The Mafia Wants a Surrogate
Leonardo walked into his mother's room, his eyes filled with concern. He approached her bedside and slowly knelt down before her. Taking her hand gently into his, he immediately noticed how cold it felt. Her face looked pale and weak, a clear sign of how much her illness had taken a toll on her. She inhaled slowly, her tired eyes blinking open as she looked at him. "Leo, dear... could I ask you something?" she whispered, her voice low and unsteady. She had been sick for a long time, her health slowly declining with each passing day. Watching her fade away was something Leonardo hated, especially because he felt powerless to stop it. "Of course, Mama," Leonardo replied, his voice filled with worry. He hated seeing her like this. After everything she had done for him, the least he wanted was to see her suffer. "When are you going to give me grandchildren?" she asked gently, tightening her grip around his hand. It was a question she had asked him countless times over the past few years, and every time, Leonardo gave her the same answer. "Mama, we've already talked about this. When the time comes, I will find someone," Leonardo said, exhaustion evident in his voice. But the moment those words left his mouth, his mother's weak expression suddenly changed. She gripped his hand with surprising strength, as if her illness had disappeared completely. "When the time comes? Do you want me lying in a coffin before you finally decide to have children?" she asked dramatically. Leonardo raised an eyebrow at her words. "I didn't say that, and you know it," he replied. His mother's antics were something he was used to. She truly was sick, but she also knew exactly how to use her condition to pressure him into doing what she wanted. She had been asking him about marriage and children for years, and honestly, he was beginning to get tired of it. A knock suddenly sounded from the door. "Come in," Leonardo said, turning toward the entrance. The person who entered was the doctor responsible for his mother's health. Dr. Sylvia Robinson. She was a woman in her thirties and one of the most respected doctors in her field. She was also married with three children, which was probably why his mother constantly used her as an example. After all, Sylvia had a successful career, a husband, and children. To his mother, there was no excuse for Leonardo to still be alone. "Mrs. Lewis, your health seems to be stable this week," Dr. Sylvia said, examining the medical reports on her clipboard. Her eyes moved upward, and the moment she noticed Leonardo standing there, their gazes met. She immediately noticed the slight annoyance in his expression. "Looks like this isn't the best time," Sylvia said, turning around, hoping to leave. But before she could escape, Leonardo's voice stopped her. "Sylvia, have you been talking to my mother about children again?" he asked calmly. His voice was polite, but there was a warning hidden beneath it. "Don't blame her. I was the one who asked," his mother quickly defended. Dr. Sylvia silently sighed in relief. She had narrowly escaped being questioned by her intimidating boss. Leonardo turned his attention back to his mother, giving Sylvia the perfect opportunity to leave. By the time he looked back, she was already gone. "Leonardo, I'm warning you. If you don't give me a grandchild this year, I might not survive," his mother said seriously. Although her threat was exaggerated, Leonardo couldn't completely ignore it. Her health really was getting worse. "Fine, Mama. I will give you a grandchild," he finally agreed, a small smile appearing on his lips. His mother was everything to him. After his father's assassination, she was the one who protected him and ensured that his position was never questioned. She had sacrificed everything to place him on the throne and had endured countless hardships along the way. Leonardo would never forget what she had done for him. After spending some more time with his mother, he returned to his study. The moment he entered, his expression turned serious. How was he supposed to find a woman who wouldn't try to kill him the moment she got close? Many of his enemies had already attempted to send women after him. They would appear at clubs, pretend to be interested in him, and try to get close enough to eliminate him. Some tried poisoning him. Others attempted betrayal in different ways. But Leonardo was not someone who could easily be deceived. Being the most powerful man in the underworld came with a price. His enemies wanted him dead more than anything, and his name remained one of the highest targets on their list. He stood in his study, deep in thought. He didn't want to marry a woman who might betray him or become another enemy waiting for the right moment to strike. Then an idea suddenly came to him. A solution that would solve everything. "A surrogate." Those two words left his lips. He didn't need a wife. He only needed a woman willing to carry his child. After the baby was born, he would pay her and they would go their separate ways. There would be no emotional attachment, no betrayal, and no risk. It was the perfect solution. Leonardo immediately took out his phone and called his assistant. "Marcus, find me every available surrogate candidate immediately," he ordered. There was a brief silence on the other end. "Why, sir, if I may ask?" Marcus questioned carefully. The moment he heard the question, Leonardo's expression darkened. Questions were not something he tolerated. "I don't pay you to question my decisions, do I, Marcus?" Leonardo said coldly. The atmosphere instantly changed. Even through the phone, Marcus could feel the pressure behind his employer's voice. A chill ran down his spine. "No, sir. I will get the information immediately." The call ended. Leonardo placed the phone down, his eyes cold and unreadable. Soon, he would have an heir. And nothing would stand in his way.
