Xander walked out of Blue Willow Hospital. He looked a bit pale but that after donating his blood, that was to be expected. As an orphan trying to survive in the university, poverty had become his roommate, and even though he was no longer in high school, bullying was part of his everyday life.
His foster parents had both died in an accident after dropping him off at the campus in his first year, leaving him to fend for himself in school. Even though he was on a scholarship, it wasn’t a full scholarship.
Recently, he had gotten so broke that his only hope was to donate his blood for some cash. In fact, he was doing it so often, it wasn’t even a donation anymore. He was basically selling his blood for money.
His phone rang as he tried to cross the street to make his way back to the campus. He looked at his phone and groaned in frustration the moment he saw who it was, Blondie, one of the guys at his dorm, and probably the worst bully he had ever had in his life.
He took a deep breath then answered the call. “Blondie, hey, what’s up?”
“Yo, X boy, where are you? You aren’t in your room.”
“I told you not to call me that anymore bro,” Xander exhaled in frustration.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever, just answer my question. Where are you?” Blondie replied.
“I step out to get something. What do you want?”
“I need you to get me some energy drinks. I’ll send you the money and you can get them on your way back.”
Xander frowned a bit, not because Blondie was ordering him about, he was already used to it, but because he could hear the voices of the other guys with Blondie.
“Hey Blondie, why is this Xander dude always running errands for you guys? Do you have some dirt on him or something?”
“Dirt? Nah, that kid is as clean as a whistle,” Blondie replied. “He’s just a broke ass dummy that would do almost anything for money," he added, ignoring the fact that Xander was still on the phone.
Xander felt embarrassed by what he had heard, but it was true so… he just let it go.
“When are you sending me the money?” Xander quickly called Blondie’s attention before he started another discussion and forgets the call. “Or am I supposed to buy it then you’ll refund me later?”
“Yeah, do that, I’ll pay you back later.”
“No, don’t go,” the dormitory’s head yelled out hearing what Blondie said. “If you need cash, you can always borrow some from me and pay back later.”
Xander smiled a little bit hearing that someone was actually worried about him, but he knew he couldn’t agree with the dorm head. He always ran errands for Blondie because Blondie always tipped him for every errand.
‘Since I am going to be using my money to pay first, the tip will be bigger this time, and I can use it to get some noodles or something to get through today so I don’t have to spend the money for the blood I just sold,’ he made a quick calculation in his head.
He didn’t enjoy running errands for people, worst of all Blondie, but he needed the money that came with the errands to survive.
He was lucky to have been in the school in the first place. It wasn’t a full scholarship that took care of everything for him, but at least he was not going to be worrying about school fees and student debts after graduating.
He had been lucky to have nice roommates at the dorm, but the more they helped him out with money, the less he wanted their help. He knew if he continued borrowing from them, they would soon start to see him as a burden, and that would end their friendship.
Other than his roommates, Xander had almost nothing left at the school.
“Hey, are you sending Xander on an errand?” another voice came through the phone, snapping Xander back to reality.
He heard the voice and recognized it immediately. It was Matt, the only other bully worse than Blondie.
Matt was tall and handsome, and his parents ran a factory, so he was quite rich and very popular with the ladies at campus, and that made him even more cruel to Xander. As far as he was concerned, Xander didn’t deserve to be in the same school as him. He was too poor for his liking.
“Yeah, I just need him to get me some drinks on his way back,” Blondie answered Matt.
“Perfect timing. Tell him to get a pack of condoms as well. A friend of mine is at the East Grove today, I will send him the location to deliver it to,” Matt said with authority.
“Xander, you heard that right? Get all that, we’ll refund you once you get back.”
“Sure.”
Xander ended the call with a sigh. He hated when they made him get condoms, and they always did, and in large quantities. If not that the store he got them from had understood that he was always sent on errands, they’d have been judging him by now for coming to school for s*x instead of his studies.
He turned to get the condoms from the hospital but changed his mind.
‘If those nurses find me trying to buy condoms after the blood donation I just had, I will not hear the last of it,’ he laughed at himself and walked off to the store.
East Grove was just outside the campus, it was a famous place for couples to go to when they wanted to have s*x, so he didn’t have any issues finding it.
He walked straight to the spot Matt had told him to go, and there was a couple sitting there talking and laughing. It was already getting a little dark, so he barely saw their faces from afar, but the voice was a little too familiar.
Xander’s body trembled as he got closer and saw the face, and his ears were not deceiving him. It was her.
His vision blurred for a moment and the condos in his hand fell to the ground from the shock.
The woman on the bench, Jasmine, was Xander’s ex.
