What are you staring at! Evelyn said blushing, her cheeks tomato red.
Nothing. Tom chuckled. You look good. He complimented her.
Evelyn was now used to being called unstylish, rough and unattractive. But this stranger just said she was good looking, something she hadn't heard in a long time.
You think so. She muttered.
Yes, did someone say otherwise? He asked.
Not really. It just took me by surprise, my husband always says am unattractive, unstylish, unlike other girls and I was already getting used to seeing myself like that. She looked into his eyes and muttered; thank you.
You wanna talk about it. He said trying to console her. What else could he offer a woman who made him smile when he was in his darkest moments. If she wasn't married he would have probably hooked up with her or something like that but he didn't think she would have agreed to hook up with a HIV patient.
When we dated, he was kind and loving. He saw me as I was, a tailor who was trying to create a career for herself. I never thought it would take this long before I graduated from being a tailor to a fashion designer. Evelyn exhaled.
Did he stop you from pursuing your career?
No..he didn't. He was very supportive but ever since we got married things changed. Is as if the spark that lit us together is flickering. She heaved.
I don't know how two people come to live together and become faithful to one another, I just can't do that. f*****g only one woman, I would probably get tired and want to explore more women! Tom bluttered out.
So.....
I think your husband wants to explore. He said.
What!...no... Marcus is not like that, he's a good man, and his faithful. She defended.
You sure do trust him. He said.
Yes, he came all the way from work three hours after he left to be with me so he wouldn't cheat. She said.
Wow! That's amazing, but I don't think his faithful enough! He said.
Why.....
You said he doesn't treat you the way he did when you both were dating. He left work just to come back to you for s*x, that just doesn't make sense. He explained.
What are you insinuating? She couldn't believe she was asking for advice from a man she just met, but he was a man too, he would know more on what goes on in the mind of his fellow gender.
He should have brought flowers or maybe a gift or something when he came back. A man that loves you wouldn't call you unstylish and unattractive. What then attracted him to you. To me, I think he regrets marrying you or maybe he thinks he rushed into marrying you without knowing if you are what he wants in a woman. He concluded.
We dated for two years and our marriage is only a few months old. She looked at him...I think you are right, she said sadly.
Hey! Don't take what I said to heart, am just fantasizing on what might be the possible reason. Not that I know him personally. He said.
That's why am gonna put him to test, she said.
How! He asked.
Mrs. Dombell. A nurse called out as she walked closer to them only to stop a few inches from where they sat.
Evelyn looked in her direction and answered; yes.
You can see the doctor now. She said and walked away not waiting to hear what ever she wanted to say. Evelyn found this rude but didn't mind, it was the rude nurse that had first attended to her when she came to the hospital.
Looks like our little chat is ending. I would have loved to keep in touch. You are the first person to know about my illness except for the doctor actually that didn't stigmatize me, that's a good first experience for me.
You can have my contact. Evelyn said standing up.
He gave his phone to her, she typed in her number and handed the phone back to him.
I will call you. He said.
I will be expecting your call. She added before walking away towards an entrance.
Now alone Tom couldn't stop smiling. She wasn't beautiful but neither ugly. Not his type of woman at all, and he didn't do married women also but this woman was different. She just made him forget all his worries, he would like to continue the conversation, he badly wanted to know how she was planning to test her husband. Am freaking HIV positive, I shouldn't be fantasizing about a woman now, at least not the one I disclosed it to. He said to himself and sighed.
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Evelyn knocked ones and helped herself into the office. A man sat not too far from the entrance, a desk before him, on the desk where some paperwork and files. He was writing something down on a sheet of plane paper.
She helped herself to a chair which was directly opposite him, the desk in-between them. The office was decorated with all sorts of medical stuffs, which displayed that this was a doctor's office. Evelyn didn't bother to look around or notice the painting of the human skeleton on the wall behind her.
The doctor raised his head up to look at her and Evelyn frozen in place.
Different thought's ran through her head. What was going on, was she dreaming or was the events of today all a dream. For goodness sake Tom was sitting before her in a doctor's robe. Or was the man she met today a ghost, she didn't believe in ghosts but what other way was she going to explain this to herself. Let it not be she had been played, and that this wasn't a real hospital at all. Because looking from the way those nurses behaved towards her, the disrespect and the poor customer service. But this private hospital had been here even before she moved into the area, people had come to get treated here and no weird rumor had been heard. Let it not be that a HIV positive man was the doctor here. Evelyn was actually screaming within her.
Are you okay Miss. Tom said and she screamed. The voice, tone everything was exactly the same.
