“Good morning, how can I help you?” She asked with a professional smile. “My first day at work, I just got hired,” I said. “Hold on, let me confirm,” She said, and dialed a number on the telephone beside her. I glanced around once more, taking notice of every item on the counter, waiting for her to confirm with the other person on the phone. “Audrey, right?” She asked me. “Yes,” I replied. “You're the new Assistant for the boss,” She said. Wait! The boss? omg, this is unbelievable! Excitement is bustling inside me with this new revelation. Honestly, I didn't expect this; I thought I was gonna be an assistant to some random person in the company; I never imagined it was gonna be the boss. “Miss Audrey Milan,” A voice called my name. “I'm Mike,” He said and stretched his hand for a handshake. “Hi, Mr Mike” I replied, shaking his hand. “Just Mike, I'm not old .” “Got it,” I said, matching his energy with a smile. “Ok, follow me; I will show you around before you meet the boss.” We entered the elevator, he pressed the second button, and I felt the elevator moving up. We heard the ding sound and the elevator door opened to a hallway. He stepped out and I followed suit, trailing after him. He turned to the left, and I saw different people working at their desks, while others were moving around with files in their hands. Then he turned to me. “This is the HR Department, and I'm the HR manager.” He showed me around and introduced me to the team, and they all seemed friendly. We went to different departments, including the security control room, where I saw how they operate their systems with different displays of camera screens showing all corner of the company. I could see all the departments from here. My legs were aching, but I stayed composed walking with a smile, I guess Mike was used to this. “And that will be all for now,” He said. I sighed in relief, Thank goodness—I thought I was gonna collapse before I would get to the boss. “Tired already?” He asked with a knowing chuckle. “You can imagine,” I admitted. “This is just the start, there will be days you won't want to come to work.” He said “As the executive secretary, you get to handle a lot of work; most times, you're going to have to take paperwork home.” He added. “I think I can deal with that,” I replied. “If you say so,” He said. “Strange, it's just paperwork and a s**t load of work; I can deal with it, or is there something he isn't telling me.” I thought to myself. “Time to go to the boss.” He announced. Ah! The moment I had been waiting for, I can't wait to sit my ass down; my legs were aching so badly, and to meet the boss of course . We took the elevator to the first floor; I'm nervous, I won't lie—I mean, I was meeting the boss, The freaking owner of this company! Richest man in L. A. Okay I think I'm exaggerating. “Audrey, he's a freaking Billionaire,” My subconscious screamed at me. But he's just a person—not like he's going to bite. Each second in the elevator felt like hours. I didn't know where this sudden nervousness is coming from. At a time like this, I wished I'd listened to that voice and looked him up on the internet over the weekend. I haven't seen him, that was why I am feeling this way. “He's not going to bite Audrey,” I said to myself. The ding of the elevator brought me out of my thoughts; I rubbed my sweaty palms on my skirt and stepped out of the elevator. Mike stood in front of a gigantic white oak door; it was stunning, I thought to myself, glancing at every detail with my eyes, “Obviously—it's going to be stunning; it's the CEO’s door, duh!” My subconscious retorted. I didn't realize Mike already knocked, till I heard— “Come in,” said a gruff voice. “Why did that voice sound familiar?” I wondered, Mike opened the door and stepped in; I followed suit behind him, bowing my head slightly. Under my lashes, I took notice of a lady seated and her back to us. “Sir, here she is,” Mike said “I will take it from here, Mike; thank you”. The boss said. I looked up, curious to know why the CEO’s voice sounded so familiar. My eyes grew wide like a saucer immediately. “Oh my freaking goodness, this can't be real!” I thought to myself. I closed my eyes and reopened them to see if i was in a dream, or if I was hallucinating. Unfortunately, it's real. “Mr Grumpy?” I whispered under my breath. “Adrian—Mr. Grumpy—was the boss? My boss? He's a freaking BILLIONAIRE! The owner of SCOTT. HOLDINGS!!.” different thoughts keep swirling in my head at this shocking revelation. I know I asked him for a Job, but I never thought he was this big; oh, for goodness sake, I was supposed to be given a heads-up. “Snap out of it Audrey!” I screamed at my thoughts, shaking my head slightly. I didn't want to look like a deer in the headlights on my first day. “Why's he staring at me!! Am I supposed to say something? Oh gawd, I'm soooooo nervous…., s**t this isn't working at all!!!. BREATH IN!!, BREATH OUT!!. Okay, I think I'm fine now.” I forced myself to meet his gaze, why wasn't he saying anything? I smiled waiting for him to say something. “Miss Audrey?” He finally said. “Sir” I replied. “I'm guessing you've been shown around, correct?” He asked. “Yes sir,” I said with a smile. “Good, Miss Max is going to guide you on how things are done here before you start working with me directly.” “Ok sir” “Welcome to the company.” He said “Thank you, sir,” I replied. I don't think he ever smiles, isn't he supposed to welcome me with a smile?----
