The trip to Derring, OK, where Avorn Security was located, would take about five and a half hours. The four of them talked quietly. Lori was telling Mariam a few things about the town of Derring. Alex and Trey were discussing a new case Brenda had told them about.
They had been driving about three hours when they stopped to fill up with gas and to eat. They walked around a bit first to stretch their legs. They decided to eat there to have a break from the car.
Alex offered to drive when they continued their trip, but Trey said he was fine. So, they all settled back in the car. They had not been on the road very long when Alex glanced down at Mariam in his arms and found her fast asleep. He smiled and kissed the top of her head.
Lori looked back to say something but saw Mariam was asleep
