Chapter 01
“ I, Jackson Hemsworth and Alpha of the Ghost Shadows pack, reject you, Annalise Summers and Omega of the Ghost Shadows pack, as my mate and Luna.” Cynical laughter follows his words. *Annalise POV* This is my home, as they all say. Otherwise, what is the meaning of the word “pack”? Maybe it’s because that’s what they tell you when you grow up. That your pack is like your family. But what kind of family that doesn’t acknowledge other family members. A family that tells you should treat others like trash according to their status. Yes, we are all werewolves. With each werewolf holding a ranking in the pack. The Alpha, the leader, with his Luna. The Beta, who is second to the alpha and is responsible for everything when the alpha is not around. And that’s what I should have been, but unfortunately fate decides not. Every so often I wonder if is it that the moon goddess hates me, or I’m just not worthy of the power. My family is one of the respected in the pack. They have such a powerful bloodline. My father being the Beta of the pack. By law the title is to be passed down to the eldest child, an heir to say. But being a twin might have complicated things a bit. Since I’m the one who came first and my sister only minutes later, I should be the one to take the title. Well, not until they discovered my ranking in the pack. In the family of such powerful bloodline, my father the Beta, my mother being the Delta and both being the best warriors the pack has ever had, I had to become an omega. Shocked everyone to the point, most just believed that I’m cursed. And I could never have the Beta title, my family knew that or maybe thought so. Who wants such a weak Beta? They also realized they would have to explain these shocking news to the rest of the pack. And so, they discovered an easy way out, I guess. They chose to tell everyone that my sister was the one who came first and me last. That I’m the unwanted child, and I’m probably cursed. That I wasn't even supposed to be born and only my sister. To them and everyone else, that makes total sense. I don’t think the previous Alpha believed that nonsense, though, but he just went with the flow because he too wouldn’t want to give the title to a weak omega. It all just made my life a bit difficult. I never got everything I wanted like my sister did. They say I don’t deserve nice things, and only she does. My sister being the perfect and huge beautiful star giving light to the whole family while I the dark cloud that tries to block her perfection, and they would do absolutely anything to move me out of the way. Even when my sister does something wrong, it's always my fault. I literally got punished for my sister's stupidity. I had to learn to care less about and focused on the big dreams and goals I had set for myself. And one was to become a doctor someday. Well, that dream only remained a dream when I discovered that there was no way I could go to college and become a doctor like I wish to be. Almost flushed down a drain. Well, I discovered that the pack doesn’t want the Omegas to go to college, rather to remain servants. All what we are good at is cleaning, and we shouldn’t need anything more than that. Only other highly ranked pack members deserve the higher education if they wish. Only the other ranks are funded to go continue their studies as they wish. Even my family refused to take me to college, saying my only job is in the kitchen. Yet, my sister was allowed to go and pursue her dream. Fashion design and business studies, why I'm here, left to learn how to work a washing machine. And she only came back after her studies to claim the Beta title and even opening her gradually growing fashion industry. Just a year ago she was granted the title together and all I have to say is, I'm proud of her. I just sometimes hope she didn't hate me so much. And hope she knows I have nothing against her and her success. Well, luckily, I never gave up on my dream and I still believe that it's all possible and there's still time. After all, there's no age restriction in college. And luckily, I age slower than any average human. In my age, I still look like a seventeen-year-old. Well, that contributed to one of the reasons my sister hates me so much. She believes all the beauty I have is hers somehow. She has everything, and yet, she's concerned of how I look. Not only that, but she is one of the most beautiful girls in the pack, and yet she's concerned about me? I'm just an Omega who could barely defend herself against a mere human. She even actively tried to burn me once just so I would look ugly. She consciously lit the whole house in fire with me still inside and left me there to burn. She endeavored to kill me actually, and all out of jealousy. Luckily, I was never harmed by the fire, and no one understands how. I also don’t understand how, but all I know is that I got blamed for destroying the entire house with fire. Occasionally, I just wished I died in that fire, but I guess my time has not come yet. Even at school it was actively the same thing. It was a sin for me to perform better than the perfect Angel. She would always make it look like it's my fault her grades aren't good. But things are not so bad now since I no longer depend on my parents for support. And an opportunity for me to go to college has availed its self again. Only a few more months and I believe I no longer need this place. Well, unless things turn out way better than they seem to be. “What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in the kitchen cleaning or something," Elsie strides towards me as with disgust, eying me up and down. I could hardly focus on anything else with all the blinding bling in her dress. A pink strapless body-con embroidered perfectly with costly sequins. And seemingly expensive stole cape. I didn't know being a Beta paid so well or her fashion industry, perhaps. The jewelry, the shoes you could visibly tell that they reek of money. “I am too, invited just like you," I respond. She scoffs, swaying her hair over her shoulder. “ Who in their right mind would invite someone like you to such an important event?“ she sneers. Before I could answer. Her attention is immediately swept by someone emerging behind her. “Alpha Jackson?" She forges a smile as she turns around. “You look astonishing," she continues to complement as she tucks her fingers under his collar as to fix it. “Beta Summers. Good to see you," He responds, visibly uncomfortable with the interaction. “I was just talking to my little sis… Here, “ she jerks her head to give me a nasty glare. I couldn't help but roll my eyes. She loves acting so indispensable, and well, she is. “I guess I have to remind her, why she's not welcome here," she adds. Jackson clears his throat as he removes her hands, taking a step away. “Excuse me, Miss Summers,” he says, headed to my direction. “ You can call me Elsie, “ with a smile, she tells him for what is like the thousandth time. Jackson nodes before turning to me. With a little smile on the corner of his mouth. "Can I steal her for a moment," he then says as he sweeps me away from my sister's negativity.
