Mystery of life 3 (True life story)
At the close of the business that day, I was putting things in place as we close for the day when I heard my madam called me in a high tone..
I left what I was doing and ran to answer her only to meet her looking angry with some of the workers.
"Madam you called me."
"Emeka, why did you steal my money, haven't I been good to you enough, I feed you, I let you sleep here and still pay you so tell me why on God's name did you steal from me?"
I looked at her with an open mouth surprised and shocked.
"Madam, I didn't steal from you, maybe there is a mistake somewhere," I said.
"My five thousand naira is missing and all fingers points at you," she said.
"How? I'm not even in charge of handling the money," I said in my defence.
"Did you come behind the counter today?" Asked the lady who threw the food away.
I raised my head up trying to remember and it came flooding back.
"I only came behind the counter today when she," pointing to the lady who threw the food, "asked me to come help her carry a cooler and that was all," I said.
"Money has never gone missing before but the moment you stepped your feet there, money went missing," madam said.
"Madam please believe me, I don't know anything about the money," I said.
"Let's search him," the lady said and my madam nodded giving them the go ahead and the lady rushed to search me.
She searched my and brought out the money I was given early.
"Madam this is the money," the lady said handing it over to madam who counted it and it was five thousand.
Immediately it dawn on me that it was a gang up and no matter what I say it won't change anything.
"Emeka, what do you have to say for yourself?" My madam asked.
"A customer gave me that money earlier today, I sleep here everyday and nothing has ever gone missing I said.
"Go and continue your work," she said which surprised every one.
I took a deep breath and went back to what I was doing and when I came back inside to lock up the place I met my madam sitting.
She called to me and asked me to sit down which I did.
"I know you didn't steal the money," she said.
"How?" I asked confused.
