Chapter 1
When Kate felt a prickling sensation, it was once again the back of her neck. On the other hand, this time it was tingling with the sensation of fire. Remember to be aware of it. It was an emotion that she hadn't felt in a very long time, and she was experiencing it now.
As she looked up, she dismissed the strange sensation that she was experiencing and was relieved to see that people were moving away from the grave while conversing in a voice that was low. This has been concluded.
It was a movement in the distance that caught her attention, and shortly after that, she came across the towering form of a man who was broad and powerful, and he was moving away in the direction of the autos. He was dressed in what seemed to be a uniform as well as a headpiece at the same time. Only one of the drivers is now in charge.
Her attention was drawn to him, however, because of the way he moved with a loose-limbed agility that attracted her attention. The aspects of his physique that caught her attention were his height and the broadness of his shoulders.
The extent of her notice was not sufficient. He brought it to her attention that... No, she experienced a short spell of vertigo as a result of his actions. As soon as she realised what was going on, she fully dispelled the idea. Without certainty, in no way was that him.
Kate's attention was diverted away from the stranger by snippets of surrounding whispered discussion, and despite her best efforts to block it out, she was unable to ignore some phrases altogether.
Is it correct to say that? Does she get nothing?'
"I should have never given in to her marriage..."
The only reason she was attempting to salvage her image was because she had come so close to marrying one of the most infamous playboys in the world...
Despite the fact that Kate had gotten skilled at ignoring sarcastic remarks over the course of the last two years, that final statement brought up sad memories since it was so near to her heart. On the contrary, she couldn't be more pleased that she had been left without a single penny of Patrick's riches, contrary to what these individuals seemed to think.
In a million years, she would never have married him if she hadn't been put in a position that was hard for her to handle. Horrible treachery committed by her uncle. Despite this, she was not such a monstrous person that she was incapable of experiencing any feelings of sorrow at Patrick's passing. She felt a sense of emptiness, however. Tired out. This is a result of association.
Although she did experience sadness, it was for a different reason. Something that had been taken away from her before it had ever had the opportunity to live and breathe was no longer in her possession. It's someone.
Someone whom she had loved more than she had ever imagined it was possible to love another human being. She was the source of his suffering and the torment he endured. He was on the verge of passing away. In order to rescue him from experiencing more suffering and maybe even more, she had no alternative but to do what she needed to do.
Kate eventually turned her back on the cemetery and began walking in the direction of the area where there were just a handful of automobiles left. She did this by swallowing down the tightness that was in her throat. She was not responsible for any of these expenses. She was unable to bear the cost.
Immediately after she had returned to the private apartment, she informed her husband that there would be staff members waiting with her luggage to accompany her as she left the grounds. Her spouse had indicated that he intended to keep up appearances right up to the gravesite. However, at this point, all bets are off. It was only her by herself.
Her stomach was churning with terror, but she was able to control it. When it was necessary, she would take care of the matter of what to do and where to go.
That's going to be in about a half an hour, Kate!
She paid no attention to an inner voice.
At that moment, one of the funeral directors was physically there at the rear door of her vehicle, holding it open. She was able to make out the silhouette of the driver sitting in the front seat.
One more time, she had that tingling sensation of familiarity; but, she reassured herself that she was being stupid and superstitious.
Due to the fact that she had finally been liberated from the load that had been placed upon her, she was only thinking about him at this moment. It was impossible for her to let her mind wander to that place.
While she was sitting in the rear of the expensive automobile, she mumbled her gratitude to the driver. For a considerable amount of time, she hadn't indulged in any kind of indulgence before. Of course, she didn't care. After the horrific catastrophe that took the lives of her parents and her elder brother, she had learned the hard way that nothing external mattered after you had lost the ones you loved the most. This was a lesson that she had learned a long time ago.
On the other hand, it was crystal evident that the lesson had not been sufficient to prevent her from falling in love with—
When the automobile began going, Kate was relieved to have something to distract her.
I am not considering him at this moment.
Without regard to the fact that she had been reminded of him by a complete stranger.
However, she was unable to contain her curiosity, so she peeked at the tiny portion of the driver's face that she could see in the rear view mirror.
Although it was partially concealed by sunglasses in the form of aviators, it was possible to make out a strong aquiline nose and a hard upper lip. An angular and pronounced jaw.
Her pulse began to beat faster, despite the fact that she was aware that it was impossible for that to be the case.
At that same time, he seemed to be aware of her attention from behind, and she saw his arm move before the privacy window was raised. Putting an end to her.
For some reason, Kate had the impression that he had raised the window as a kind of reprimand. This is absurd. Simply put, he was a driver! It was likely that he had believed that she wanted some solitude... On the other hand, the unsettling niggle continued to stick around.
The situation became much more difficult when she noticed that, although they were moving in the proper direction, which was back to the Kensington flat that she and her husband had moved into together, they were not getting any closer.
They made a sharp turn off the main high street and into another neighboring street that was lined with towering homes that were reserved for a select few.
There had been a period of two years during which Kate had gone along this street practically every day, and she had cherished every moment that she had been free from the oppressively confined flat that she shared with her husband. But she did not live on that street.
