I was shaking when I sat down. I tried as much as possible not to allow anyone to notice, but Mason, who was by my side, did. He placed his hand on mine and rubbed it gently. I looked up to face him, and he smiled at me.
‘’Take a deep breath,’’ he muttered to me. I nodded in response and did as he had told me. I closed my eyes and removed my stepmother's face from my head, and then I opened my eyes and looked forward, forgetting that I had ever seen her.
‘’Thank you,’’ I muttered to Mason, and he nodded, still holding my hand.
