Rea sat alone at Mocha Cafe, a cafe where she often met her handsome boyfriend. She was so happy when she received a chat message from her boyfriend asking her to meet him. She thought her boyfriend must be planning a surprise for her.
It was a special day for her. It was her 25th birthday. But instead, she had bad luck. She was fired from her job just because she reprimanded one of her students.
Rea Athena was a French teacher at a tutoring center. She always taught well. But the day before, she had scolded a student who wasn't paying attention to her explanation.
Unexpectedly, that student was the son of a wealthy businessman in the city. As a result, she was fired due to a report from the student's father.
"Oh, never mind. I can find another job." Rea tried to cheer herself up.
Not long after, she saw Ray, her handsome boyfriend, entering the cafe area. Rea waved enthusiastically at Ray.
Rea smiled sweetly at Ray as he sat down, but strangely, Ray didn't smile back. He looked away instead.
"What would you like to order, Honey?" Rea asked her boyfriend, whom she had missed. They hadn't seen each other for almost two weeks because of Ray's busy schedule.
"No, I just ate."
"What about a drink?"
"No, Rea. Besides, I can't stay long," Ray replied.
Rea frowned in surprise.
Rea? Since when did Ray call her by her name? He usually called her "Honey."
Rea began to feel confused.
But Ray remained silent.
Shortly after Rea's order arrived, Rea asked again, "Honey, are you sure you don't want to order anything?"
Ray shook his head and began to play with his phone casually. "You can eat first, then I'll tell you something important."
“Talk about something important? What is it? Are you going out of town again?” Rea asked, who was used to Ray’s job, which sometimes required him to travel frequently.
Ray was a very talented architect, so of course many companies needed his skills.
“No, it’s not that. Just eat first,” Ray said flatly.
Rea stopped eating. She lost her appetite because she sensed that something was wrong with Ray. Rea looked at her boyfriend with a questioning gaze.
Ray, who noticed her gaze, immediately looked back into Rea's clear brown eyes.
"Tell me now! What important thing do you want to talk about?" Rea asked, not taking her eyes off Ray.
"I want our relationship to end, Rea."
Rea was shocked. "What?"
"I want us to break up now."
With trembling lips, Rea asked, "But why? What did I do wrong?"
"You didn't do anything wrong. But ... my family has arranged for me to marry their friend's child."
"And I can't refuse," Ray continued.
A tear fell from Rea's eye.
"But this isn't the first time you've been set up, Ray. You always refused before, so why are you accepting it now?" Rea asked , her voice hoarse from holding back her sobs.
Ray shook his head, “I can’t keep refusing, Rea. I don’t want to defy my parents. It’s been five years of us dating without my parents’ blessing. I’m tired. They’ll never agree to our relationship. I also don’t want to make them worry about my uncertain future with you.”
Rea suddenly laughed.
Ray was very surprised to see Rea wipe her tears away roughly.
"You're so funny, Ray. This is just a joke, right? You just want to surprise me, right? Because today is my birthday. Right, Ray? You just want to scare me. Right, honey?" Rea wiped away the tears that were falling again.
Rea shook her head and said again. “Alright, Ray. You’ve succeeded in scaring me. I … almost believed that you didn’t want to break up. You’re such a great actor. Where did you learn that? You could be an actor.”
Ray was stunned. "Is it your birthday today, Rea? I'm sorry, I forgot."
Rea's smile instantly vanished from her small lips.
"What do you mean, Ray?" Rea asked again, her voice trembling.
"I'm sorry, Rea. But ... I'm not joking at all. I'm serious. I want us to break up today."
Ray stared at Rea, who was still crying silently.
"I'm getting married next month," Ray said coldly.
Rea immediately stood up.
Rea slapped Ray twice. The imprint of Rea's palm was clearly visible on both of Ray's cheeks.
Ray just stood there silently.
Not satisfied with that, Rea surprised Ray again by taking a glass of green tea from the table and pouring it over Ray's head.
Ray gasped and rubbed his face in shock.
"Rea, you're out of line!" Ray said indignantly.
"What? Out of line? You're the jerk." Rea shouted angrily.
"I regret wasting my precious time on trash like you. You bastard. Go to hell, Ray!"
After saying that, Rea grabbed her backpack and rushed towards the exit.
Before leaving the cafe, Rea even took the time to flip Ray off.
Ray looked completely shocked. Moreover, many of the cafe's patrons were staring at him with strange looks.
Rea, with tears still streaming down her face, started riding her motorcycle.
Her mind was completely chaotic. But she remembered that she had no cash, so she decided to stop by an ATM before going home.
She looked for the nearest ATM and found one in the parking lot of a fancy restaurant.
Rea then turned her motorcycle to the left.
The road was slightly sloped. When Rea arrived in front of the ATM, she reversed her motorcycle because she felt she had parked it incorrectly.
However, when she reversed and drove forward a little, a black car slowly approached from the right and she crashed into it.
Rea lost her balance and fell.
The collision wasn't too hard, but it made a noise that wasn't too light either.
Rea grimaced in pain.
She looked around for help, but it was useless. There was no one there.
Before she could recover from her shock, she was startled again when a tall man got out of the car she had hit.
But instead of helping Rea up, the man checked the front of his car.
"Holy s**t!" The man cursed and immediately walked towards Rea.
He glared at Rea angrily.
"Are you going to stand there like an i***t, miss?" The light brown-haired man said with a sharp expression.
