Someone stronger and powerful among Alphas ” Everyone starts murmuring. “Silence” Everyone turns mute to his Alpha tone. I hate that I can’t resist that tone. " We’ll be going for the pack run in three minutes. I’m expecting everyone outside....you know where”
