June loves to scare people
"Will you get up or sit in bed all day, Cole?" my sister asked impudently.
"It's Saturday. Tell me a reason to get up so early?"
"It's not early at all. It's noon."
Before I continue with the story I will quickly introduce myself. My name is Cole, as you already know because of my annoying little sister. I am two hundred and seventy-nine years old. Yes, I think you guessed it - I'm a vampire. Almost my entire family are bloodsuckers.
I guess you want to know at least a little about my family. My eldest brother is Alexander. He is two hundred and eighty-three years old. Hazel, she is two hundred and eighty-two years old. Henrik - at two hundred and seventy - nine, he is my twin brother and remained June, the youngest and most annoying of all. She is two hundred and seventy-one years old. Our parents are dead. Our mother died when I was eight, shortly after June was born. And our father died thirteen years ago. Yeah, he was vampire, too.
We're all vampires except Hazel. She's ... I'm not sure. She doesn't grow old, just like us, but she doesn't drink blood, the sun doesn't irritate her eyes and skin, she's not as fast as us, and she has no desire to kill. Anyways. No one in our family is worried about that. She's used to us killing and we're not inclined to hurt her. It sounds like we love each other a lot and never fight. It's not exactly like that. There is at least one dispute every day. It's like our tradition.
If I had to choose a beloved sibling, I would choose Hazel. Although not a vampire, she is the least annoying of all. She doesn't treat us like monsters, she's funny, she cares about our family and she understands a lot of emotions. Something only girls are good at.
We all have black hair and green eyes, except June. She has bright blue eyes.
And no matter how cute June looked, because of her beautiful blue eyes, her sweet smile, and the freckles around her nose, you shouldn't be attached to her. Beneath this beautiful face hides a cruel devil who rejoiced in another's pain. I'm just warning you not to fall in love with her.
"Get up before I hit you with the first thing I see."
"Do whatever you want. I won't get up, especially if you're alive. I have absolutely no desire to see you."
"Oh, you think this is a joke? Okay. Keep sleeping and see if you ever wake up again."
"Chill, I'm not sleeping. As you can see. What do you want?"
" Money. "
"Nope."
"Give me money!"
Henrik entered the room
"Hey, what the hell is going on here?" he asked confused.
"I need money," June explained.
"Get a job. Oh, no, wait. Nobody hires devils." I made fun of her.
Henrik gave her enough money not to harass him. I am not stingy, just I like to tease June. It's funny.
Hazel screamed from the other room. More than two hundred years have passed and she still can't understand that we hear her loud enough without shouting.
Erica was at the door. Henrik's girlfriend. My brother pretends to be a normal eighteen-year-old student. I don't know what he liked about that.
He invited her in.
Erica had beautiful blue eyes, long, straight brown hair, and an angelic smile. Erica was a sweet, eighteen-year-old student. She was an angel. I wondered how she would react when Henrik told her what we are.
I put on a black T-shirt and went to the living room.
"Hi, Cole." Erica, who was sitting on the sofa, greeted me.
"Good morning, Erica."
"It's noon. "
"It's morning for me. "
“Where’s Alex?” I asked Henrik.
"I do not know. He wasn't home when I woke up."
I went to Hazel, who was doing some math exercises in her room. One pretends to be a student, another a mathematician... Bloody hell.
"Why do you solve math exercises? You are not fifteen years old."
"You know I like math."
"Well, I like to kill, but I don't."
"You're not doing it right now. In principle, you do it. And my hobby does not hurt anyone, unlike yours."
"Your hobby hurts my brain cells."
" You don't need it anyway. Anyways. Do you want something to eat?"
"Yes, but I don't believe you want to rob a hospital blood supply, so I'll say no. Not to mention that I prefer fresh blood."
She left the room. Probably to get food. During this time, I examined her notebook. Numbers, letters, scribbles, torn pages. Obviously, to be a mathematician you need a lot of nerves.
There was a loud female scream coming from the living room. Either it came from Erica or Hazel. I ran to where the scream was coming from.
"What was that scream?" I asked.
"June, you're dead!" Henrik looked at her with a murderous look.
That was enough for me. Apparently, June scared Erica in some way. I went outside to talk to her. I suspected she had seen something that affected us all.
And as I expected, I was right.
"Erica? What happened? Are you okay?"
"Yeah, just ... All this came to me in more. Bye and sorry for the inconvenience."
"You can talk to me. I will not judge you. It's hardly worse than what I think happened."
"Are you sure?"
"Did you want to tell me what happened?"
"I'm not sure what I saw. It was ...."
"Scary?"
"Unreal. It was unreal. Your sister's eyes ... Forget it, it's probably from lack of sleep. Bye."
"My sister's eyes what? Have they turned red?"
"Bloody red. How do you know?"
"What else did you see?"
"Teeth. Sharp canine teeth. They were like ... like the vampire's teeth in the movies. It was probably a joke, but ... it seemed too real."
Just to mention that I'm aware that it's not very right to tell her the truth, but she already knows it, she just doesn't want to believe it. I'm just going to support her so she doesn't think she's crazy for something she's right about.
"Look, I know it's going to sound crazy, but it's true. You don't have to believe me, but it's good to know the truth because the world has many surprises. Nobody knows when and what will happen. We, me, June, Alex and even Henrik are some of the creatures of darkness. Vampires. What you saw was June as a vampire."
"No, it's not possible. Vampires? I said June's teeth look like vampire's, but as far as I know, some people are born with some slightly sharper and longer teeth."
"And how many of these people are born with a thirst for blood? "
"Well, if you're a vampire, prove it."
"I'm not sure you're ready to take this horror. From here I hear your heart quicken with every word I say. You are afraid. You try to hide it, but the heart never lies."
"Vampires don't exist, Cole. I don't know what drugs you take, but you better stop them."
"You still think it's all just a joke, don't you? Okay, fine. Since you are so stubborn, I will prove to you that vampires exist."
I didn't want to do it. Not because I didn't want to scare her even more. Yes, I didn't want to stress her out, but the main problem was that to prove it, she had to see me as a vampire. To see my dark side. To see her, however, I have to think about blood. If I do, I get hungry, and if I'm hungry ... I get out of control. I didn't want to kill her. But still, I did it. I proved it to her. My eyes turned bloody red, my canine teeth sharpened, my veins bulge and blackened, I felt like a predator. I felt the vampire power again.
"Now do you believe or you are the drugged now?"
Erica didn't answer. Her angelic blue eyes were directed straight at mine. I hadn't realised that blue could be such hot fire until I saw those eyes. It was as if the angel and the devil were looking at each other. Erica was trembling with fear.
"So ... vampires are real. And your whole family are killers. Even Henrik. And he didn't tell me. Why?
"Well, it's not very easy to tell anyone about it. It's like leaving yourself in the hands of the person you told because he already knows the secret that costs you your life."
"But you told me your secret, even though you barely know me. If you can do it, Henrik should be able to tell me, too."
"He was probably afraid of losing you if he told you. It is not easy to tell such a secret, no matter how close you are to each other. Even if he is ready to tell you, the next question comes. How will you bear it? It is not easy for you either. Here, you found out about the vampires and you're already sorry you made me prove it to you that they exist."
"How many are you?"
"What?"
"You had said that you were one of the creatures of darkness. Who are the others?"
" Werewolves, but existed about a hundred years ago. And witches that existed until about seventy years ago. They are the first creatures of darkness. They have existed for over nine thousand years, but are no longer as common and are rarely as strong as before."
"What happened to them?"
"The witches made the werewolves of mistake. They confused magic and created the first werewolf. At first, he looked normal, but a few seconds later he turned into a wolf. They decided not to kill him. It wasn't long before the witches were surprised to find that he was making an army. A pack. They multiplied and became more and more. Witches, no matter how strong, had no chance of winning if they started a war because with each passing day they became stronger, faster and smarter. That's why they created vampires. They were originally created as a werewolf company. Something like different races. They created them to have diversity. They were supposed to be just fast, strong people with hearing, but something had turned around, again. The werewolves decided to break the spell of the witches and the vampires became bloodthirsty creatures. Everyone understood each other and had a good time until ordinary people were born. This began after six thousand nine hundred years of understanding between everyone. Then the vampires and werewolves quarrelled with the people and declared war. Witches, to stop the constant killing of humans, made werewolves and vampires enemies by making the sun weak for vampires, burning their skin and irritating their eyesight, and the werewolves the moon. By making the transformation much more painful. Their bones would have to break one by one for hours if you killed someone. When people stayed the most, they killed the werewolves. Thirty years later, the witches were killed. Now it's time to kill the vampires. "
"Who were the strongest?"
"The witches. Insidious, powerful, cunning creatures. We, vampires, are the weakest."
"How did you become a vampire? Is that how you were born?"
"The less you know, the better for you."
"Cole, I want to know. What if a vampire attacks me tomorrow? I will not know how to defend myself. You start telling a story, tell it all !"
"No, Erica. Even if I tell you, they are vampires. You have no chance against them. You can't defeat a ten-year-old kid in a fight, and you want to defeat a vampire. It won't happen."
"Why do you think so? The fact that I respect and do not hurt people doesn't make me weak. I have a lot of sins, believe me."
"All right, say one of your sins. Say something wrong you've ever done."
"You think I'm a good person, right? Like everyone else. We, humans, are like the moon, only one side of us is always visible."
"Yeah, I think you're a good girl. I can't believe you have any sins. You don't even drink. You don't smoke, you don't curse, I'm sure you don't have bad grades at school."
"Even a white rose has a black shadow...Okay, you told your secret, so I'll tell you mine. I suffer from a genetic disease called CHD13. It is better known as serial killer genes. Problems with anger, depression, desire to kill, self-harm, problems with trust. And before you asked, no, I didn't kill anyone. For now. But I tried. The girl was taken to hospital and survived. She was lucky."
"Since it is a genetic disease, who else in your family suffers from this disease as well?" I asked curiously.
"My biological father. He was arrested when I was five, three years later he was released and after a week a man shot him. In front of my eyes."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that."
"It was five years ago. It's been a long time since then. Now it's your turn. How did you become a vampire?"
"I was twenty-one years old. I remember a stranger drinking from my blood, then breaking my neck. I woke up at home on my bed. My father was sitting next to me. I was confused, but I was glad to be alive. I perfectly remember my father's stern look. He didn't want me alive. In a disappointed and angry voice, he informed me that I was already one of them, without mentioning which ones. He didn't want me at home anymore. The next day I began to feel the change little by little. After about a week, I was fully aware of what had happened. Then I realized why he had kicked Alex out. It wasn't long before all of us became vampires, except Hazel. My father had contacted a witch to protect Hazel from the misfortunes that befell us, but she also became immortal. At least she managed to keep a little of her humanity, unlike everyone else."
"Wait wait. If you were bitten at the age of twenty-one, how is it possible your twin brother to be eighteen years old?" Erica asked suspiciously.
" He's two hundred and seventy-nine years old, darling. Am I a liar or your boyfriend?"
" Never call me that again! "
" Why not? Are you afraid you might fall in love with me?"
"No, I just don't like you calling me that because I have a boyfriend and you know that."
"Oh, yeah. The boy who lied to you about his age and what he really is. Although you've been dating for more than two years. I bet he didn't tell you what happened to your best friend. Henrik killed him. His name was Oliver, right?"
A tear flowed from Erica's eye. She wiped quickly with her hand. Only now did I realize how nasty what I told her was. But it was still true. What a fool I am.
"Why did you tell me that? I was much better off before I knew it. Asshole!"
Yes, I agree with Erica. It sucked. Too bad vampires can't turn back time.
Erica slapped me and headed for them. As much as I wanted to stop the blow and break her fingers, as I would normally do, I let her hit me. She's a girl. A serial killer girl, but she's still a girl.
I still couldn't believe Erica was trying to kill someone. Does not matter. She remains an angel again. She will just be a killer angel
