Cherry started talking to her grandma the following morning. If not, she couldn't have had a nice warm Saturday morning breakfast. Ms Davies was serving up a fine meal of toast, scotched eggs and bacon to go with a nice cup of warm chocolate. She sure hoped she could get last night's conversation off Cherry's mind with an enticing breakfast. She thought she had succeeded until Cherry said she was leaving for the team meeting. Apparently, her granddaughter didn't leave in a good mood. Cherry really wondered what was going to be discussed at this 'meeting'. There was only one way to end her curiosity. Unknown to her, a pleasant surprise awaited her at the Willows Mansion.
As the captain approached the tall building, she noticed nobody was wandering around the compound! Not even the armed security guards were around to stop her for not having an invite. She just gently pulled a lever beside which the word 'open' was boldly written. The Willows Mansion was as silent as a graveyard - even a pin drop could be heard within the compound.
"Hello?" Cherry said, now starting to feel a bit frightened. Nobody answered her, so she stealthily moved towards one of the main entrance doors. As she stepped on the door mat, the doors opened and to Cherry's amazement, a number of her school mates as well as top officials from the Seattle authorities had come to wish her a happy birthday.
"Happy Birthday Cherry!" A majority of them cheered as Cherry shrieked loudly in excitement. The surprise party had everything - cakes with candles, balloons, interior decorations, a piñata and most importantly; enough food and drinks for everyone. At some point, Cherry started to get a bit emotional - no one had ever thrown a birthday party for her, so this one was really special to her. In the distance, she spotted Mason, Madonna and Troy - the latter being the financial architect of it all. Cherry hugged all three of them tightly.
"How'd you guys know my birthday was today?" Cherry asked while simultaneously cross checking her memory to remember if she had ever told them.
"Well you shouldn't be asking that, we're all geniuses" said Madonna. It was actually Troy who found out after looking through their profiles. From the look on Cherry's face, it almost seemed like she had forgotten that her birthday was today! It was only the surprise from her team mates that refreshed her mind. Being a very influential individual or at least the daughter of one, Troy was able to notify some top officials who lived in Seattle to come and commend her efforts.
"So does this mean there's not actually a meeting today?" Cherry asked. She started to believe that the meeting was just a means to lure her to the surprise party venue.
"Oh no. There is a meeting today! It'll be after the party" Mason stated causing the other three to heave a heavy sigh, not of relief, but of disappointment.
Captain Cherry really had a nice time with the crew. It was good to finally have some time to hang out as a group outside their regular schedule of keeping the universe safe. It was also a great way to mark the end of this long and eventful summer holiday. At the end of the party; which was called to a close a couple of hours past noon, the crew met in Troy's room. Cherry had been to the Willow's Mansion and even Madonna, but Mason who was seen as the 'leader' of the pack, had never been there until today. On entering into Troy's room, he was astonished. He kept admiring the stuff in the room before Troy slapped him on his cheek and reminded him of why they had come here.
"Hey! That hurt" Mason said after yelling on impulse. He gently rubbed the area of impact which had reddened a bit.
"Whatever! Just get straight to the dumb meeting already" Troy said.
"What if I don't?" Mason responded immediately.
"If you don't, I'll turn my arm into a nuclear blaster and fry your stupid face!"
"Guys! This is not the time or place for this! Could we just get to the reason why we're all here? I've got to go grocery shopping for my Mom right after this" Madonna said to settle the rising feud between Mase and Troy.
"Alright, so I gathered us all here to discuss a couple of issues concerning this team. As you are all aware we've never previously had a meeting before, so I..." Mason was saying before being distracted by a hand raised by Cherry. Mason authorised her to speak -
"I'm sorry to cut your speech short but could you head straight to the 'issues' "
"Alright. Now first of all, we don't have a cool group name" Mason said, picking up one squeaky ball on top one of the reading tables.
"Seriously? A group name? That's our serious issue?" Cherry immediately responded.
"Yeah! All the cool super teams have one. The Justice League, The Harbingers, GOTG, name it!" said Mason.
"That shouldn't be our major problem right now..." said Cherry.
"Actually Cap, I think Mase's right. We actually don't have a cool g**g name" Madonna said.
"Seriously? Anyway you better be quick about this" Cherry said.
"So does any one have a suggestion?" Mason said, searching through all three of their faces.
"How about the Seattle Rovers? How does that sound?" Madonna initially suggested.
"Seattle Rovers? We're not some local basketball club from the nineties!" Mason responded.
"How about the Sentries or the Valiants?" Troy said walking towards one of the shelves in the room.
"Those sound really good. I'll think about which one of them is better" Mason said pointing a finger in her direction.
"Whatever" Cherry sarcastically uttered.
"Why are you the one who gets to choose?" Madonna said. On making that statement a loud noise was heard from just outside and the rumbles of commotion from civilians scampering for safety was unlimited.
"What was that?" Madonna said as she and the other three put on their super suits.
"Maddie give me a status update!" Cherry said hoping she could reach Maddison on the communication lines. Maddison and Max were busy playing a game of FIFA up in the living room and the former inadvertently left the communication device down in the basement.
"Maddison can you hear me?" Cherry yelled once again but nobody answered. They all jumped out of Troy's window and immediately bolted into the scene. As they landed on the ground, they sighted an extra-terrestrial space ship - from which an explosive device was dropped. It appeared their evil enemy was making a stop at Planet Earth once more, but the fact that she was attacking Seattle City raised a lot of eyebrows.
'La Matador' as she had earlier introduced herself jumped down from the space ship which was nothing less than thirty feet above the ground - like a cat, she landed on her feet, only using her right hand to establish perfect balance.
"You again?" Mason said lighting up his arms with blue flames.
"What do you want Cinderella?" Troy added.
"It's a pleasure to meet you again my dear friends" the evil villainess responded.
"You still haven't answered my question b**ch" Troy runted.
"Oh I'm sorry. My name who now identified herself as Joao responded.
"Wait, I thought your name was the Marathon City Lotto?" Mason humorously uttered.
"That's a nickname you fool. Anyways, I'm on your planet to create an inter dimensional pathway that would link my planet to yours. The people of Inversia will take over your planet. Not a single one of you will be spared" Joao explained.
"Well you're going to have to get past us first" Mason said, as the four heroes took their attacking stances. Mason and Madonna made the first runs. Mason and Madonna flew towards Joao and the latter opened up a pair of portals. Mason and Madonna flew into the portal and their physical and mental states were temporarily warped out of existence! The portal immediately closed and neither Cherry nor Troy knew where it's other end led.
"No!!! You monster!" Cherry said looking eye to eye with the all quelling Joao. Cherry then turned to Troy to hand some important information -
"Troy, no matter what you do, don't fly at extremely high velocity. Until we can get her on the defensive, watch your back after every move"
"Sure thing Cher" Troy said as the last two warriors started to land hits. Cherry's opening hit smashed Joao's hovering space ship into bits. She swung one of her bolstering green darts straight at the heart of the ship and it came crashing down, causing a huge explosion. Troy immediately switched her arms into heavy duty plasma blasters and shot the portal opening discs straight out off Joao's hands after some precise timing and calculation. Cherry attempted to retrieve the discs from Joao, to see if they could be used to bring back Mason and Madonna. While still lying on the floor, Joao accurately flung a pulse grenade at both discs leading to intense damage. Cherry and Troy looked completely dismayed.
Captain Cherry released one last star bolt at Joao but she jumped into another portal to slip off their hands yet again. Not exactly the best birthday she would have asked for - losing two of her best friends while still in telling pursuit of a very dangerous villainess. Joao was the intergalactic inverse of Cherry Davies from the planet called Inversia. Joao might have transported the duo of Mason and Madonna to Inversia, but there was still an underlying probability that they weren't transported there.
"Quick! Let's get to Mason's house" Cherry said to Troy who still couldn't believe what she'd just seen. They levitated into the skies and burst straight to Boulevard Brooks. They flew into the inlet that led to Maddison's laboratory. Maddie was now playing a game of ping pong with Max. Cherry was absolutely furious with Maddison for leaving them stranded on the communication lines. Unlike every other crime they solved or enemy they faced, they had to discover this crime themselves.
"Maddison! Why did you do that?" Cherry yelled, ultimately interrupting their game of ping pong.
"Oh Hi Cherry" Max said while waving his right hand and trying to ease the growing tension.
"Not now Max!" Cherry yelled in anger.
"Maddison why'd you leave us stranded on the com lines?" Troy said while gently pacing from side to side across the room.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry" Maddison responded so swiftly.
"Sorry? Well guess what? Sorry doesn't cut it!" Cherry said.
"Well why? Sorry cuts almost everything!" Maddie added.
"You think this is some kind of joke? Alright I think I should let you know! Mason and Madonna are gone!" Troy said to let the little genius understand the urgency of the matter.
"What are you saying?" Maddie asked.
"They were warped into a weird portal by some villain we fought!" Cherry explained. Maddison then ran towards the central high definition display computer to see if a solution could be found. Otherwise, Mason and Madonna could be gone forever.
