Chapter 3
Kane's POV
Excelling from the very first time I learned to walk down to my very first shift, I have been termed the prodigy alpha. My authority had never been questioned and my superiority could always be seen even before I had stepped into the room. But today, a lowly omega who looked like she knew nothing about the world of werewolves had refused me.
When she had first walked into the room with her dainty steps, I could read her fear. It was evident in the tiny pheromones she released. She probably had no idea that she was capable of it. However, I was deeply affected by her scent as it wafted tauntingly around my senses. Why did she smell different from other Omegas?
I had felt a little anxious when she had stepped back towards the door and the instant relief when I saw her pick up the second tray had me questioning my entire being. When I approached her, She had looked up at me like I was evil lurking in the shadows and despite her fear, I could sense the invitation in her eyes. Which is why I was surprised when she had rejected my advances.
Normally, when an omega was being defiant, we subdued them with our pheromones. Made them want and beg for our affection. We were undergoing training to be Alphas in our different packs and having some types of emotions made us weak. After the training, we would be free to go in search of our fated mate or pick one from our pack if we desired. I should have used the necessary means to make her submit but here I was sitting down with the omega and having a discussion while the delicious smell of her stew mixed with her pheromones filled the air.
"What's your own name?" I asked her while getting into a comfortable position on the chair.
"Karissa." Her name danced in my mind, a melody I wanted to hear over and over again. It was a beautiful name and I didn't even know the meaning.
"Tell me about how you got to be in the training camp." I didn't really want to know about that but hearing her speak was like having my wolf run free in the woods. Her voice morphed from fear to courage and annoyance as she explained the raid. The feeling of attraction I got was as she talked randomly. It was almost like a magnetic pull, where her words drew me in effortlessly. It left me feeling fascinated.
"So you were in a small human village?"
"Not just in it, I was raised there. Leo's mama took care of us three. After Leo, she is the bestest person I have ever seen." She was so excited while talking about these people.
"Well then omega, what do you think you are?" I ignored the anger I felt from her calling another man the best. Emotions are just another form of weakness for an alpha and while training,we have learnt to discard it properly.
I would have actually hurt Karissa if it weren't for how much my wolf revered her presence.
"Human?"
"You don't smell like that to me." I shook my head just as a knock was rasped on the door.
"Alpha Kane. We're sorry to disturb your leisure but there's a problem with the raid led by Warrior Fesko. They aren't in communication with anyone from the interceptions and one of our contact points have actually lost connection."
I frowned before releasing a growl. They really expected too much from me as the top and most ruthless Alpha in the training camp.
"Alpha?" I heard the guard call again. I stood up and Approached Karissa. She flinched as I got close. I used a mindlink to get the guy up.
"Stand up!" I commanded and she stood up without hesitation.
"Kane?" Her scent filled up my woozy mind.
"Are you always this obedient or just scared?" I asked in annoyance. I could smell her arousal but I could do nothing because she didn't want me to. And I could tell it wasn't just a natural one for her to still be in that state after we just conversed for that long.
"Scared!" She yelped as I grabbed her waist and pulled her close. Who is scared but totally aroused?
In the quiet dimness of the bedroom, with the light of the lamp that she had brought in, I caressed her face a little and used my finger to lift it so she could look directly in my eyes. Her eyes looked lost. Almost like she was confused about what was happening to her.
"Karissa," I felt her shiver. his voice tender with reassurance. "I'll see you when I return."
With a smile, I leaned in to taste. her lips were hesitant and inexperienced. I wanted to explore her in that kiss but decided against it. I had urgent matters to attend to. As soon as I let go, she fell on the bed, breathing heavily.
It was night, the moon high and bright, but the woods had little light thanks to the number of trees in it. The woods were shrouded in an eerie silence as I prowled through the dense forest. My every step was calculated and was filled with determination to root out the weeds that had decided to betray the alliance on the day that I had finally found something to interest me.
The warrior wolves that were supposed to be my support, trailed behind me with their tails tucked between their legs. I could feel their fear, palpable in the air. They struggled to keep pace with me as we were in shifted form.
"Stay close," I growled. My voice was a low, menacing rumble that would send shivers down their spines. I knew then that my wolf was as annoyed as I was."
We traced their scent for a while and lost it whenever we got too close. I couldn't tell how long the search had already gone for or if it was evening. The search had stretched on for too long and soon the moon was out. I went to a hill which we had passed twice now and howled really loudly.
The moonlight filtered through the thick canopy of trees, casting long shadows that danced across the forest floor. In the moonlight my senses were keener, and my nose twitched as I picked up the faintest scent of deceit lingering in the air.
Suddenly, a rustling in the underbrush ahead caught my attention. I watched closely and saw a small wolf run in one direction.
"The traitors have been found," I growled. "Show no mercy."
With a snarl, I surged forward, the warrior wolves finally keeping up the pace. As we reached the hiding spot of the traitors, my lips curled backwards in another snarl.
The group of wolves all stood, plotting. They looked scared as they saw my group emerge from the shadows. Without a word, I lunged forward, my claws slashing through the air with precision. The traitors howled and struggled but they had no time to fight back. The warrior wolves followed the ones that attempted to escape.
I showed no mercy, and that was my way of being a reliable leader. I smiled in satisfaction, even as I bled from my arm. One of the traitors was no ordinary wolf, he was a dire wolf. Dire wolves were ambitious fools who could be alpha if they killed one. I initially had no idea of this. My battle with the dire wolf was something to behold.
The dire wolf understood that should he kill me, he became the new alpha and that made his aim clear. He pounced so heavily on me that I lost my balance. Slashes flew around so much and the impact was like that of lightning. It was a frightening sight to behold but I was relentless.
In the midst of the moonlit forest, the air thick with tension, the dire wolf, its fur bristling with primal fury, lunged at me ferociously. He was good with the attacks but I was better.
With thunderous growls and snapping jaws, we clashed; our fierce battle echoing through the night. The wolf fought ferociously, determined to end my life. But I am a god, wise and cunning. I countered each attack with calculated precision. With a final, devastating strike, I seized victory as I pulled out his Achilles tendon, and the forest fell silent once more, acknowledging the reign of the alpha. And out of that silence I let out my howl and the wind blew, attesting to my godhood. My warrior companions were silent in fear.
"Get it over with, kill me!" Said the dire wolf that had already shifted to his human form. I walked towards him, squared, and pulled him by the hair. He was not a member of the training camp.
Something bigger was definitely going on.
"Not yet, not yet. You may still be useful, after all I need information from you." I said as I knocked him out with a powerful punch.
