Chapter Six: Overstepping Boundaries

3656 Words
When Brian got home he found Olivia waiting up for him in the master bedroom. It was a long day and he really didn’t have much energy to give a full blown recap to his wife. He was coming off from so many mixed emotions. First he had the date from hell. Only to be followed up with one that couldn’t have gone any better. “Maybe she won’t ask,” he hoped. He honestly just wanted to go to sleep after the long day. That wasn’t about to happen though, he soon realized. Olivia was slightly annoyed that Brian came wandering in and didn’t immediately divulge everything to her. She was his wife after all, and she had given him consent to spend the whole day with two other woman who were not herself. “He should be grateful,” Olivia felt justified with her emotions! Olivia’s emotions began to fester even more each moment that she thought about his lack of concern for her feelings. "How did it go," she asked, as she fingered through her People magazine casually? "You were gone forever, it seemed," she noted to him cooley. "I know, Babe," he got undressed down to his boxers, climbed into bed, and kissed her cheek. "I'm sorry for that. The conversation with Bianca just flowed so well, Liv. We lost track of time. Then, when we were done, I drove her home because she had walked there," he admitted. “I see.” “It was a very long day, Babe. I am emotionally exhausted,” he tried to end the conversation. "She does own a car, right," Olivia continued on and ignoring his cues? "Yes, but she didn't have money for gas. I felt bad for her...so I bought gas to fill her car," he explained. "Oh, Brian, your heart is as big as they come," she leaned over and snuggled him immediately forgiving him for not initially confessing. "I love you!" "You know that and I love you, Mrs. Stanton," he kissed her passionately! The kiss was amazing. Neither lacked in that department. Brian engulfed her lips with his as she nibbled at his playfully. "So do you feel 100 percent confident in Bianca," Olivia asked? She wasn’t quite sure how she wanted him to answer. Certainly she wanted him to agree to hire Bianca, but she was also feeling a little jealous. This was new for her. Nervously, Brian broke the news to his Wife. He leaned over and grabbed her hand. “I am as confident in Bianca, Liv, as I would be in anyone," Brian explained to his wife! Brian felt good that he didn’t have to lie to her. If he had to go through this whole ordeal to get a family, Bianca would indeed be the ideal candidate. He just still didn’t want to hurt Olivia’s feelings. This news pleased Olivia. They were one step closer in the process that would appease her husband’s need for a family. "Good. It's settled then! I'll message her and let her know," Olivia started to grab for her cell. "I already told her, Babe! Brian grabbed for her hand. “I told her to give her two weeks' notice and that we'd be in touch about the rest," he stated quietly as he noticed the scoul lines begin to form on her forehead. Olivia went radio silent and pulled her hand away quickly. She had become cold. "Was that over-stepping," he asked cautiously? He didn’t quite understand what the problem was. She was the one that wanted this, not him. Olivia began to feel her blood boil with both anger and a bit of jealousy. She had to admit that she rarely got jealous because she was so confident in herself. She knew she had to choose her words wisely. “Well...I just hoped that we'd make the final decision together," she admitted while trying to keep her emotions in check. Brian ran his hand over his face now realizing the error of his ways. "I know, Babe. It's just that we both talked about Sophia, and I just assumed she was the only other option," he added honestly. “I’m sorry.” "Well, technically, at that moment, she is. I just wanted to tell her together is all. It's okay," she said as she turned away from her husband, a little hurt by his eagerness to hire Bianca. "I'm sorry, Liv! Really!! This whole thing is muddy. Nothing is clear. I don't know what to say or do anymore," he raised his voice. "Just have babies with me, and we won't have to go through these hoops," he added even louder! Liv looked at him in shock. Anger then leaked upon her and she could feel her fists begin to form. In that moment she wanted to punch something, anything, she just needed to release her aggression. "That's not happening, Brian, and you know it! "If you want babies, then we'll just need to do our best to communicate better," she said coldly! Brian should have expected this. He knew she wouldn’t budge at all on the topic. It was a no win situation for him and he was just wasting his breath. Olivia rolled back over the other direction, put away her magazine, and went to sleep, cutting the conversation off fully. She felt no need to discuss the nonsense any further. Brian, speechless and feeling guilty, picked up his pillow and went and slept in the only other bedroom that evening that was set up on the grounds..Bianca's future bedroom in the guest house. He wasn't about to deal with the tension that he would have if he stayed in his own bedroom. No, he needed his space. For that evening, he did not want to see Olivia. The guest house bedroom was nice. It was adequate size for a queen size bed, a bureau, and a desk with a swivel chair. “It was bright and cheerful... a perfect place for Bianca,” he thought about the future. She was a sweet girl. They were lucky to find her, he knew. And with that thought, Brian curled up in the guest house bedroom for the night. .......... The next morning, Brian woke up earlier than normal, probably from the fight with his wife that weighed heavily on his mind. He had though surprisingly slept well. So, he went into his office and began working, as he always did after getting up in the morning. About an hour later, Olivia woke, surprised that her husband wasn't sleeping next to her. She immediately began to panic. “Had I gone too far? Was I really that wrong, though,” she wondered? She didn't want to know, honestly. She just wanted to fix it. So she hurried up and showered and made her way to his office. She knew he would likely be there, given the time. Walking past his office, she saw him working on the laptop, a bit relieved. She immediately went back, crept in, and wrapped her arms around his neck. She then leaned in and kissed his neck softly. “I’m sorry, Love! I know I said that we needed to communicate better, and then I left the discussion. That is just the opposite! I was wrong! Forgive me," she pleaded as she squeeze him tighter. Brian swiveled his chair around to face his wife. He could tell that she was hurting, as was he. Brian then leaned forward and grabbed hold of her waist tightlywith a big bear hug. “Thank you; I’m Im sorry too, my Love!" "It's okay, I know you meant well," she sat down on his lap. "I hated to think of you all alone down here on one of the couches last night," she looked over at the couch in his office, expecting to find his pillow. Surprised, she saw nothing of the sort. "I didn't sleep on any couch last night, Liv. I knew I would have woken up sore if I had," he added. "So where did you sleep," she looked confused? "In the guest house, of course," he explained. "The guest house," she reiterated, confused, which then turned into annoyance. "Well, yeah," Brian said confidently. "But that will be her room," Olivia sought out answers. "I'm aware. It was comfortable, too," Brian added. "Well, don't get too comfortable there. You won't be sleeping there again," she said firmly! "Of course not," he agreed. “I only want to sleep with you,” he hugged her tighter. “You had better!” “Promise,” Olivia asked? “I promise, Liv! You have absolutely nothing to worry about,” he honestly assured her. In the back of his mind thoughts, he hoped that he wasn’t lying to his wife. He would like nothing more than to feel this way forever. ……………… One week later, Brian rushed to answer the door. To his surprise, Bianca stood before him. “Bianca?” “What could she be doing here,” he wondered curiously. “Um, hi. I hope I am not interrupting. I was hoping to speak with you and your wife.” “Of course not, please come in!” Brian gestured her towards the sitting room off the entry way. He stared at her a moment as he could tell just how nervous she was. He noticed that she was now fidgeting with her long beautiful hair. Her nervousness now made him a little uneasy. “So, how are you?” Bianca looked around. The house was beautiful. Even more beautiful than the guest house. Everything was perfectly situated. She had always dreamed of living in a place like this. But now.. “I’m okay. Thank you. How have you been?” Brian appreciated the pleasantries as much as anyone else but in that moment he more so wondered what the surprise visit would be about. “Good. Busy with work, but good!” “I’m sorry to interrupt you. I can let you get back..” Brian interrupted her by grabbing for her arm as she began to leave. “Nonsense. You are here. Work can wait. What you have to say is surely more important,” he gestured her towards sit again. “Okay.” “You have something to ask or tell me,” he tried to get whatever it was from her mouth that was antagonizing her. “Should we wait for Mrs..?” “She is out. She went to get groceries. She just left. I think she will be a while,” he explained. “Oh.” “Can you tell me?” He asked her kindly. “I could tell you..but it’s so hard. It would be so much easier if your wife were here. I feel like I can tell you anything and everything. But I know if I do, I will change my mind. You have that effect on me.” All of those thoughts ran through Bianca’s mind. But she couldn’t bring herself to say any of them to this man whom she became fond of. “Of course,” she instead allowed herself. “You see. I went to see my Gran today.” “Oh, I hope she is well.” “Yes, very much. Spunky as ever!” She chucked. “Oh good. I know how much she means to you!” “Yes, that is part of the reason I have come. I saw a job posting at the nursing home where she is located. They have onsite housing,” “I see.” Brian felt his heart sink. He knew what she were to say next. He understood. Her Gram was her whole world. “Well, they offered me the job when I inquired. I didn’t even have to interview. They knew of my cooking skills and they hired me as the chef. I will be able to see my Gram every day.” Brian wanted nothing more than to curse her out. Order her not to take the role, or plead with her. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to do this crazy task with anyone else. He had felt so comfortable with her, like he had known her forever. But he knew it wasn’t fair to her either. “I am sorry. I wanted to help your family. Truly. But this was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up!” “I get it. Really I do. I wish you nothing but the best. You deserve it!” “Thank you. Thank you for understanding.” Bianca got up and gave him a big hug. She wasn’t sure why. She barely knew him. Brian graciously returned the sentiment and escorted her to the door. “If you change your mind. I do hope you’ll come back and find us!” “Absolutely. You and your wife are so kind. I know though, that you will find the right girl,” Bianca got into her old beaut up car and drove off. “I’m not so confident in that, now.” He thought. ............ Brian couldn’t bear to tell Olivia the news. He knew how angry she would be. All the time, effort and money that they had put into this silly thing was for nothing, she would say. “Maybe it’s a sign! Maybe she’ll agree,” he thought. But he knew better. She wouldn’t agree. She would start again. A whole new batch of women. Brian let out a big sigh. He couldn’t bear going through it again. Bianca was the one. He was sure of it. If it were to work with anyone, he wanted it to be someone held super comfortable with, and that was Bianca. ……… The very next afternoon, after having a whole night to sleep on it, Brian got into his Jeep and drove. He drove with a purpose. He needed to rectify things. So he drove to see Bianca. As he pulled into the door yard, Brian saw the front door was open to where she was staying. He mustered up the courage to go up to the door and knock. Music was playing in the background. He knew that his knock certainly wouldn’t be heard. He decided to go inside. He enters into the modest living room. Her suitcase was all laid out. He could see that she had been packing. Just then, as he was about to walk back out the front door, Bianca entered the room. “Mr. Stanton?” “Ah, hello.” An awkward silence fell upon them. Bianca let her guard down and went over to turn off the stereo. “I knocked but..” “It’s okay. What are you doing here?” “I want to ask you to reconsider our offer.” “I can’t, I already accepted another and start tomorrow!” “Your Gram will understand, we will compensate you very well!” “I know you will. She actually doesn’t even know yet. I was going to surprise her!” Brian walked over to Bianca. He glanced at the picture of her, her Gram and her Brother in the table and immediately felt guilty. But he knew what he wanted. He dug into his back pocket and pulled out a Manila envelope and handed it to her. “What is this?” She opened it up and found a very large amount of cash. “Why?” “It’s for you. I hope you will reconsider.” She stared at him. “There is $5,000 there. It’s yours, just for giving us a shot” She stared now at the pile of cash in her fingers. Bianca had never seen so many hundred dollar bills before. She knew this money would be life changing. It would take her a very long while to earn this much at the nursing home. She now stares at him again and he stares at her. “Olivia doesn’t know of this. It’s for just for you and me to know. No waiting for a baby, etc. to get a big payout. This will be yours now if you just come stay with us, please! Bianca couldn’t help but notice the sound of desperation in his voice. He truly was so kind. “Okay,” she whispered. “Really? Really” “Yes, really!” She gave him a big smile. “You won’t regret it, I promise!” …………… One week later, Bianca stood on the Stanton's doorsteps, bags in hand, and ready for her new adventure. She knew that it would probably be rough at times, but she also felt confident that the highs would outweigh the lows. She really needed the money and security that this job would bring. She also was so comfortable with Brian after their sit down. She just hoped that she would also be able to bond with Olivia. She was tougher to open up and to read. Olivia met Bianca in the driveway to Greer her upon her arrival. "We're so very happy to have you joining us," she hugged Bianca. . “You have no idea how very appreciative we really are," Olivia stated. "Thank you for the opportunity, Mrs. Stanton! I won't let you down," Bianca hugged her back. Just then, Brian joined them in the driveway. “Bianca, let me help you with your bags," he took them from her. "Thanks, Mr. Stanton," she replied. She didn't feel comfortable calling him Brian in front of his Wife, even though he told her to the last time that they met. The three of them then made their way to the guest house, and walked just past Olivia's office to the Maid's Quarters, where Brian had found himself sleeping a couple of weeks ago the evening that he and Ilivia fought. "Now, this will be your room, Bianca. You have your own kitchenette down the hall, and there is also a bathroom down there, as well. Now I must warn you, my office is just down the hall also, as you know, but the bathroom that you'll use is also shared with my business. So just be mindful of that when I am working, please," Olivia added. "Yes, Mrs. Stanton. I understand," she smiled excitedly at the space. Bianca was so happy to be out of her dreary one bedroom apartment. Even the guest house here was a 100 percent upgrade from what she was used to. Bianca never knew what it was like to live like the Stanton’s. She felt very lucky that they gave her practically her own space. "I think you will find the room adequate, also. This is also a new bed, so it should be comfortable," Olivia made note. Brian chuckled, "It is very comfortable, Bianca. I slept out here a couple of weeks ago," he smiled. Bianca, too, giggled. Olivia, though, she wasn't happy that her husband had let on that he slept in the guest house. She felt like Bianca may suspect troubles in their marriage. But she didn't want to let on that she was annoyed. She also didn’t want Bianca to make her way into any potential cracks between them. “Yes, Brian wanted to be sure you would be comfortable out here,” Olivia played off his comment as a concerned employer. Brian looked at his wife curiously but quickly realized what she was doing. He felt it was his job to support his wife and not call out her lie. “Yes, well. It was, so you should be good,” he added. "Good. Well then, you can get yourself settled here, and then come to the main house when you are ready. At that time, we will have some paperwork for you," Olivia explained to Bianca. "Thank you, Ma'am, I will do that," Bianca smirked. She assumed there would be lots of paperwork, given the nature of the role. "Is there anything that you need from us now," Brian asked kindly? "No, Sir, I think that I am good," Bianca admitted. “You have both been very kind. I think I will have everything that I need here.” After the Stantons left the guest house, Bianca sat down on the bed. “It is comfy,” she sighed happily. Her mind then began to race. Would she lose her virginity in this very spot? Would she like it knowing it was for a job and not for love? Would it feel good? Would she be comfortable? Of course she’d be comfortable with Mr. Stanton, he was so easy to talk to, she realized. He was good looking too. “STOP IT,” she pinched herself! Bianca knew she shouldn’t look at him like that. He was after all, a happily married man. A happily married man who was fine as f**k and who would basically be paying her to f**k. He did seem happily married. He had a beautiful home and wife. Why wouldn’t he be happy? Still, the way he talked about Beth, well, it was just different the way he talked about Olivia. He also said they were complete opposites. How could a man love two people who were completely opposite? Oh well, who am I to judge, she thought. It was his life. I will just be living it. Hopefully living it to the fullest and helping him do the same. Lord help me not fall in love with this man and not be able to give up our children when it’s time. A pit filled her stomach. Bianca knew herself. She was someone who grows emotionally attached to people. She doesn’t let a lot of people into her world, but when she does, she loves hard. She knew that she was going to have to toughen up through this journey and not let herself become emotionally attached.
