Love Amidst Trails

Cassie Baron went to look for a job at Ariana's Agricultural Company as the Managing Director since that was the vacancy. It was a hot and sunny day, the kids were on summer vacation and this gave the opportunity to Cassie to leave their sick mother with her sister Marina. A day before the interview, Cassie's mom advised her so much on what to do and what not to do. Getting to the company, Cassie raised her head up and examined the tall glass building. “Good morning Miss. Are you looking for someone?” a voice said from behind. Cassie turned to look at the person who was talking, it was the security officer in charge of the company that was standing there. Cassie with fear draining down her spine replied,“Sir, I never meant to do it. I, I, I am coming for a job interview with Mr Kevin and I just stopped to admire this beautiful building. I'm sorry sir.” Without much thought, she dashed out of sight, when she entered the company, she was swayed by the way the staffs were moving up and down without making much noise, everybody looked very serious. ‘I don't think I can be as serious as this. What if I'm not able to do it? Oh no, mommy said I can do it.’ Cassie thought to herself. As she was staring at them, she felt a hand poking her, she turned only to find a lady with an oversized spectacle frowning at her. “Young lady, why are you standing here idle, don't you have anything to do?” the lady asked. “Well, ma'am, I, I…” Cassie tried to explain but she cut in, “Take this document and check it well, since we are yet to employ a Managing Director, put yourself there and do the work for me. There is an empty desk behind Craig's desk, you can sit there and do the work.” The lady walked away without listening to what she had to say. Cassie went to sit at her desk, looking through the documents, she found some mistakes, so she took a new paper and reorganized the documents. She went to print it out, and came back to sit back at her new desk. As she was checking the rest of the documents, Kevin Puck walked in, everybody stood up to greet him but Cassie didn't because she was lost in the work she was doing. Kevin didn't realize it but as he was going to his office, since Cassie forgot to put her phone on silent, it rang which drew everyone's attention. “Sorry everyone, it's just a mistake, it's my sister, I guess something's wrong in the house.” She answered but before she could talk, Kevin walked to her, grabbed the phone and threw it on the floor. “In my office, we don't use the phone when there is work to be done. Your first offense is not greeting me and secondly, you tried to use the phone not even behind me, right in front of me. You've got some nerves ha? Who are you anyway, who employed you? Answer me when I'm talking to you.” “I'm sorry sir but nobody employed me. I am supposed to come for an interview today but when I came in, a lady gave me a work to do, before I could tell her that I am yet to be employed, she left and I had to do the work.” Cassie explained herself in a tiny voice as if she was about to cry. “So you mean to tell me that, you are not a staff of this company and you are comfortably disobeying everything.Go to where you are expected to be, leave everything and ran there before I change my mood this morning.” Without much thought, Cassie ran to sit at the entrance with the others who were also in for the interview. Cassie couldn't control her emotions, she excused herself and went to the washroom, she sat down and dropped her tears one after the other. “How would I face him now? Look at how he disgraced me in front of those people, how would I face them if I start working with them.” Cassie thought. She then remembered her mom's words, wiped her tears, dressed her face and went to sit back. One after the other, they went to the room to be interviewed. Cassie was very anxious and worried because Kevin already hates her for the incident that occurred. She lost hope in the interview, so she took her bag and turned to leave. “I hope you had a great interview dear.” Mrs Baron carped softly from behind on her sick bed. Cassie suddenly broke into tears and laid her head on her mom. “It was very bad mom, everything was just so embarrassing so I ran off without going for the interview. I was too afraid, you know I would never disobey someone intentionally right?” Cassie sobbed. Her mom placed her hand on her back and said,“Dear, calm down and tell me everything that happened from the beginning to the end.” Cassie explained to her mom all that happened in the company. “Oh dear, that is why you are sad. Who knows what could have happened? Maybe he would not have done anything, he would maybe have employed you because of your experience and everything. I know first impressions always matter but who knows what would have happened after that incident? Where is your CV? Show me your CV.” As she pulled out her hands to pick up the document, she realized she left it. She stood up to go look for it, when she got to the company, she realized her CV was not there anymore but when she turned to leave, “Looking for something?” a voice said from behind. She turned and met Kevin with her CV in his hands. ‘Why should he have my CV with him? What has he done to it? Did he like it or not?’ This was how the questions were popping into her head.
