Chapter 8: The Refusal

1184 Words
After the pictures were being taken, I was looking around when I was carrying a glass of champagne as well. I did not impose on the conversation that Harriet was having with his family. I was not a real date after all. I was looking around before I was stumbling upon a room that was filled something with unimaginable that I was searching for. I was blinking a few times before I was taking my steps toward it. It was the Crown Jewel of Sicily. I was looking around for people to come and show up and forbid me from coming closer but no one came and stopped me. I was smiling before I heard something behind me. I turned around to look at it was Harriet. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” He asked me as he stood beside me before I was looking at him and then turned again to see the Crown Jewel of Sicily. “Yes, they are,” I said as I was sipping on the wine. I don’t want to give something away as I can see that Harriet was smirking like a devil. And he was handsome doing that. “You see, I have been waiting for someone to come into this house and get this Crown Jewel of Sicily. Especially that masked thief,” he said as he was looking at me. I turned to look at him, trying to look shocked at the information. “That masked thief?” I asked Harriet as he was nodding at me. I turned to look at the jewel again before I was turning to look at Harriet. I think I am nailing this act right now. “What do you mean?” I asked him as I was trying to get information on this. I think tonight will be my lucky day after all to get the REAL Crown Jewel of Sicily. And it has been hiding here all along. How lucky I was! I was sipping on the champagne before Harriet chuckled. I was waiting for him to go over the details but he simply shrugged and turned to look at me. “Enough of that depressing matter. It is late. We should get going, unless you wanted to stay, fiancée?” He asked me as I was choking on my champagne. Harriet smirked before I was looking at him like he has lost his mind. I glared at him. “Well, I think I have my answer then,” he said before he was coming closer to me and he was whispering into my left ear. “My invitation will always be valid to you, Jenny,” he said before he was taking my hand and pulled me out of the room. I was looking at the Crown Jewel of Sicily for the last time before I was walking out of the room that might be the place that will change my life forever. I was looking at Harriet before we were greeting his family. His other brothers were gone and we were the last one to leave. I thanked Zeus and his bride for having me before Lena was hugging me one last time. “One piece of advice, do not hesitate it when you know you have feelings for him too,” she whispered to me before she was smiling at me. I was blinking as I don’t understand what she was referring to but I think it was Harriet. Harriet has been quiet for the whole time when he was opening the door for me and I was sliding inside the car. I turned to look at the castle before I was making the plan as we were leaving the courtyard. Tonight will be the night that REAL Crown Jewel of Sicily will be mine. I was looking outside the window as the silent drive was unbearable. I was singing to the music that was playing on the radio before I felt the warmth that was on my knee. I turned to look at it and it was Harriet’s hand that was on my knee. I was turning to look into his face as we were stopping at the sidewalk and in front of my house. The thing is, how do Harriet know where I lived? He turned off the engine and we were looking into each other’s eyes before Harriet pulled his hand from my knee. Instantly, I missed the warmth that I wanted to feel all over my body. Wait, what was happening to me?! I was smiling before I was looking at my hands as someone was pulling it and kissed the back of my hands. I was looking into Harriet’s electric orbs before my breaths were hitched inside my throat. “It seems that I cannot let you go home for the night. Come back with me,” he said and I was desperate enough to tell yes. But I don’t because I have work to do. I shook my head as I was looking at him. “You know I can’t. We have work tomorrow,” I said as I was staring into his eyes. It was magnificent and how can I be with this man when I was lying myself to him. I am not the woman that he thought I was. I smiled weakly before I was caressing his cheeks with my hands and I pulled him closer to kiss him. He claimed my mouth just like he did before. He owned it and he was licking my lower lips as if he has any rights to do it. I was moaning his name as I was gripping his shoulders and pulled him closer. Harriet wanted to take this attraction between us to another level before I was breaking the kiss and I was licking my lips. It tasted of mint. I loved it and I wanted more. I needed it. I was opening my eyes as I looked into Harriet’s heated gaze on my face before I was smiling at him. “Thank you for the ride and the reception was great. I hope your brother and sister in law will be happy till the end,” “And what about us?” He asked me as I was looking at him. I smiled before I shook my head. “We both know we just pretend and I know it will end tomorrow. Good night, Harriet. Drive safe,” I said before I was sliding out of the car and ran to the front door before unlocking it and went inside before closing it again and locked it. I was leaning against the door as I was sliding down to the floor before I felt tears were running down my cheeks as I was sobbing quietly. Why do I have to fall in love with my boss? I was wiping the tears before I was looking at the time. It was almost midnight and I know the way to the imposing castle that belonged to Caprioli. I was smiling before I felt my kleptomaniac was coming at me and kicking the adrenaline rush into my veins. I turned to look at my wardrobe before I was pushing my day clothes aside and I was looking at my side job clothes. It’s time to play my game.
