prologue (The witch of Caultrid)
"Burn the witch! Burn the witch, " the villagers screamed at the very top of their lungs as they chased after a young girl who had barely reached the age of sixteen
The girl had a fair skin complexion, an oval face shape and rosy lips.
Her eyebrows were arched and beautiful and her eyes were a chestnut brown colour just like her long hair which reached the small of her back and went back and forth, side to side as she ran for her life with everything within her.
Her slender figure being chased by the mob was a sorry sight to behold, with their pitchforks, their torches and swords, their stakes and their spears.
But even more incredible than the sight was the fact that she knew all of them just as much as all of them knew her, every single one of them.
It was only a couple of days ago not more than a week that she was still the sweet beloved Rose Tanner, daughter of the famous Bard Elias Tanner and the dressmaker named Aurora.
She still wasn't entirely sure where exactly it all went wrong, whether it was because of all she had learned in that short time or if it was because of the books she had read in that strange library or the experiments she performed with the knowledge she had gained.
Her tears fell from her eyes like pearls as she screamed out in fear and pain, her clothes were torn and both her legs were injured.
Her back had been struck by three arrows already and she'd almost reached her breaking point but kept on running as fast as her weary body could carry her back to her home.
"Mama! Papa! " she screamed out with everything within her as soon as she was near to their house, and her mother who screamed out in horror at the sight of what had become of her dropped what she was busy with and ran to meet her, attempting to tend to her wounds.
But on seeing the mob she decided to just stand in front of her instead.
"Get behind me, " she said to Rose and wiped the tears that had already escaped from her eyes, then put on a solemn expression and stared down at the mob face to face.
"That child is a witch! " one of the council members who led the mob shouted at her, his eyes both had claw marks and his voice sounded raspy, "she must be put to death. "
"No she mustn't, she is not a witch she's a child...! " Aurora shouted back in anger and disappointment, she didn't know their reason for calling her a witch but she didn't care at all, Rose was a child, she was her child.
"It doesn't matter that she's a child, a witch is a witch and you know what they say, 'suffer not the witch to live', " another member of the mob answered back before she could finish speaking.
"Shut your bloody mouth Richard, " Aurora said with tears in her eyes and looked straight at the man named Richard who had spoken. "You have known her since the day I gave birth to her, you watched her grow up, all of you did! She is my daughter for the sake of the gods! "
"I know, and I'm sorry but she has to die, " Richard answered solemnly and stole a glance at Rose who was hiding behind Aurora.
"No, my daughter is not going to die, not today and she is not a witch, " Aurora answered with a tone of voice filled with strong emotion as though she were prepared to fight the lot of them if she had to do so, she only wished that Elias would come so she didn't have to do it alone.
"I saw it with my own eyes Aurora, I saw her speak to the elements and control them at will, I saw her wield fire and cause items to levitate in the air," Richard answered, "as much as I myself hate to admit it, she is a witch. "
"No I'm not...he's lying, I don't know why he's lying I didn't do anything wrong, it wasn't magic at all it was science, " Rose replied with tears flooding down from her eyes as she continued to hide behind her mother who remained calm and staid despite being even more afraid than her daughter.
"No we have scientists, we know of science and that was not it, what you were doing was black magic and for it you should be burned at the stake, " a third person from the mob said and the rest of them agreed strongly.
"You saw her wield fire and yet you believe fire is the best way to kill her, how smart... and yet you claim to know science, " Aurora mocked and continued. "And no, my daughter my sweet angel Rose is not a witch; however even if she were I would never in a million millenniums allow anyone of you lot to lay even a finger on her.
" That would be over my dead body, so if you want to kill her then you would have to kill me first, " Aurora answered boldly and caused a great silence to envelope the entire mob as they were overcome with mixed emotions.
In the silence, she turned to face her daughter slightly and said loud enough for her alone to hear, "run, run as far away as you can as fast as you can, and don't ever stop until you're sure that they can never find you, don't look back and don't think about anything else just run. "
Rose was about to speak but her mother stopped her and said solemnly and seriously with a poignant expression on her face, "now! " her eyes filled with tears and her hands shaking as every ounce of breath in her body threatened to run away with the girl and every inch of her body itching to hug her.
She knew that there was no way she could change this people's mind and that no matter what she said they would seek to kill her daughter even if they had to kill her first so the only thing she could do was buy time and hope that she would be safe and that Elias would find her in time.
Rose who didn't completely understand what her mother was asking her to do began to run away as fast as her legs could carry her and did not stop, not even when she heard her mother's screams until she reached the deepest part of the woods.
The part where nobody in Caultrid ever threaded, and the part rumored to be swarming with monsters especially at that time of the night.
She had become incredibly exhausted and had lost a lot of blood.
By her self she began to get rid of the arrows that had struck her back and did so in great pain, but had only removed two of them when she felt herself about to collapse.
She managed to drag herself to a large building into the middle of the woods that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, one that looked both real and illusory.
She touched the door and immediately collapsed to the floor... Dead.

"Tanner... Rose Tanner, wake up, " a voice said and began to shake her.
"Alright alright I'm awake, " Rose replied and looked up at the familiar face of Denzel in front of her. "What is it? "
"What is it? Did you already forget that today is presentation day, how long were you asleep? " Denzel asked.
"What? " Rose asked in a daze, "is it today? Crap"
"Hurry up, it's your turn and the professor along with the rest of the class is waiting impatiently," Denzel replied and rushed out.
Rose stood up hurriedly and held her head as she felt a strange headache, and a strange feeling in her gut.
She looked up at the bright sky outside the window, somehow she felt like she was being watched, by something or by someone beyond the cosmos.
