Marian stands frozen in front of the door.
Outside is Lee Dong-wook.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Marian? Open the door."
She looks at the photograph in her hand.
"DON'T TRUST LEE DONG-WOOK."
Her breathing becomes faster.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"I know you're there."
Marian finally answers.
MARIAN:
"Why are you here?"
There is silence.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Because you disappeared."
MARIAN:
"I was in my room."
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"You weren't answering."
Marian looks at the photograph.
MARIAN:
"I'm tired."
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Marian."
His voice softens.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Please open the door."
She hesitates.
Finally, she opens it.
Lee Dong-wook looks at her.
He immediately notices something is wrong.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"What happened?"
MARIAN:
"Nothing."
He looks into her eyes.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"You're lying."
She steps away.
MARIAN:
"I said I'm fine."
He doesn't move.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Who contacted you?"
She looks at him.
MARIAN:
"Why do you assume someone contacted me?"
He becomes silent.
Marian notices.
MARIAN:
"Exactly."

— THE ARGUMENT
MARIAN:
"How much do you actually know about my grandfather?"
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Not enough."
MARIAN:
"That's not what I asked."
He looks at her.

"I know he was connected to my friend."
MARIAN:
"And?"
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"And I know he disappeared around the same time my friend died."
MARIAN:
"You think he killed him?"
Lee Dong-wook doesn't answer.
Marian's eyes fill with hurt.
MARIAN:
"You do."
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"I don't know what to believe."
MARIAN:
"But you were investigating my family without telling me."
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"I was trying to protect you."
She shakes her head.
MARIAN:
"That's becoming your favorite excuse."
He looks hurt.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"You're right."
He turns to leave.
Marian watches him.
She wants to stop him.
But she doesn't.
The door closes.

Lee Dong-wook sits alone in his car.
He looks at a photograph of Marian.
He whispers:

"I'm sorry."
His phone rings.
It's his longtime manager and trusted friend, JAE-HO.
JAE-HO:
"Where are you?"

"Driving."
JAE-HO:
"Are you okay?"
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"No."
Jae-ho pauses.
JAE-HO:
"Marian?"
Lee Dong-wook doesn't answer.
JAE-HO:
"You're falling for her."
Lee Dong-wook looks out the window.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Too late."

— HOTEL RESTAURANT
Marian sits alone.
She tries to eat.
She can't.
The waiter approaches.
WAITER:
"Ma'am, are you okay?"
MARIAN:
"Yes."
The waiter looks at the untouched food.
WAITER:
"Your food doesn't seem to agree."
Marian sighs.
MARIAN:
"My boyfriend is the problem."
She freezes.
MARIAN:
"Wait."
The waiter smiles.
WAITER:
"Boyfriend?"
Marian covers her face.
MARIAN:
"I don't know."

— AN UNEXPECTED FRIEND
— HOSPITAL
Marian visits a hospital to see an old Korean colleague.
Doctor Kim sees her.
DOCTOR KIM:
"Marian!"
He smiles.
DOCTOR KIM:
"I heard you were having trouble."
MARIAN:
"What?"
DOCTOR KIM:
"You look like someone who hasn't slept."
She laughs.
MARIAN:
"Maybe."
DOCTOR KIM:
"Is it the actor?"
She looks at him.
MARIAN:
"How does everyone know?"
DOCTOR KIM:
"Because you're smiling every time someone says his name."
She becomes embarrassed.
MARIAN:
"I am not."
DOCTOR KIM:
"You are."

— THE ATTACK
— HOSPITAL PARKING GARAGE
Marian walks toward her car.
She hears footsteps.
She stops.
Another step.
She turns.
Nothing.
She continues walking.
A man suddenly grabs her.
Marian reacts immediately.
She twists his arm.
MARIAN:
"Wrong woman."
Another attacker appears.
Marian blocks him.
She fights both.
But the second man is stronger.
He catches her from behind.
Before he can hurt her—
A voice:
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Let her go."
The attacker freezes.
Lee Dong-wook walks from the shadows.
His face is expressionless.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"I won't ask twice."
The attacker attacks him.
Lee Dong-wook takes him down quickly.
Marian watches.
MARIAN:
"Dong-wook..."
He turns toward her.
His eyes immediately soften.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Are you hurt?"
She shakes her head.
MARIAN:
"No."
He checks her arms anyway.
MARIAN:
"I said I'm fine."
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"I know."
He looks at her.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"I just needed to see for myself."

— THE CAR
— SILENCE
They sit inside his car.
Neither speaks.
Finally—
MARIAN:
"Why did you come?"
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"I was worried."
MARIAN:
"How did you know where I was?"
He pauses.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"I tracked the people following you."
Marian looks at him.
MARIAN:
"You were watching me?"
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Protecting you."
MARIAN:
"There's a difference."
He looks down.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"I know."
She becomes quiet.
Then:
MARIAN:
"Are you going to lie to me again?"
He looks directly at her.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"No."
MARIAN:
"Promise?"
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"I promise."

— JAE-HO'S OFFICE
Lee Dong-wook meets Jae-ho.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Tell me everything about seven years ago."
Jae-ho looks nervous.
JAE-HO:
"Why?"

"Because Marian is involved."
Jae-ho freezes.
JAE-HO:
"You're sure?"
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Yes."
Jae-ho opens an old file.
Inside are photographs.
One shows Lee Dong-wook's deceased friend.
Another shows Marian's grandfather.
Then a third photograph.
Lee Dong-wook looks at it.
His face changes.
The third person is Jae-ho.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"You were there."
Jae-ho says nothing.

Jae-ho looks at him.
JAE-HO:
"From the truth."
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"What truth?"
Jae-ho finally says:
JAE-HO:
"Your friend wasn't killed by Marian's grandfather."
Lee Dong-wook freezes.
JAE-HO:
"He was killed by someone inside our own organization."
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Who?"
Jae-ho looks at him.
JAE-HO:
"I don't know."
Lee Dong-wook doesn't believe him.

— THE OLD HOUSE
Marian receives a package from the Philippines.
Inside is an old notebook belonging to her grandfather.
She opens it.
Most pages are written in Korean.
She reads one page.
"If Marian ever comes to Seoul, keep her away from the Black Orchid."
Marian freezes.
Another page:
"She must never know what happened to her parents."
Marian's hands begin shaking.
MARIAN:
"My parents?"
She turns the page.
It's blank.
Then a photograph falls out.
It shows her parents standing beside a much younger Lee Dong-wook.
Marian stares.
MARIAN:
"Dong-wook?"

Lee Dong-wook finds Marian.
She is holding the photograph.
He immediately recognizes it.

"Where did you get that?"
She looks at him.
MARIAN:
"My grandfather's notebook."
He becomes silent.

"You knew my parents."
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Yes."
She takes a step toward him.
MARIAN:
"How?"
He closes his eyes.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"I met them once."
MARIAN:
"When?"
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Seven years ago."
Marian's face changes.
MARIAN:
"Why were my parents in Korea?"
He doesn't answer.
MARIAN:
"Tell me."
He finally looks at her.

"Because they were trying to find your grandfather."

"They helped him gather evidence."
MARIAN:
"What happened?"
He looks away.

"They disappeared."
Marian covers her mouth.

She starts crying.

This time, he doesn't touch her until she nods.
He embraces her.
She cries against his chest.

She blushes.

He smiles.

The mysterious man receives a phone call.

"Marian knows about her parents."
He becomes angry.

He stands.

"Then it's time."
VOICE:
"Time for what?"
He looks at a photograph of Marian.
MYSTERIOUS MAN:
"Bring her grandfather's notebook to me."
VOICE:
"And if she refuses?"
His expression becomes cold.
MYSTERIOUS MAN:
"Then bring Marian."

— NIGHT
Marian and Lee Dong-wook walk toward her hotel.
She suddenly stops.
MARIAN:
"Something's wrong."
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"What?"
She looks around.

"We're being followed."
Lee Dong-wook immediately looks behind them.
Nothing.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Stay close."
They continue walking.
A black vehicle suddenly speeds toward them.
Lee Dong-wook grabs Marian.
They jump aside.
The vehicle stops.
Several men get out.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Marian, run."
MARIAN:
"No."
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Run!"
She takes a defensive stance.
MARIAN:
"We fight together."
He looks at her.
Then smiles.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Fine."
The attackers rush toward them.
A brutal but controlled fight begins.
Marian takes down one attacker.
Lee Dong-wook takes down another.
They move together almost perfectly.
One attacker grabs Marian.
She elbows him.
Lee Dong-wook finishes the fight.
Then suddenly—
A dart hits Marian's shoulder.
She stumbles.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Marian!"
He catches her.
Her vision becomes blurry.
MARIAN:
"Dong-wook..."
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Stay awake."
She looks at him.
MARIAN:
"I trust you."
Her eyes close.
Lee Dong-wook looks terrified.
He lifts her into his arms.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"Marian."
He looks toward the attackers.
His expression becomes completely cold.
LEE DONG-WOOK:
"You made a very big mistake."

Then she loses consciousness again.

His face becomes emotionless.
