Hello there, lovely folks! Here's the first chapter. Enjoy reading. Emerald POV: "Em, get up, you're going to be late," Ana yelled from downstairs. Groaning, I shifted to the other side, burying my head in the pillow as Ana continued to yell something that wouldn't stop. Because of her ranting and the sun rays landing straight on my face, it was really irritating. I buried my face in the pillow to cover myself from the light rays coming in through the window, and I buried my ears in the other pillow so I could save myself from Ana's screams. I could hear her voice muffled through the pillow, "I'm saying this for the last time." Ana's hands were on my back after around a minute or so. She straight away started tickling me. "Stop... Ana.... Please... Stop..." I couldn't control laughing so hard that my cheeks and stomach started aching after a while. "I'm unable to...... Breathe..." I murmured in between the chuckles, and she realized I couldn't take it any longer. "Are you all right, Em?" she asked, and I nodded. I checked the time on the clock, it was 6.40 a.m. already, and I was super late for work. "Omg, I'm going to be late for work. Why didn't you wake me up earlier, Ana," I exclaimed as I jumped from my bed. "That's what I've been trying to do for the past hour," Ana huffed. " But if only you would have listened, " she continued, still sitting on the bed, as I rushed around to get my belongings. I rushed into the bathroom and slammed the door shut behind me. After a minute, I could hear the loud noise of a door slamming. I ignored it and brushed my teeth before taking a quick shower and drying myself. I exited the bathroom holding the towel with my fingers that covered my body. There was a white-collar shirt and high waisted pants lying on the bed that Ana might have picked out for me. Ana has always been there for me when I needed her. She has sort of looked after me after my parents died. She and her family took me in and treated me like one of their own. After all of the troubles I had with my extended family, she took me to her house to stay with her family. She was familiar with my uncle's and his family's mistreatment of me after my parents died and I moved in with them. We've been living together in Los Angeles, away from her folks, for the past year. She looks after me as a mother would, and she understands me as a sister and friend. I am extremely fortunate and blessed to be a part of such a wonderful family. I dressed up and paired it with black heels, putting on a minimal amount of makeup that included just eyeliner, mascara on my rare green eyes, and pink lipstick before pulling my brown hair into a pony tail. I'm not a big fan of wanting to wear a lot of makeup. Before exiting my room, I checked my phone one last time Mr. Richard left two or three messages and phone calls informing me of the meeting at 8 a.m. in the restaurant " Wine and Dine," after which we will leave directly for the office. I texted him to let him know I'd be there on time. This job means the world to me. I've always wanted to be independent as soon as possible in my life. Ana and her parents helped me a lot in finishing my schooling after my parents passed away. I worked as many part-time jobs as I could to pay my bills, but they have always been ready to help me whenever I needed a large amount of money. I'm so grateful to them. They treated me as if I had been their own daughter, and they got me everything Ana got. I love and respect them like my own family. As I saw the clock on the wall in front of me, I snapped out of my thoughts. It's 7:25 a.m. already. I gathered my belongings in my purse and headed downstairs. Ana was making a delicious breakfast in the kitchen. "Good morning, Ana," I said, kissing her on the cheeks. As soon as she saw me, she replied, "Good morning, Em, I made some pancakes for breakfast. Come have breakfast with me." I quickly took out a plate and quickly ate my breakfast, which was delicious. I washed the plate, taking it to the kitchen. Kissing Ana's cheeks, I said goodbye and made my way out of the house, calling for a cab since my car was down for servicing. After about a 10-minute ride, I found myself in front of a large restaurant called "Wine and Dine." I walked in and made my way to the reception area. The name of the restaurant was neatly written on the wall behind the reception. It appeared to be a nice five-star restaurant with beautiful interior design. There were various pieces of art all over the place. "Hello," I said, as I approached the receptionist. "Hello, Ma'am, how may I assist you?" inquired the receptionist. "I'm Emerald Blooms, and I'm here for a meeting with Mr. Richard," I explained. "Okay, ma'am, give me just a minute," she said, getting on the phone call. "Ma'am, the meeting is on the second floor, and Mr. Richard is waiting," she said. She called a member of staff, he led me towards the place where the meeting is to be held. As we walked inside, the hotel's interior looked even more impressive. As we walked inside, the hotel's interior became even more amazing. I was looking at a painting on the wall in front of me when I suddenly bumped into the wall and was about to fall when a pair of arms wrapped around my waist. "Wait a minute, the wall has arms," I reasoned. When I opened my eyes, it wasn't the wall, but a handsome man who was holding me in his arms. He has brown hair, deep blue eyes, a strong jaw line, well-defined lips, and a strong physique. He was without a doubt the most attractive man I had ever seen. He has the looks of a Greek god. When I suddenly realised, I was frozen in his arms, I straightened up and stood back up. "Watch where you go, lady," he groaned, picking up his phone from the floor. There were two men in the same black suit standing behind him, also staring at me weirdly, kind of like the man who was holding me. My phone rang, and Mr. Richard's name flashed across the screen. As soon as I answered the phone, he asked, "Where are you, Emerald?" "I'm coming," I said and I hung up the phone. I was about to apologise to the man in front of me with the oooooooh so beautiful blue eyes, but I couldn't due to a massive, sudden loud noise coming from behind us, and the person standing to the left of the blue-eyed man got shot with the gun. It all happened so quickly, I could see blood oozing from his left arm. I couldn't say anything at all or move from the place I was standing. I was scared after seeing all of his blood dripping off his fingers and falling to the ground. I was frozen for a while before I was able to scream. At the same time, the blue-eyed man looked at me and tightened his grip on my arm, pulling me to a corner and signalling to his men to move forward. On cue, the men pulled out their guns from their pockets and started firing shots towards the first floor, where two other men were also shooting. I could see them through the mirror in front of me. One of the men was shot, while the other managed to run away. It scared the s**t out of me. Everything from my past began to resurface before my eyes. I tried to close my eyes and cover my ears with my hands to get away from the thoughts that were racing through my head, but the sound of gunshots in the background made it even more difficult to relax. My body was trembling, and tears streamed down my cheeks. I felt someone take my cold hands in their warm ones and try to calm me down, but my head started spinning and everything just came to a halt. “Don’t be afraid of the change, it is leading you to the new beginning of the journey we call ‘life’.” - K.K.
