Evelyn found her way to the waiting room. She could have been the only one present except for a pale looking man with brown hair. He sat on one of the waiting chair's, she sat beside him. With him was a piece of paper which dangled from his right hand that was on his lap. He had on a look of dejection.
Evelyn studied him with her eyes. He didn't even realize her presence. He was good looking with broad shoulders and black eyes. And for a second Evelyn thought he was about to cry.
She spoke to him with utmost calmest and a hint of care.
Are you alright?
No response, she repeated herself before he raised his head and looked in her direction. His eyes red and face pale as if blood had been drawn from it.
Evelyn was scared at first but calmed herself down for he wasn't going to eat her at least not in broad day light.
"Do you know me"! He said, the words came out arrogantly.
Evelyn almost shoked on her saliva. This man was quite a strange person to run into in a hospital. She wished she had minded her business but there was no turning back.
"Do I have to know you to talk to you"! She fired at him. Inside of her, she was scared but she wasn't going to allow that override what ever she wanted to say to this arrogant stranger.
The expression on his face changed to that of surprise. Who was this woman and what business does she have with me. He thought.
Are you okay! He asked her.
Yes I am but I don't think you are. She replied him.
He scoffed. Mind your f*****g business lady. And stop being a f****d up b***h! He shot at her.
Evelyn swallowed. Mind the way you talk to me. Am married and my husband is a lawyer, mind your tone young man. She said her voice a bit shaky.
He looked at her, to him she was one annoying b***h.
Then mind your f*****g business. He shot at her.
Can't you speak without cursing and being a d**k! She said before realizing she just cursed too.
She saw it,the smile that almost creep up the corner of his lips.
You know you will look very handsome when you smile. She complemented him.
He looked away from her as if hiding his face from her before saying; with the kind of problem I have now, I don't have the right to be happy or even smile.
I know that already. Meeting you in the hospital already says it all. I have a problem too, that's why am here. Evelyn said.
You think your problem is bigger than mine. He was now more calmer and the expression on his face was that of relief as if someone had taken a heavy weight off him. Evelyn was happy that she had spoken to him.
If your's isn't "AID'S", I don't think is a problem that can't be solved. She said smiling.
It is! He said making the smile that had found itself on her face erase.
Evelyn opened her mouth to say something but no words came out. She didn't know what to do or how to feel. Was she supposed to comfort him, distance herself right now but her body refused to move, she just sat there transfixed, staring into his dark eyes.
He sighed. I know right, he began....I don't know why am saying this to a complete stranger but. I just got tested for HIV and it came out positive. This shouldn't be happening to me right now. Tears where now running down his face from his eye lids. Am a player, no I was a player. I couldn't stay with one girl, I f****d around protected and unprotected but I never for one day got any disease.
He paused then continued. Then for f***s sake I thought I fell in love and decided to settle down....but....she gave me this...fu..cked up illness from all the illnesses she should have picked out of. She picked HIV, ....am gonna f*****g kill her for f*****g up with my life like this.
He broke down in tears. Evelyn didn't say anything neither did she move from her sit to comfort him. But instead, she let him weep, gave him her listening ear.
I should have just continued being a f**k boy. He said while calming himself down. Thank goodness they were the only one's present.
I shouldn't have turned a new leaf. He was calm now. I loved her, I did love her. How could she do this to me. I regret the day I stopped being a playboy for the sake of love and decency. Sorry...I shouldn't be bothering a stranger with my problems. He apologized to her.
Evelyn...he looked at her. Am Evelyn..she repeated, what about you?
Tom!
Now we are no longer stranger's. She smiled at him. Listen...she began...I don't know what to say neither have I ever been with someone in your predicament before but, you did the right thing when you stopped being a playboy....what am I even saying... she sighed loudly. I mean...yo...u, s**t.
Tom couldn't hold in his laughter. He started laughing. Evelyn was happy she was able to make him laugh.
You really do not know how to console someone Evelyn. He said.
Something inside her skipped when he mentioned her name, the way he said it "Evelyn", sweetly and calm as if pampering the words in his mouth. Her face lit up with joy as she could also feel the hotness in her cheeks. She felt ashamed when she realized she was blushing for a "HIV ex-playboy".
Thank you for talking to me even when I was being an ass earlier. He said.
It's nothing. She said to him.
Am not usually like this, you know all grumpy and arrogant. In a different circumstances, I can be really sweet. He said and Evelyn laughed.
He chuckled slightly and took a good look at the woman beside him. She wasn't all that Pretty, she was on a long sleeve mini dress, apparently black in color and the tip of her blonde short hair was neatly touching her shoulders.
