Chapter 14

Davina I was starting a new week here at work. Things were starting to fall into place. I felt pretty confident in my position here and Itze made things fun. I can tell she was enjoying herself more and I take it Kevin was the result of that. I sat my things down and looked at emails and everyone’s calendars. I took down some messages and sent out some emails of prospective people looking into our programs. Suddenly, a deep voice came up and asked me a question. “Excuse me, I am here to meet Malcolm Perry at 9:00.” I looked up unaware that there was someone standing in front of me, since I did not hear the door open. I began to stare at the most beautiful man I have ever laid my eyes on. He was tall, built like a mountain and had those emerald, green eyes. His copper brown hair was on top but was buzzed cut on the sides. He wore a suit that looked expensive and, just by looks alone, he seemed like money. “Oh!...Um…Sorry, I don’t have anything on his calendar. What was your name again?” I asked while dropping my pen. “My name is Evan, Evan Blackwood.” God, his voice feels like it’s caressing my skin. I am so in awe of him, but I’m struggling to find his appointment that he’s speaking of. “Oh okay, let me go get him real quick.” I got up, almost tripping out of my seat. Geez Davina, get it together! I made my way to his office and knocked on the door frame. “Malcolm, there is Evan Blackwood that is here to see you?” “Shoot! I completely forgot. Send him in.” I walked back to this gorgeous stranger. “If you would like to follow me, I can direct you over.” He stared at me so intensely that I had to break eye contact and look at the floor. I guided him over to Malcolm’s office. “What’s your name?” He asked. “Umm…Davina.” “Thank you for helping me, Davina.” He said while smirking at me. He then closed the door and ran to my office space, running into Itze with an open mouth. “Beauty from the Gods, who was that man that was fine as wine?” “I don’t know, his name is Evan. I didn’t even know he had a scheduled appointment with Malcolm and for some reason, he made me feel so uncomfortable.” “Like creeper status?” “No more like he’s so good looking that it was making me feel insecure.” “Don’t ever feel like that with guys. For some reason, they tend to take advantage or it’s a turn off.” “Not like it matters, I looked like an i***t not finding the words and almost falling into Malcolm’s office.” We both laughed. Evan “Mate”, Titus said in my mind. No. No. Not again. My last mate died. Miranda with our child that was in her womb. I said I would never be with anyone again. The odd thing I noticed was she didn’t have a scent. I wasn’t suffocating with a smell that defined her, so how would Titus believe that she was our mate? She was beautiful but it held in her eyes that she was hurt somewhere. Titus growled, growing possessive of our mate, wanting to kill someone who may have caused her pain. I can’t do this. I can’t love again. Seeing her walk over to the office, I could not help seeing her figure. I do not know if she purposely wears loose clothing to hide herself, but you can see a bit that she has an amazing figure. Walking me over, I wanted to touch her to get the sensation feeling you have when touching your mate, but she made it clear that she was nervous. “Ask for her name?” Titus said. “What’s your name?” “Umm…Davina.” Davina? Why do I feel like I know that from somewhere? “Thank you for helping me, Davina.” I said, loving the feeling of how her name rolled off me. I shook hands with Malcolm as we give some small talk. “Well, I want to first thank you for taking the time from your busy schedule to come down and meet with me. I wanted to see…” “Malcolm, to start, just be blunt with me. What is your objective in crossing paths with me?” “I know about Clear Lake and I am aware of your being. I want to implement a program that can benefit both of us. I briefly spoke to someone years ago about a program that can help your tribe get into a career-focused education that will benefit not only themselves, but also your business-so it can stay within tribal.” “So you are aware of the power that I possess. What makes you think you have something I wanted from the start?” I said while changing my eye color from green to red, allowing Titus to come to the surface. Malcolm gulped and squirmed in his chair. “I understand that Blackwood Enterprises are looking to further themselves to other locations that can possibly lead to business overseas. If I implement a program that helps your people, I can begin looking into other locations that are close to border packs that will then begin the transition into a new era of werewolves ruling.” “How do you believe that the other packs will follow?” “Being the biggest pack in the state, starting the idea and new customs can lead others to follow in your footsteps.” He has a point. Clear Lake was the biggest and we had the most resources. “Alright, there will be some changes made, but I don’t see much of a problem. You have a deal.” I reached out and he shook my hand enthusiastically. I do want to continue the vision Miranda had all those years ago but, I mainly invested being that I was eager to see Davina much more. I finally drove home after a week of travelling to different locations. The one thing I had to do, I had to see Miranda. I made my way to the willow tree that was next to the lake. I specifically had a bench made to have a seat while I spoke to her grave. I read the wording on her headstone. “Here lies Luna & heir of the Clear Lake. Miranda & Elijah Blackwood. Life is not forever, but love is…” I bent down to clear the area of any debris and sat on the bench. I cleared my throat trying to form the words. “Sweetheart, I have a second chance, mate. And I do not know what I am supposed to do.” The breeze flowed through, listening to leaves dance together. I decided to add windchimes, being that it would give me comfort thinking that this was her special way of speaking with me. “I don’t think I can have this. I will be letting you and Elijah go and I can’t do that.” I whimpered out, tears flooding my eyes. How am I allowed to have someone else when my love has been taken away? She was my everything and I knew that she was bearing my child. That future is forever unknown and gone. I cannot stomach to go through this again. I was barely able to survive what happened to her. “I don’t want to lose you anymore than what I have already lost.” I cried to her. The wind picked up and I felt a sense of comfort. There was a warm sensation flowing around me and it gave me the feeling of a hug. I felt like Miranda was giving me this sign that it was okay and it was now my time to be happy again. Listening to the windchimes, I took a deep breath and smelled the caramel essence. That was Miranda’s scent. “Even in death sweetheart, you are still the most selfless person I knew, and this world did not deserve you.”
