1173 Words
"Am late." Emma announced in a panic as she hurried to the kitchen where Rachel was busy plating her breakfast. That's what you get for sleeping late. Rachel said to her daughter who was now standing over her shoulders. I slept early! Emma corrected. I know you came home late last night. You didn't tell me you made friends, are we keeping secrets now? Rachel spoon fed her some pasta. Hmmm...Emma hummed. This is delicious mom, you are getting better at cooking. Don't avoid the question. Rachel said as she fed her the second time. I still make it better though..Emma said avoiding the subject. I think this pasta is a little bit too flavorful, you know, "tomato basil pasta" ( A hearty vegan pasta with a rich garlicky tomato sauce built from scratch ) should just have the right quantity of everything, so the ..... Rachel exhaled. She wasn't an aspiring chef and she didn't know why her daughter was telling her all this. She was definitely keeping something from her, or was she.. Are you seeing someone.. Emma almost choked on her saliva. Why would you think of that? She asked. You definitely are hiding something. You came home late last night and also slept late, that means you were either texting someone or masterbating, so which is it. Oh..mom. How could you even think of such a thing. She paused then continued, I was texting someone. Emma's face lit up with a smile. It must be someone special since you were able to spend the whole afternoon at his place and also text him at the dead of night. Rachel said. She already thinks it's a he without even asking me. Emma thought. Yes.. it's someone special. Emma said calmly. A boyfriend! Rachel said. Yeah! Emma nodded. Is he white ? Rachel asked. Mom... Come on I need to know! Why? Emma asked. No reason really but I want to meet him and fast. Rachel said. Eww mom, we just started dating, don't spoil this for me. Now that someone actually likes me. Emma said and dashed out the house she didn't like the way the conversation was going. Rachel sighed and fed herself some pasta. She was worried about her daughter, this was the first time she was being this close to someone. Especially the opposite s*x, she didn't want her daughter to end up like herself. """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" Evelyn was at the front desk of "Jam'z Co private hospital. A nurse had her fill out a form where she had to write down when her last period came, symptoms, breast tenderness and other personal details. Evelyn haven't had a missed period nor did she have any symptoms of any sort, she was perfectly fine. The nurse read through her form and said, you sure do think you are pregnant right! Yes. Why will I be here if I didn't think am pregnant. Evelyn said sarcastically. You wrote in your form description you felt pregnancy symptom starting from yesterday. The nurse said. It's not like that though. Evelyn paused then continued, I had unprotected s*x yesterday and stuff went...hmmm..will I say everything, am here for a pregnancy test. So, because of the pleasure you experienced yesterday you want to burden my day.... What's the meaning of this! Evelyn was getting angry now. What kind of nurse was this, Evelyn thought. She was regretting coming to the hospital, but the fact that it was close to her home and it wasn't all that busy onlike bigger and government hospitals she opted for it. Sorry ma...I didn't mean to offend you. The nurse apologized to Evelyn who was busy beckoning on another nurse to attend to her. What's the problem? A blonde headed nurse asked, she was more advanced in age than the nurse attending to Evelyn. Please can I get my test done, I have other things to do. Evelyn said to the blonde nurse who had collected her file from the previous nurse. It says here that you are married. The blonde nurse said pointing at the document in her hand. Yes I am! Any problem. Evelyn added. No! I would prescribe a urine test, a cup will be provided shortly so you can provide a urine sample. The nurse said. Evelyn scoffed. Do you think am stupid? No ma..I just told you the easiest way out of this.... Do you think I came all the way from the comfort of my home to run a common urine test. I could have just bought a pregnancy strip and tested it for myself. Evelyn said angrily. I didn't mean it like that, I just thought you didn't want to do it yourself. The nurse said. Evelyn sighed. You nurses are sounding very unprofessional right now. That thing went inside of me, don't you get it. I want to know where I stand so I can determine how to get rid of it. Evelyn lamented. When was your ovulation? The nurse asked. I want to see a doctor right this minute! Evelyn shot at her. We can handle this, no need to burden a doctor. A urine test can be very accurate when it is done by a professional because it not only test's your urine but also, "HCG" (human chorionic gonadotropin ) a hormone the body produces when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. The nurse explained. Evelyn was now fuming with anger. To her the nurse was spouting nonsense, was she a medical aspirant or what, she was a f*****g tailor and her business wasn't waiting for no one. The nurse seeing the expression on Evelyn's face quickly apologized but Evelyn didn't reply her or show any sign that she acknowledged her apology, instead her eyes were about to bore a hole into the nurses face. You can wait in the waiting room, you will be notified when the doctor is free. The nurse said and Evelyn walked away towards the waiting room but not after she gave the nurse a long hiss and a roll of her eyes. The blonde nurse gave a sigh of relief. The nurse who had first attended to Evelyn said ( she was there the whole time her colleague battled with the annoying patient ), I think she's truly pregnant. Why do you say so? The blonde nurse asked. Pregnant women have a tendency for anger and she just displayed it right here. The nurse said. What bothers me most is the fact that she is married. She didn't seem too happy for someone that wants to keep a pregnancy. The blonde nurse said and sighed. Didn't you hear when she said she wasn't keeping it, I don't think the baby is for the husband. All those married women that can't keep their legs together. The nurse said. We don't know that yet, she may not be pregnant. The blonde nurse said. She should have just done the test at home. What's the use of pregnancy test strips! The nurse said and hissed.
