Chapter 54“I'm sorry for the interruption.” Sara sat again. She needed to get this over quickly before Emma suspected anything. “You've had a rough life, Emma, waiting for Rocky.”
“It's been hard, not knowing.” She kept sniffling and had a pile of used tissues stacked on the tabletop.
“I understand you've done some work with kids and young people.” Emma tensed, barely discernible but Sara saw it in her eyes. “You've lived your life, Emma, and I'm glad you tried to make a life for yourself. I understand you lost a baby, too, and I'm sorry for that.” Sara was referring to Emma's self-abortion, but Emma couldn't know that Sara knew about her. “I've had my own three miscarriages.” She only told of her own experiences to elicit sympathy from Emma and deepen the connection.
“Glad I lost it.”
