Cassie stormed down the hallway, her mind racing. She needed space—needed to breathe. But no matter how fast she walked, the weight in her chest didn’t lift. Elisia was gone. She yanked open the door to her sister’s bedroom without thinking. The room was nearly empty. Most of the shelves were bare, the closet half-open and hollow. Only a few stray items remained—a forgotten scarf draped over the chair, a book left behind on the nightstand. Cassie’s eyes landed on the bed, where a single envelope sat. Her name was written on the front in Elisia’s handwriting. Her heart skipped. Slowly, she stepped forward, hesitating only a second before picking it up.
