I broke my cousin's neck

712 Words
I was sitting in my room. It had been two days since I had seen Erica. I couldn't sleep. I was worried about her. I hoped Matteo didn't hurt her. I hadn't told Henrik what had happened, so he didn't know anything and was worried about Erica, too. "Are you going to tell him?" June asked as she entered the room. "What do you mean?" I didn't understand her. "Erica. You haven't said anything to Henrik yet." "How do you know?" "Because I'm June. The biggest gossip ever. I also know where Erica is. I know Matteo swore to make your life miserable. I know about you and Erica. Typical of the youngest child, right?" "You know where is Erica?" "Of course I do." "Where is she?" "I can take you there if you want." "Yes, I want, but first, explain something to me. Me and Erica? There is nothing between us." "Oh, don't pretend in front of me. It can be seen for kilometres. You are in love with her." "That doesn't mean she likes me either. And when did you ever see us together?" "First, gossip never reveals her secrets. We may not keep other people's secrets, but we do not tell our own secrets to anyone. And second, I saw how she look at you. She may not be in love with you, but she trusts you. This is a good start. The hardest thing is to make a girl believe you. From there, everything is easy." June led me to the place. There was a huge old house, in the middle of a forest, outside our small town. "You coming?" I asked June. "I'm not sure." "Are you scared?" I asked mockingly. "We're not sure what we can find inside except Erica, stupid." "We'll find out." "All right, I'm coming. But if I die, write on my tombstone that you're to blame for my death." "I will do it with pride." We went inside the house. It was dark, cold and dirty. "Are you sure Erica is here?" "Yes, but I'm not sure it's just Erica." "Why?" June pointed to a room with light coming from. The door opened imperceptibly. "June, run," I whispered to her. We went up to the second floor and entered a room. I think it was a bedroom. "Was that Matteo?" "I don't know. Stay here." I said. "Where are you going? What if he kills you?" "I won't hide like a mouse." "So I'm coming too." "No, you could get hurt." "You, seriously need to sleep. I am the personification of evil. Nothing will happen to me." "If you say so, fine." We went down to the first floor. I heard footsteps but saw no one. "To split? We'll find Erica faster." I suggested. "By no means. Haven't you watch scary movies?" "The incarnation of evil seems scared." "Very funny." "Okay, suggest to me where to go, because I feel weird when we're not walking." "Who's the coward now? Look, some stairs are leading down. Erica will probably be there." We went down the stairs. We found ourselves in something like a basement. And it was no less scary than the first and second floors. There were cobwebs and it was dark. The whole basement was filled with a deafening female scream. "Erica screams like that. I know it from personal experience." I tried to ignore what June had said. We both walked to where the scream was coming from. Matteo had a knife on Erica's neck. There was a lot of blood. I hope it wasn't hers. Before I could react, June had taken matters into her own hands. "Leave her alone, you jerk," she ordered. June pushed Mateo against the wall and took the knife from his hand. I approached Erica. Poor girl, she was all wounded. "Cole!" Erica hugged me. I was so glad she was alive. "Cole, forget about me pretty quickly. Mateo will kill me in exactly five seconds. Get up your ass and help me!" I got up and broke Matteo's neck as quickly as possible. Matteo was not dead, but we had plenty of time to escape. As I said before the death was never a severe punishment for our family.
